n/a Power plug fell off immediately after very first use. Incredibly poor soldering. Incredibly poor quality adapter. Has an extra pin where one particular is not needed on the 3.5" side. Had to bend this out of the way to use it.

Does what it was created to do.Low cost price tag: ŭ when I bought it. see "Other thoughts" I bought this for data recovery purposes. Effortlessly connects to the two.5in harddrive, but had to modify the 3.5in ide cable (the one particular your normally use to connect your 3.5in drive).Looking at your IDE cable, you'll discover that one particular of the middle connector holes is blocked/filled with plastic. You'll have to open this up in order to connect the adapter to the three.5in IDE cable.I used a blowtorch to heat a sharp pin which I then applied to the blocked hole. This melts the plastic and opens the hole to get the male connector pins from the adapter.

Operates as advertise. Bend or eliminate a PIN in order to put the IDE cable on it. If you are not willing to do a small additional perform, don't buy it. Also, if you are willing to put it inside your case you have to get an adapter which is not low-cost at all.

If it worked, I would think about that it would enable you to connect a laptop challenging drive to an internal IDE header. Is not keyed on the IDE side. You need to bend a pin in order for it to truly work. But its a guess on which side you have to bend. So in trying to bend the pin to get it to fit on, the pin broke off. Lo and behold that it wasn't the keyed pin, and the connection in fact required to be put on in reverse. Nicely, that pin that broke off ended up getting the IDE Read pin, making the adapter successfully useless. I have employed a couple of Rosewill products in the past, and this 1 is surely the worst. I believe its embarrasing that they would miss some thing as straightforward as a keyed pin on an IDE header. Waste of 10 dollars. (But as far as Newegg goes, always fantastic service!) Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Client,We are sorry for the inconvenience this might have triggered you. We attempt to provide the most reliable goods to our customers. We would be a lot more than content, if below warranty, to replace this unit for you. Please email us at rma@rosewill.com for your replacement. There are other manufacturers to pick from, hopefully they're not all this flimsy. The power cable that attaches to the adapter is very fragile. I had 1 of the connectors from the power cable come apart and no longer connects. I was hoping to solder together the wire to 1 of the pins, doubt it will remain together.

low-cost unusable. Virtually every IDE cable out there is polarized with one pin in the middle blocked off. This adapter has all pins coming by way of so it cannot be inserted into a cable. If I dig though some of my genuinely old stuff, maybe I can locate one that will let me use this. But make certain you have a usable cable initial. How could any person have thought this would be a usable style? I have taken a shine to Rosewill but this is taking the blush off.

It's precisely what was expected and shown in the Newegg ad.It's low priced not "CHEAP". I would like to have observed pin 20 already cut off, but for some applications it may well be necessary, I just don't know what that would be. The construction is as excellent as can be accomplished for this kind of item. It's not bullet proof and you have to handle items like this with come care.

Functions as advertised. Employed this adapter to connect an old laptop tough drive to my desktop pc so I could copy the contents. Copied to a spare desktop challenging drive making use of no cost Easeus Partition Manager (from www.download.com). Then copied from spare desktop challenging drive onto a new laptop tough drive, once again using this adapter and the Easeus software program. No issues. NOTE: The connector on this adapter has two full rows of pins with no spaces. You Can\'t connect it to an IDE ribbon cable that has a blank space in the middle of one row of holes. The IDE cable have to have two rows of holes wth no blank spaces! Is that the older ATA standard as opposed to the newer Ultra ATA standard cable?

Basic connections, each for energy and the ide cable. Took one time of bending the incorrect pin (I did it upside down), but the drive was recognized and was setup in Vista without complications.

Quite affordable and simple to use, allows seemless conversion between laptop 2.5 drive and destop 3.5 ide adapter. There is an extra pin on the three.5 side that requires to be removed prior to utilizing this device. Make particular you are cutting the right pin off first! I've only had to use this device a few times, but it performed as advertised for my information archiving project. Manufacturer must take away that extra pin.

It works as stated. Fast and efficient way to remove information from an old IDE drive. Getting to bend 1 of the pins so it appropriately connects to your drive. Overall, I didn't have too numerous issues with this device. It looks incredibly cheap, but it did function. I wouldn't use this a permanent solution.

Does just what it claims. Straightforward and works really nicely; no additional small circuit board to break or drivers to install. As other reviewers mentioned it has an added pin which does not conform to the blank slot on most IDE connectors, but pliers can fix this swiftly... I'd prolly obtain an IDE to SATA converter rather of this if I had it to do over again. The IDE cable is big and bulky.

Nice small adapter for older 2.five drives. Want some technical expertise or the ability to investigation.Review by Super-Tech was spot on copy/paste below on pin removal."Follow these directions: With the adapter in your hand, and the MALE IDE pins facing you (which implies the energy cable will be on the LEFT FRONT); on the bottom row of pins, going from left to proper, count to the ELEVENTH pin and bend it out of the way. Don't cut it off with no generating positive it fits onto an IDE cable, obviously. If it fits, you're completed. Cut it off and you're ready to go."

Worked truly nicely. I had an old laptop die on me and I was able to move the information on the challenging drive to 1 of my desktops with relative ease. Only one difficulty... ...they have an extra pin on the IDE side, so you have to clip it off oneself. Not the easiest task mainly because the pins are so close together. Just make positive you line every little thing up correctly before you begin cutting!

It works fine for three.five" IDE and SATA. No external energy connector for two.5" IDE. Won't function with 2.5" drives requiring far more power that a single USB bus can offer.

Does work, and has worked repeatedly (so far...)I use these to recover information from crashed laptop hard drives. Had to clip pin 20 on the cable side for keyed cables. I actually don't think *I* need to have to do this. This is a regular that has been around a whilst.Does not seat totally on the drive.Power connector wires are too fragile and too brief for repeated use. All-in-all, not bad (for me) for what I paid for it. But, it is not practically as very good as what it replaced, and I doubt it will last anywhere near as long.

It worked as created, low price. Mine appeared to be a small far more sturdy than other people have reported. The pins are powerful and the adapter does not slide off at all. I did have to break the additional PIN off like others did. The number 1 pin is tougher to discover that I would anticipate. There is a little white triangle that shows you exactly where the number 1 Pin is located. Line that up with any regular IDE cable. The IDE cable will have a different colored cable for the number 1 Pin. When you locate these you can uncover the Pin that has to be removed. I utilised a flathead to bend it back and forth 3 times and it eventually snapped off clean.

Been needing to SpinRite a laptop tough drive from a laptop that won't boot from CD or USB. This adapter allowed me to hook up the laptop drive to my test bench desktop and do the surface repair/recovery as I needed.Pretty sturdy, expected this to really feel a bit less costly, but this will take a bit of abuse. As other people have noted, full set of pins. If you don't have an IDE cable lying about Without having the keypin filled in (I did), then you will most likely have to bore a hole into your IDE cable's connector block OR break off the pin on the adapter. How know you've got the perfect pin... read the Other Thoughts section. HOW TO KNOW WHICH WAY IS "UP"...40 Pin finish 1st pin *IS* marked on the adapter with a raised triangle along that edge. "Top" has the letters raised saying two.five" HDD Adapter. The laptopኈ pin side is keyed. The desktop ide/male 40 pin side is not keyed.Desktop 40 pin IDE cables have a red line along the initial pin side. The power cable must be on the OPPOSITE side when aligned correctly. As long as you maintain in mind that the correct way to plug the adapter into an IDE cable is to keep the power connector opposite the red lineǗst pin indicator, you will safely know which pin can be broken off for it to fit on a cable that is keyed. In short... Power connector on adapter opposite end of the red line on IDE cable. Don\'t forget that and you're set.

Works terrific as soon as installed. I had to cut a pin in order to get the adapter to really fit a normal cable. Not actually a big deal. Just line up the adapter with the cable to see which pin requirements to be cut or bent.

Meh, I guess that when I obtain the replacement, the adapter will work. You have to bend or break 1 of the pins that was supposed to be keyed on the male 40-pin IDE side. 50኎ chance of obtaining it appropriate. I got it wrong. Broke the read pin on the opposite side instead. It's junk now. Thankfully Newegg is courteous enough to send me a no cost replacement. I'm certain I'll bend the right pin this time, but it's pretty ridiculous that Rosewill doesn't follow IDE standards. Come on now.

Worked fine. That reviewer said with the power connector on the left, bend the tenth pin, but he didn't say which way to hold it. There are naturally TWO techniques to hold it, depending on whether you're holding it backwards or frontwards in mixture with upside down or downside up, and each of those techniques the power connector would be on the left. What's far more, if you take what he said to mean what I did, you're going to bend the wrong pin....which is specifically what I did, on each of the adapters I bought!!Follow these directions: With the adapter in your hand, and the MALE IDE pins facing you (which indicates the power cable will be on the LEFT FRONT); on the bottom row of pins, going from left to correct, count to the ELEVENTH pin and bend it out of the way. Don't cut it off with out making sure it fits onto an IDE cable, clearly. If it fits, you're done. Cut it off and you're prepared to go.
