It was low cost, but... You get what you pay for. It set on fire on 1st use, melted itself, and ruined my compactflash to IDE 2.five adapter, and my 贄 compactflash card Ƙgb 266x).

Affordable. Requirements a pin cut off on the 40 pin side for keyed IDE connectors. This is what requirements to be accomplished, but do so at your own danger - I'm not responsible for misinterpretation or the wrong pin cut:Looking straight on at the 40 pin header with the power connector on your left, counting from the lower row, ideal side, cut the 10th pin from the proper. This has worked fine on two of these adapters I've purchased.

Great for information recovery on laptop hard disks. Utilised for two various drives so far and was able to recover data off of them. Seems like its cheaply made so just be cautious when plugging/unplugging devices.

Does what it is supposed to do. The power cable seems loosely attached to the molex connection itself, like the cables might fall off the plastic. You have to bend out one the of the pins going to the three.5 in IDE connector for it to fit in any IDE female connector.

Facilitates the transfer of 1s and 0s. Purchased two so I could clone/ upgrade an older laptop tricky drive making use of clonezilla (free Linux drive cloning utility). Had to break off a pin to fit a typical IDE cable. Use care to break the correct pin, recheck 2 or 3 occasions prior to applying the pliers. My chargeback is a single egg docked for annoyance! Price tag like shipping is a bit high, but I necessary it.

Connected directly to the laptop challenging drive, then to computer without having a problem. Right after boot up, drive was accessible by way of Explorer permitting me to extract the valuable information.Worth the value, even for one particular use! None for the price tag. I hooked mine into the secondary IDE for the DVD Burner drive, which on most older computer systems is a 40 pin cable, therefore no modifications had been needed.

Works as advertisedUncomplicated and straightforward to useC'mon, it's a cable. It functions. What additional do you want? Had to break off a pin for it to fit into ATA133 cable (?!) As stated above, it has the full PATA pin set so if your cable is the sort with one particular pin "blocked" you will need to have to break it off for it to fit in. Didn't seem to trigger any complications with operation even though!

Works fantastic. Connections are snug. There's a energy connection for the drive. If you don't have a Extremely old style ATA cable you're going to want to do some "hack sawing." See "Other thoughts" beneath ...The connections getting snug could be a difficulty if you're going to be connecting to different drives a number of times per hour 24ƫꕽ. That's not how 99.9% of folks will be working with it. As other users have talked about you want to use this connector along with a Quite old style/non-pin-keyed ATA cable ... either that or do the snipping described in the other entries. You really should be in a position to get an old style cable at a personal computer show or borrow 1 from a buddy who has been creating PCs for 10+ years.New style cables can be effortlessly identified ... the connector that plugs into the mobo will be blue. In old style cables none of the connectors will be blue. More importantly, old style will have a "key" on the exterior of the head of the cable at the best BUT WILL NOT HAVE A Key in any of the holes that the pin array plugs into. How to connect a drive making use of this connector ...-Put the drive on the left, top rated up and cable finish facing suitable.-Connector in the middle with the power leads towards you.-ATA flat cable on the appropriate with red edge away from you. There's an SWF animation of the above that can be discovered by performing a net search for hddadaptermovie.

Works just as it really should, no complications so far. You need to have a fairly excellent understanding on how IDE is set up to install it. The factor is, they place a pin on the male side exactly where there is a dummy slot, so you have to bend a bin out of the way in order for it to connect. Practically all IDE cables made in the last, like, 7-10 years have this dummy slot, so Rosewill could have completed a much better job. You just have to recall to put the cable in ideal, right after you bend the pin out of the way (if your employing a 40 pin wire you could not have to, but almost all cables are 80 pins now). Pin one particular (on the side with the colored stripe) goes on the opposite side of the energy.

Ordered two of these and got them three days later. Kudos, as usual, to Newegg for the quickly shipping. Just got the chance to attempt this product nowadays, and it worked like a champ, 1st time out. Employed it to scan, and clean a Laptop HDD on my scanner Comp. The only thing I can see so far, is the reality that the Power Connection to the adapter itself is a bit flimsy. Careful handling is in order.

I received mine on fourቲብ and utilized it successfully.SuperTech is right but if you look at the unit cautiously, you will see an imprinted tiny arrow towards the end in the middle. This is pin 1 or the red wire of the HD IDE cable. When you line up the pins, you can see exactly where the odd pin on the adapter can\'t fit on the plugged connector of the IDE cable.Just mark that spot and bend the pin slightly out and the push the IDE cable in. I then formed the bent pin to the contour of the IDE cable to act as a brace guide. This adapter is sturdy and does not flex as my previous 1 that I use to clone older laptops OS. None so far but when newegg has a much better cost(paid four.99+FS)again,I will get one more. I want a good high quality USB 2. to IDE two.5,3.five / SATA1ž two.five,3.5 Converter/adapter.Any ideas from the techies of newegg. Thanks

It functions fantastic, and allowed me to back up an individual's data from their dead laptop. I also get to maintain the 80GB drive for my personal use now. There is one added pin on the adapter, which on difficult drives is intentionally missing. It's straightforward to take away the additional pin -- just bend it back and forth until it snaps off. (Be careful to get the correct pin even though!)

Take away Pin, plug in and method recognized the drive.Couldn't be much cheaper Has an added pin. Massive deal, get out a pair of cutters and snip the pin. I can realize if you're a newbie and don't anticipate to do this, but when you rate your tech information as "HIGH" and then cut the incorrect pin, you're in the wrong field. Look, in general, when you plug in a cable, the wording on the adapter or cable must be on leading or readable that way.Regrettably, this variety of power connector is installed opposite the way a common 3.5" drive does, exactly where the red line of the pata cable is constantly closest to the energy plug.

Functions. Wonderful for recovery... Should modify just to get it to perform. I had to cut the wires and extend it just to get it to perform. Also had to modify the pins. I bought two; 1 was for an external HD and the other for what ever objective I will need it for in the future. You will most probably need to have cut, rewire and pull pins just to get it to work. Nevertheless, once it operates... it's a keeper. It will only be as great as you make it.

Its affordable. and does what its supposed to do. following a modification. The 3.five inch adapter side (the side that would plug into your ribbon cable) does not have to missing "key" pin. it has all of the pins all the way across. This suggests the adapter could accidentally be flipped more than causing it not to perform. This was specifically troublesome for me simply because my IDE ribbon cable has the important hole blocked off. So i had to use a multimeter to test every single pin until i located a single with no connection and snip it off. Now i have a essential pin to reference and can use the item just fine.

It looks like it ought to function. It actually does! No certain instructions (Or any directions, seriously). No clue which finish is up, assumed the power cable went on the power cable side, if that tends to make sense. I tried and tried and tried, but could not get this issue to mount. My pc would not recognize the HDD, so I have a useless HDD sitting around and a tiny gadget that I can't get to perform. Oh nicely! May well operate a small far better on a much less-than-ancient laptop or computer, but I'm doubtful that this kind of thing operates flawlessly in any scenario. Operates great. Connections are snug. There's a power connection for the drive. If you don't have a Very old style ATA cable you're going to require to do some "hack sawing." ATA cables with no blue connector have 40 wires. Ultra ATA offers those 40 wires their own ground wires (less crosstalk) and preserve the 40 pin connector. Old 40 wire cables may or may well not work in an Ultra ATA setup. They could appear to perform OK, but you could get lots of xmission retries (=slower). If you use a non-Ultra ATA cable (no blue connector) with this adapter to xfer information between drives make sure you verify the information - EG use the Ghost verify alternative.Ultra ATA cables (has blue connector) that do not have pin 20 keyed do exist. With 1 of those cables you won't have to snip pin 20. Such cables had been, for a time, shipped with WD drives. One particular such cable came in a package (w screws+jumper) labeled BI-65641-00.It's achievable that in specific setups that pin 20 can present VCC to flash disks. For some handful of folks it could be beneficial that pin 20 is there if those people don't want to use the offered power connector. See Wikipedia entry for Ultra_ata for a lot more info on most anything above.

Solved the difficulty I required solved, and I didn't run into any unexpected matters - Thanks to the prior reviewers who recommended removing a pin! This item is cheaply manufactured, and it requires a bit of twiddling (removing a pin) to get it to work at all. It is most definitely a spending budget item. I got exactly what I expected, and at a good price tag. The product itself isn't high quality, but recognizing this going in, I was satisfied with the acquire.

Ok so it looks like it will do the job, and the price is great. That's genuinely the only factor that kept this from a single egg, as it's quite poorly developed. So I'm not positive what all of the glowing critiques from other people are about considering that this adapter doesn't even come with the appropriate pin out for IDE. I don't think it's acceptable to have to bend a flimsy pin just to get the adapter working, therefore I give this a poor rating. I bought this to troubleshoot an old laptop difficult drive and possibly set up into a router running pfSense (FreeBSD distro for routing, QoS, and so on.) I hate to have to second guess myself as to which pin really should be bent down, and I don't have one more laptop HDD to test it on, so I guess the drive is negative...........even so I'm not extremely confident in the construction of this adapter. Like I stated, the only factor keeping it from 1 egg was the cost. Rosewill items are constantly budget based items, but they're usually properly-created and are well built for the value. This product is the exception to that rule.
