This seemed like such a good idea, so handy. DOA. Even the power supply light wouldn't come on. Hardly worth it to go through the return method, so I opened up the power provide. The AC input power wasn't even connected to the rectifier, and the ground line wasn't even soldered. I haven't but tried to fix it.Newegg shouldn't even carry such poorly created gear. The cost should have told me everything, but it was a waste.

Very easily connect any (and I mean ANY - ODD, three.five, two.five, SATA) storage device to USB two.. None that I've found. This is perfect for popping out a drive & restoring data, or just connecting any device without getting to open up the situation and installing. You can even connect a laptop HD to it (don't know if it delivers power via USB to the drive -haven't tested however)

operates with no drivers necessary (pure usb block device), capable of high speed transfers, comes with a lot of cables, doesn't really feel flimsy like many usb-ide adapters i've tried. none so far, but haven't tested with two.5" drives to see if it can supply enough power. it'd greater.

Supports SATA, IDE. Cake to set up & use. Linux sees it flawlessly. In my case, the Energy Provide crapped out immediately after a month.Extremely annoying to pay Ű to RMA it back to Newegg to get yet another a single when the darn thing price ฝ in the first place. You get what you spend for & all that. Unfortunately, it seems like all the items like this are equally dependable, which is a waste.

I did not know how this worked at all. I just had an old HD with vital information that I necessary on my laptop. I bought this, and i plugged it right in. No problems. I have IDE tough drive that I am employing it with. The power supply on the IDE fits great with space. No issue with area for the IDE power. I do have to use the power cable for it to run, it won't run just plugging in the USB into my comp. So in conclusion. So far so great, no troubles, I would obtain it once more. Plugs in, and immediately is read by my COMPAQ laptop. None. Good for people that don't even know what 1 of these is. It's just effortless to use.

Cost, definitely. Probably fine, as long as you don't use the power supply. Power provide is junk. I opened it up to look at the components. I am a practicing electrical engineer and, even though I did not reverse engineer the circuit, my assessment from looking at the components is that there is no way I can think that these will assistance anywhere near the claimed 2AᤌV + 2AʅV = 34W power rating and/or preserve proper voltage regulation and/or not have serious danger of component failure. This explains to me the numerous comments about drives acquiring "fried," and so on. I strongly urge owners to discard the power provide and do not danger any pc gear on it. I purchased this in haste, before reading the reviews. But If you currently have a power supply and are just looking for an IDE/SATA to USB adapter, then this may possibly be a fantastic choice, offered the price.

This thing is undertaking what I want it to do suitable now, 2 minutes out of the box. I was going to purchase a difficult drive enclosure so I could just take folks's old hard drives and get the stuff off of them for them. This is even superior as it is way more affordable and you just hook it up temporarily and thats it. USB 2. is fairly quickly. It is taking 6 min to copy 4 gig of stuff to my difficult drive so I can back it up for them. Amazing. None so far. I am working with the SATA hookup now. I havent tried the IDE but I wanted one particular that goes each methods and this 1 has all the connections for it.

Easy and plain this item is wonderful. It does what its suppose to. It functions perfectly with vista with absolutely nothing to instal you just plug it in and go. It feels properly made and doesn't will need to be handled like a china set. Not a single con. I had this product for three months and it has been employed non stop. It is mounted in my computer case so I can use my dead lap tops hd for added space. For the price tag it is good and so is the excellent.

It ruined my drive and now I do not have a drive for my laptop or computer mainly because i was testing to see if the device worked. stupid me. So I am RMAing these to newegg The fed-ex guy left my products in below temps in my garage and I did not fine the box till 3 days later possibly that had one thing to do with it.

value, efficiency, function, simplicity. XP picked it correct up with it's own drivers. absolutely nothing i can consider of. i've only applied it twice and that was with an IDE optical drive. and i believe the dual-usb plugs are for use with a laptop harddrive. at least the IDE ones don't have a power plug, so the power is drawn from the USB ports. in that case, two plugs are likely crucial to provide sufficient amperage. that's my speculation.

I work in computer system service/repair, and this connector is an totally essential tool in my daily work. The power adapter is giving intermittent disconnects, which fails any disk clone I try to run with it. I'm also beginning to feel the USB/SATA portion is going as nicely. Whilst I've been utilizing it for 6-8 hours per day for about a month, this factor ought to be able to handle that level of use. anticipate it to break, it will.

It is a cool all in one device. The device did not function effectively. It glitched up my laptop or computer mouse when plugged it in. The device only work half the time, the other half the difficult drive was an error. The power brick created a funny noise.

Brains-free usage. Not a problem accessing something I plug into it - with 1 minor exception. Can even play full-length films through it without having any hiccups. And since USB is naturally slower than whatever drive's regular speed, the drives never ever appear to heat up. For some reason, it won't use any of my Seagate drives. Everything else works fine although. (My Seagate 160GB made sounds like a head crash, but the drive was undamaged. It apparently just didn't know how to operate with it. The drive worked fine in my Computer afterward.) Watch the power specifications on your drives. The PS only supplies 2A every single of 5v & 12v. If you overshoot, you could fry the PS. Perhaps someday I'll rig this gizmo into a case and use it for a removable-tray system.

Supports laptop two.5" drives, 3.five" Ultra ATA drives, and SATA drives.Consists of sata cable and molex to sata power adapter.Contains drivers for Windows 98 if you will need them.Power provide accepts standard pc power cord. Light weight. Doesn't get too hot. Usb cable (attached, non removable) is a small shorter than I'd like.No web page to download Windows 98 driver if you shed the CD. This only matters for Windows 98. I applied it overnight, and it never overheated or broke on me. Worked with my 1TB sata drive just fine.

The actual controller works well. Takes a few moments to register the drive, but that is normal. My power adapter was smoking and destroyed the controller on the sata test drive. The component that was destroyed was rated for 15 amps, which implies this factor was dishing out some Key power. Test your power supply before making use of it on one thing essential. Buyer beware.
