it does not use the similar kinda plug that a audio card or other kind card would use it leaves me yet another plug to put some thing else there it was unreadable by my initial motherboard idk if its my plug on the motherboard or the card is doa i'm going to try my new motherboard and see if it can be study on it. if not ill just ask newegg for an rma on it the service is quick if u want them to expadite. commonly they will be glad to. newegg truly goes the additional mile to get things performed

i didn't waste As well significantly income.... read a lot of mixed critiques but i took a leap of faith. the ones who stated it worked out of the box let me down.when i boot up my Computer i see that it notices my HD (also tried my cd drive. it noticed it as effectively) but when i'm in windows i can not access it. i read critiques that stated you require to update bios and flash so i went to the silicon help page to DL the updates. the SIL3132 on the assistance page is not the identical as this 1 i bought so i did not even try. i give up.

It functions perfectly for me? Manual Documentation could of been better and yes the drivers are confusing for non raid. Works like a champ though and affordable

Will function as a RAID card. Will function as an internal SATA controller if you flash the BIOS. You can flash the BIOS, in spite of what other testimonials could say. I've bought the card on two occasions and run both in the identical computer devoid of concern. It gets the second egg in the rating simply because if you want a RAID card, it really is just a plug and play affair. Newegg shipped a card to me that was in a previously opened package - it was held closed with scotch tape. Also, the two SATA cables were missing. These had been included with the first of the card I purchased and had been, in my opinion, a massive component of the card's worth. Regardless, if it weren't for the bother and further expense of paying for return shipping, I'd send it back and demand a new one. Rather, I just won't get this item any far more.

I have been working with this product for more than a year and it has worked flawlessly. Decided to order a different for a various machine. Arrived as an Clearly pre-used and returned product. The product container was hastily (and badly) retaped. The card does NOT perform, no blame on the item since I can't tell how badly it had been treated by the preceding owner ahead of getting sold as new. I did come across many bent pins on the jumpers and so forth. In my numerous years, and dozens of orders with Newegg I have under no circumstances seen this kind of shoddy substitution done ahead of. I hope this isn't a precursor of factor to come.

Operates. Firmware isn't upgradable. Had to use outdated BIOS and use "concetenation mode" to make it bootable (not confident on complete name but i don't know considerably about RAID either). Acronis Correct Image WD Edition ( software program for my new WD tricky drive ) only detects the drive if concetenation mode is off. When on concentenation mode, drive is bootable but the ID is generated from the add-on card so the HD looks like a SCSI Silicon Image Hard-Drive. Soon after the cloning method on the other hand, Windows 7 runs off the HD perfectly at SATA II speeds regardless of how the HDD looks to Windows.

Inexpensive. Wicked uncomplicated to install. Plug, install drivers from cd. automatically recognizes drive. despite the fact that it says it has 4 sata connections only two can perform at any a single time. I am not opperating this in raid and am not positive about its efficiency under that set up.

It does technically perform, performs nicely, and it looks good and is low cost. Caveats skilled - see "cons". Fundamentally no documentation or drivers or firmware readily available packaged with card or readily available on vendor internet site. You're kinda on your own. Its not a complicated card but...Jumpers are set by default to use the external ports. If you read the silkscreen you can figure it out but that's all you have to operate off of which is not best.SIL(chipset vendor) web page has updated firmware for both RAID modes and plain SATA modes - but DOS utility doesn't support the flash chip on this card. Windows driver may well work but didn't get and install Windows to find out. The firmware shipped will only do RAID - it can not be set to just work as a plain SATA controller so DVD/CD drives will not work on it and all disks if you just want a JBOD have to be setup as one particular disk concats for it to pass them to the underlying OS. Workable but lame.

seems like competent hardware if you know how to adjust bios successfully. There are warnings and confusing info about which bios to flash on the sil site. bios flash and which bios to flash is really confusing to come across out about at sil internet site. The sata raid board is a reference chip and the model (it has 4 ports can not be found on the sil website) It is greater to seek a certain product that functions in non raid. I identified only one or two of those at NEWEGG that could operate.for someone trying to simply add a sata drive this buy is a waste of time. I am fairly adept at obtaining points accomplished with computers and I still do not know which bios to flash or how to flash it properly for this reference board.

Inexpensive Purchased here in late Dec. Installed in March and found 1) wouldn't boot esata disc and 2) had quite old SiL3132 firmware. Contacted Fanner 3 times by phone and once by e.mail. They are Still non-responsive. Two calls I left messages which were in no way returned and 1 I spoke to Tech Support in which he promised to e.mail me an RMA package. He in no way did. No reply to my e.mail. They don't honor their written RMA policy. Firmware is NOT flashable with Silicon Image's common SiL3132 latest package. Do NOT purchase this item! Based on my expertise with this item from Fanner Tech (MassCool) and their really questionable organization practices I would suggest NOT to get ANY product from them.

I purchased this to install in my tower, due to the fact I'm out of SATA ports, but ended up utilizing it temporarily to set up a NAS I was also developing. It worked well, Linux (Ubuntu ten.10 Server) supported it out of the box, and it had zero concerns. That's how it need to be! None.

-Provided me with the extra ports I required(I broke 1 port on my MB) for my CD/DVD burner.-Comes with two SATA-to-4 pin molex energy plug adapters-Comes with two 1' fiveƱǞ" long SATA cords-Works, inexpensive. -Can only have either the internal SATA or e-SATA ports on individually, not together or split.-Install mini-cd was split in half.... Masscool, package your item so that Something that comes inside it comes NOT broken. Seriously, the mini-cd was SPLIT IN HALF!, yet the card was just fine... Come on MASSCOOL!!Still can get the drivers from their web-site, but the cd need to NOT BE BROKEN!!!!

The item functions, properly. It's also little and is supported by microsoft, so updating is very straightforward. Comes with numerous cables, and the price is decent. Directions are poor, but it's not like you want them anyways. You can only use two ports at a time. There are jumpers to modify which ports you want to use. You can use either two innerǘ outer or 1 inner and 1 outer. I believed it was four dedicated ports. I would truly go to the length to say this is false advertising. Because all they did was have two connectors for the identical SATA port. And you can only use 1 at a time. I would not use the E sata all the time, but the times I use it, I have to take off the case and plug in the drives I want. Also jumpers had been not set to default pins as mentioned in the manual. I had to adjust them to make the inner ports work.

Plugged it in, Vista located and installed it. Instructions stated jumpers had been default for internal connection(there are four ports two inside 2 outside but only two can be used at 1 time). This was not the case. The card was in device manager but no drives. Right after half hour of headachs the light clicked in my head hooked the drives to the outside ports and there they had been. I then swapped the jumpers and was in small business. Jeff states tough to use in non raid but this is how I am utilizing this card with no problems.MSI K9A Platinum bios ver 1.7

Works OK. BIOS cannot be updated. This is just an average card. You can download a existing BIOS for the card from the maker of the controller chip (Silicon Image), and I've applied it on other cards with the 3132 chip. However, Masscool uses a flash chip not recognized by the utility, and three attempts at contacting Masscool about this resulted only in silence. Don't expect anything from the manufacturer. Get a card exactly where folks report success in flashing the card's BIOS.

I'm using this on a MacPro and It dose the job of an eSATA connection. I am employing this with a HD Dock and the speeds are just fine. 65.7MB/s-Read 62.4MB/s-Write.Compared to the precise similar Drive internallyᛪ.8MB/s-Read 42.1MB/s-Write.I'm not employing it as a RAID so you'll have to ask someone else about that. OH MY WORD!!!!What a pain in the but* (no bad words identified here) to get this thing working. It says it comes with user Manuel and install CD, not in mine. Finally finding a manuel for one more names controller card, I got the jumpers taken care of. Then calling Tech. they sent me to a internet site that wasen't even theres to get the driver. 1 hell of a walk about. but to save you all time. (http://www.siliconimage.com/support/searchresults.aspx?pid៴&catɥ) This is the link to the drivers As a item, it dose what I wanted it to do, nothing a lot more nothing much less. As a company, I would think twice prior to getting from them again. BUT their tech did solve my challenge within 2 mins, its just the run around to get it performed.

Bootable, speedy, no issues burning. Internal connector way too tight. Broke sata cable off inside the connector. Also why would you make cards that are red? I do not own one thing out of my 8 laptop or computer systems that is red, properly possibly a generic sata cable that I haven't upgraded however, but come on yellow would be cool.

No help from Support
Comment:
I too am stuck with machines that do not boot after this card is installed. No help from tech support. I would like to talk to one person who can reboot their machine (reliably) with this card in and find out what board they are using. I have tried Intel, Dell, Asus, Gigabyte. They all do the same thing. get stuck at the bios screen when booting. I have two of these cards just sitting. Still wonder why I have not thrown them out. In case you are wondering I have even played with updating and down grading the BIOS on each system, power supplies, memory, different drives, disabling onboard devices, ect....

Terrible SATA controller.
Comment:
I have this same controller except with Sabrents name on it and it works fine. This card is terrible. It runs really hot, was hard to install as the external SATA ports are too close to the edge of the plate, and the bios screen only stays up for about 1/2 a second making it hard to get into. Overall this is a very cheaply made card and I would not recommend it.
