bought this in the story today. not only was the staff member helpful and didn't push the top of the line/most expensive on me, he found me something that would suit my needs. i have a 2000 sqft home and can go anywhere inside without a problem. i can now sit outside on my deck and be connected! great value and easy set up!

Susceptible to user error
Comment:
After reading dozens of negative reviews, I decided to stick with listening to the good reviews. The bad had three things in common: Not as fast as an ''N'' should be; poor support and; connection dropping. Internet speed and functionality have to do with several pieces of hardware. The weakest piece of hardware determines how strong the connection is. If you think buying an N for your 3-5 year old modem or your B or G rated network card is going to give top performance - You're mistaken. If your computer is old, this also influences functionality. If you have a decent computer, buy this router. If you're looking to hook up a clamshell Mac or a PC from 5 years ago, don't waste your money and don't write bad reviews on a good product.

Bought this router a month and a half ago for gaming. works great till this past week... it's now being RMA'd. It's sending out a signal but no ip, nor recieving ip's. it's a weird quirk for this model router. Just be certain to update to the latest firmware the moment you get it. the older firmware can't be changed at all once the ip issue starts up.

(Day 107) Ok first of all this is an OK product but when I set it up I had some problems for about a week. Now it runs fine, but the tech support is aweful they told me that my ISP was fooling with me, when I had some problems.

Great Product and Deal
Comment:
I purchased this Linksys wireless router 2 weeks ago to replace my original Linksys "B" router for my home. Product installed quickly and without incident. I was up and running 5 wireless computers and one wired connection in under one hour. Set up instructions are not geared for first time installers. I believe that there could have been better documentation. Aside from that, it is very fast and reliable. I'd highly recommend this product.

There is a bug in the firmware. Version 2, Build 11. The Linksys chat board is full of complaints. Evidently, Linksys/Cisco has no fix for this problem. Continually drops connections. I have one; it functions poorly.

''Day 10'' So Far so good! Drops connection every blue moon but I can live with that. Very strong signal and easy installation. Three systems online at same time(2 Desktops and PS3) 2 are wireless. My life is so much easier.

This is the worst router I have ever owned. It handles large amounts of data very poorly, and often drops the connection without warning or explanation. Resetting helps for about 3 minutes before problems start again. I've had two of these. (The first I sent back to linksys for being a terrible piece of machinery.) This one is no better than the first, leading me to believe that the name that has become synonymous with wireless networking has forgotten how to make a quality product.

I wonder if those having challenges were using the current or previous firmware. As of today, the Linksys.com site 4 clicks in (it keeps getting worse) has this as the current firmware: 01/30/2009 Ver.3.0.00 (build 010)with a link to the user guide at http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/WRT160N_V10_UG_A-WEB.pdf . Unfortunately, compared to the 2wire 1000 manual, this is not 'table of contents' on the left side. Looks like they are really 'cheaping' out the Linksys brand. Although the Wall Mounting template is a very cool touch. I was checking to make sure I could still control access by hours and MAC address. The screen shots keep getting lower resolution, so it becomes harder to tell, but I believe you still can do what your could do with the WRT54G2. It is disappointing to see manuals getting worse instead of better, even though most of the layout and other work is already done.

For those of you who want a true review, dont mind the pathetic reviews above. First off, if your CD didnt autorun, then its your computers fault, not Linksys. Secondly, if you just put the CD in the drive, and follow the onscreen instructions, your router is setup and theres nothing else needed. This router lacks the gigabit lan, however for the price, and performance its far superior than any of those routers purchased otherwise by the previous reviewers. Another thing with the N standard, simply put, with Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. Dont complain about speeds if you are sitting right on top of the router. People need to read and follow simple instructions before they talk bad about one of the greatest products.

Being a novice to wireless tech I purchased this Linksys WRT160N N Broadband Router with not a lot of expectations...what a mistake! All I wanted was a wireless connection for my son's XBox360. From the start the CD didn't autorun correctly and I had to start the setup.exe manually. Things went real bad from there. From slowing down my internet service to losing the connection altogether. I finally had to call the dreaded tech support. I had two lost connections with no one calling me back and when I finally did get through they blamed my ISP. Linksys will never be on my list again...stay away.

Hey man i gave this router 5/5 stars on every rating. Just got it from UPS not 1 hour ago, and i got it all hooked up and installed. As usual, TigerDirect got it here in 2 days, and i selected the 3-7 business day method, lol, Thank you TG. The installation CD worked fine for me, installed everything in less than 5 minutes. I dont know what these other people are going on about. I used to have a Netgear Wireless G router, and wow what a difference on my desktop when surfing the web, my net is going even faster than if it were just plugged into the cable modem. Linksys is by far the best router you can go with. I have yet to test it out wirelessly with my laptops. Excellent router for an excellent price. Thank you TigerDirect.

I bought this router in Sept, the instructions and CD didn't match, needed to contact LinkSYS helpdesk. Had an overseas connection about an hour later we had the router up and running, haven't had a problem since. Would like to recommend this router wish they had a better setup CD and instruction manual or download software and setup instruction from their website. perhaps this poses some sort of router security violation.

Installation CD didn't work. Got Linksys Helpdesk to help me configure it (I could have done it by myself with proper instruction manual). It went perfectly for 30 days then stopped working. Spent an hour with Linksys support, got disconnected, called back, went thru question period again. At one point I had to reset my modem (Telephony Modem) so lost them again. They never called back, I got fed-up and returned the device to store. Bought state of the art wired D-Link. Tough luck Linksys!

Well i did not buy this router from Tigerdirect because my family did not want to order it but we got the same router from local store had it for a week or two and has had no problems great speeds for wireless. So i think it is pretty good easy to install straight out of the box i haven't had any downtime like other people have had.

I had low signal strength using this router with a WPC4400N card in my laptop. After calling tech support at linksys and getting 8 people, 4 hours later I no longer had internet at all. The ''tech'' said the router was toast, which I knew was not true. They don't know what they're doing evidently. Needless to say, Tiger Direct let me return them both and I ordered D link.

Just got it today, and I successfully unplugged my older Linksys WRT54gv6 router. For someone wishing to move to Wireless N for home use and for great $$ then this is a no-brainer. As always, Tigerdirect shipped really fast, no hassles. My connection is fast (using it now) and configuration was a breeze. Even the connection to my NFS set of hard drives was very easy.

This is a great product. The only bad thing I have to say is that the install CD does not work. But the product started working on its own without my having to rack my brains trying to set it up. The firewall is amazing and surpasses anything Linksys did with the hardware/software of their previous products.

I'm experienced with wired and wireless networks, and I have to say that the WRT160N is probably the easiest wireless router I've installed. Not only it brought all standard components and features for a device of its kind, but it actually surprised me with a few extra features like the ability to reserve static IP addresses for those devices that need it. Overall, I'm very happy with the way Cisco works; their products are excellent quality and their support is 2nd to none. By the way, this router is so stylish, it would be a nice dinner table centerpiece and no one would noticed it's a wireless device. :)

This Cisco product is quality.Set up is a breeze just insert your CD and follow the simple steps. It's idiot proof!Make sure your device has a Dual Band N card.PC was easy it recognized both my cable modem and wireless. I would advise that u have Norton protection on your PC and notebook for compatibility issues. This modem is fast ''NO LIE'' it blazes. Like someone said it's defective or u don't know what your doing.Yes it does run hot like my cable modem and yes the arctic blue lights are bright, but i just covered them with black electrical tape. I recommend this product for home use the 160 N router has a 50 meter+ range.Just don't use it too close for some reason the signal fades.Happy WiFi customer.

For the one who are complaining about this router, probably have it setup incorrectly. I ave owned this router over 6 months, I have a brother 465n connected to one of the Ethernet ports, all the computers in the household can connect wireless. I have Apple OS, Windows XP and Windows Vista Ultimate computers all connected with no issues. if you have a cordless phone on the same frequency 2.4ghz , there is a chance of connection problems, other then that this is a great router, Linksys customer support will help you with any technical issues and walk you through every step. 5 STARS!!!!!!!

Man, am I glad some of you don't do wireless network set-ups for a living. This has got to be the easiest setup of all time. I live about 2 miles from W*lmart and I took my laptop(with a wireless ''N'' NIC) and still got 3&4 bars. TIP: mount a shelf 6 feet from the floor and place the Router on it,Use CAT6 Cable,Uninstall all previous drivers of your old card,Follow ALL install directions to the letter (I installed all the cables except the power supply). After it does its thing you're ready to go ! Very cool product and at home I'm getting close to 300Mps ! Make sure your Ram speed is high ! Check your bios if all else fails.
