Low-cost and worked. Very good service from Newegg. Cables/connectors are flimsy. Windows XP recognized it, but didn't like me employing it. (Explorer crashed randomly and usually when plugged in.) It will operate, but I almost certainly don't anticipate it to final extended.

Comment:
The adapter itself operates fine. I attempted it on two-1ǘ" and three-1ǘ" HDDs, each IDE and SATA, also tried it on a CD-ROM.It worked well on all units, but it was a tiny slow to recognize some older IDE HDDs. It could be that the old drives are not in great shape. Otherwise, speed is good, and I had no trouble writing files to the drive although reading and playing movies at the very same time from the same drive. As others have noted, the energy provide is not significantly good. Possessing been warned by other user evaluations, I measured the output voltage ahead of attaching to a drive. 5V was at five.28v, and 12V read 12.7V. Also high for comfort - but I connected an old drive (with problems) just to see what a load would do. The voltage dropped a tiny, to 5.22V and 12.62V - nonetheless as well higher! Additionally, an O-scope showed about 1V line rate ripple pulses in the output voltage. This is not a supply to use if you care about your difficult drive or it's data integrity. OK, I like to tinker, so I took the supply apart (carefully). The line voltage ripple was due to a as well little input filter cap, 22uF @ 400V. I replaced that with a 68uf 400V cap (yes, there is space). For good measure, I replaced the 680uF and 470uF output caps with low ESR, 105C 1500uF and 1000uF units. The voltage regulation is performed with a "LM431" IC. I adjusted the reference feedback shunt resistor from 4.7k to 4.87k. A couple of of the solder joints were poor, so I touched those up, also. Results: 5.01 volts and 12.05 volts at 𞸤 mA load, and fairly strong with load and line alterations. No line ripple above 95 VAC in, and switching noise is mV p-p. Runs quite cool.It will deliver 5V @ 2A and 12V @ 2A, but not at the similar time (nearly, although). This provide now has the energy and accuracy to run any HDD I have, and I no longer fear it will do harm.

performs fantastic with my 2.five" sata notebook hdd. At very first Vista did not recognize the device and failed to initialize correctly. But immediately after unplugging the usb cable then plugging it back in every thing was fine. I did not attempt this with any PATA drives so I can not supply any feed back on that.I feel the device performs great but, as with other devices that are simular, one thing additional could be carried out to hold the HDD. It seems like it would be straightforward to have a dangling cord drag the HDD off the desk or top of laptop and smash onto the floor. I gave it four eggs simply because it failed to initially work in Vista. Also the mess of cords needed to get it to work.

Great cost for the comfort. Item shipped had difficulties and would cutout the connection to the drive randomly. Ended up undertaking an RMA and paying for shipping. You get what you spend for.

I've attempted a 3.5" 250GB SATA drive, a three.5" IDE, a 2.5" IDE, and an IDE CD on win2K and they all worked devoid of a driver. Power cord plugs into the brick a little loose. I believe it's the energy cord, mine look to fit far better. I haven't attempted a two.5" sata drives but, but if it functions for a three.five" sata, it should work for 2.five" sata (they have the very same interface).

Drivers loaded correct up on XP Pro for adapter when plugged into USB port Could hear the heads of recognized excellent 2.five" drive trashing around. USB port isn't enough to drive the unit and PS is worthless for 2.five" drives. Bought for 2.five" drives and it doesn't work - tried on 3 diverse machines Come across an adapter that has energy provide that connects to adapter for two.5" drivesI'd give this a zero but have to give it one particular egg to enter my comments

- One particular size fits all for numerous HDD kinds- No drivers needed for Win98SE and up- Allows you to wipe clean your old HDD and donate/toss/reuse it following you've had a possibility to create or update your new method and have long because removed your old HDD.- Forgot to transfer a file? no challenge just use this device to speedily double check the HDD for that missing or forgotten file prior to wiping it clean. - Wants a energy switch as an alternative of relying on you pulling the energy plug to energy it down. I have 3 systems I'm currently building and am switching from IDE to SATAII type drives with a clean OS set up.Rather than have the old IDE cable and Drives installed in my new Computer I bought this to enable me to do file transfers then wipe the drives clean for other uses. It beats getting to swap the drive in and out of the tower or a HDD enclosure. To steer clear of frying your HDD plug points in following order. It will keep away from a spark at the HDD power connector therefore possibly damaging the drive or you losing data.1) plug the energy from the device into the Drive2) then plug the device into the wall. Capacitors in the device's powersupply will preserve the jolt of energy from slamming into the HDD drive. That jolt could harm the drive and/or lead to information loss.three) Plug in the USB plug from the device into the Pc USB port. All set, the Computer will discover the drive and install it as a USB Mass Storage Device. When you're carried out, unplug from the USB port, then the wall, then the drive.

Performs. Tested with desktop and laptop IDE and sata drives. Performs fine with optical drives as nicely. Energy supply isn't Wonderful but it's been fine for me so far. The drive connection from the energy provide is missing one particular of the grounding pins (intentionally?) but this does not effect performance simply because the energy provide and drives use a common ground. Power provide gets hot beneath heavy use. As yet another reviewer stated: check your drives energy needs. The psu packaged with this is rated for 2A on each and every output. PSU is not essential for laptop IDE drives. This is an wonderful remedy for these of us who are jumping onto the netbook bandwagon but don't want to buy pre-made external optical drives. Find an old 1 laying around, hook it up to this and boot your netbook. This system worked good with my Acer aspire a single. Also tends to make a great backup/recovery device. Breathes life into those old laptop IDE tricky drives by producing them portable.

Little, easy, affordable, does what it purports to do... if you're lucky enough to get a very good one particular. Power provide died at about 4th use. I suspect this little device may possibly have fried the last disk I was attempting to test, but I can't prove it. It did function flawlessly with IDE/PATA disks attached to both a Windows box and a Mac a handful of occasions. Then the power provide popped and smoked. You can't beat the cost, but you get what you pay for. I opened the dead power supply and spotted that the three.15A 250V fuse at the plug had burned, so I replaced it. The subsequent time I plugged it in it burned the transistor behind the fuse, and I gave up. The soldering job on the DC converter was just horrible. I'll attempt a unique brand at 3x the price subsequent.

Compatible with older IDE Ɠ.five" and 2.five") as effectively as newer SATA. Decent cable length. None. A number of instances I've used this to repair laptop tough drives for men and women. When something takes place with the OS and it won't boot, I've taken it out and connected it to my main Pc and retrieved all their files that would've been deleted had they just re-installed. Then just format the drive and re-install. Worked like a charm each time.

Connect external SATA and PATA drives at the same time if you need to have via USB. Energy supply died on me--snap, crackle, pop. Not good. Then the drive connected to it died. Coincidence?

Worked exactly as I hoped. I had two "dead" drives that I suspected were either undesirable enclosures or undesirable power supplies. In both cases the drives had been fine and I employed this device to back every single up to a new RAID box. IDE can truly be connected to the wrong pins if you're not careful. As others have written I'm suspect of the top quality, but don't intend on making this a lengthy-term solution anyway. Wonderful for an emergency or to recover old information from drives you've "stored". Modular design signifies that even if power provide fails you can simply swap any other 12v provide.

Lets you plug in internal drives in to a USB port! The usb to sata worked nicely. Energy Provide Unit did not work... as anticipated... I expected that the PSU would not perform when I bought the unit, just because I read the comments of other men and women that have purchased this unit ahead of me... If your cool with that then obtain it... I necessary it to be inexpensive.. Enjoy..

Its low-cost. Its cheap. You get what you spend for. I purchased this to transfer some files off of an internal tough drive that I pulled out of one particular of my old desktops that no longer worked. Ideally I would have liked to just put the difficult drive back into a personal computer and network every thing over. That wasn't an choice nonetheless, so I bought this. Its quite easy to use, it just didn't perform. The energy provide would energy up the hard drive, but mulitple computers would not recognize the usb connection. It wasn't a driver concern either, device manager did not even recognize anything had even been pluged in. I supspect a undesirable usb cable. Its a affordable chinese item, and Im prepared to bet thier quality control rate is about 50%. So If your willing to roll the dice with 13 bucks, it may possibly function out ok for you. Im stuck with this garbage, its not even worth my time to send it back, haha.

cheap, device loaded ideal up to XP Pro (not the drives just the adapter) The power supply does NOT perform with 2.5" drives plugged into the adapter. 1st drive I could hear the heads trashing around on a identified fantastic drive - not adequate power from the USB port. trashed the drive. Tried on various Computer's and was just poor trying to get a two.5" drive to perform None worked most likely due to energy troubles. should operate for some drives that have external power hook ups, no excellent for two.5" drives The ad wants to say the energy supply does NOT perform with two.5" drives - the only purpose I purchased this adapterWould return but it's not worth time or funds for the occasion, Hello Mr. trashcanI tried to choose a rating of zero but had to give it 1 egg
