This is a great product. Server software for this price is amazing. The back up feature is great, works with no effort. The backup feature does have wake on LAN , but you have to set it on the client install. There is a lot of free apps for the console function. This is a full server, you can install DNS and active directory, it is on the install disk, just not installed automatically. Read some of the forums on the internet. Install and management is easy as pie.

Good product. Although system requirements are low you should take into consideration that you will be backing up all your PCs on this thing so get reliable hardware with some zip to it (doesn't have to be the latest/greatest stuff though). Goal is low power consumption, low noise, gigabit network connection and try to use hardware that is compatible with 64-bit because the upgrade path specified by Microsoft strongly suggests Home Server will be 64-bit only by the next version due 2010. Features gave it a 3 because there are some bells and whistles it should have that it doesn't such as remote wake of networked PCs that although available from 3rd parties tends to be amateurish. You will find an avid community of developers writing interesting little apps some good some not. Overall I'm happy with the product, running on an AMD Athlon 64X2 4600 with 1.25TB storage and 2GB ram for about a year with only an occasional restart after OS updates.

Great OS for a home server. I built a very modest box with a bunch of old IDE drives and couple of new sata drives and it works great! It backs up all the PCs in my house automatically, sinks with my Xbox and allows me to view my files of-site through a simple webpage. Can also use it to remote access all the PCs in my house. Really wish you could upgrade from the trial version to the full version without re-installing the OS.

This is the software every household needs, in my opinion. Home server backs up your computers, tells you when security issues arise, and the system requirements are minimal, so if you feel adventorous, grab a copy and throw it on that 3 year old box of yours.
