Runs good at low speed. Fails running at DDR-800 speed, even with memory voltage set to 1.9 volt. Installed new motherboard ASUS P5G41-M LE/CSM, Intel Pentium E6500 dual core 2.93GHz 65W, Cooler Master Hyper N520 CPU cooler, Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB SATA drive, Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit(full) OEM and this memory PatriotPGS24G6400ELK 4GB ƒ x 2). Windows 7 installing failed with blue-screen errors making use of default hardware setup. Memtest86+ showed memory failures operating at default settings for processor and memory(DDR-800). Does what is really should and functions. The heat sinks attached to the mem stick actually do take the heat of the mem chips. No memory errors. I ordered two kits, so four sticks of ram in two packages. 1 packaged worked just fine, although the other did not. To be fair the second package did have one stick that really worked. So due to the fact half of the packages worked, the item gets a lower score. New egg took the ram back and set a different package, it of coarse worked. Nonetheless this is the second out of 3 packages of ram I have purchased from new egg that I had concerns with. The 1st was an OCZ kit with advertised CAS latency that was not stable (crashed while in the bios, besides memtest concerns.) This problem on the second set was DOA and the concept sits in my thoughts that new egg is a little risky on ram purchases. Out of the six sticks of ram I purchased in the last three months, 50 percent have not worked as advertised. I guess I would not be unhappy if I did not have to spend to ship it back. :) |
