The problem appears to be with the enclosure. This the second enclosure I have received from this firm and it failed entirely. I had the identical symptoms from the past enclosure. These issues worked good. A computer I built back in 2005 was on it's last leg so to speak but had some fantastic IDE drives in it. These were simple to install into the Rosewill externals and are solid as a rock. My existing Windows 7 OS computers(desktop, laptop and notebook) recognized them instantly. Saved some essential old documents and Windows 7 makes it simple to format and partition them anyway you want. For the cost I can\'t assume of any.

Almost everything is offered from off an old Fireball HDD that had XP on almost everything is recoverable. I also previously have one particular for SATA now this 1 for ole EIDE HDD's Fantastic! Vista does it's factor and installs the Drive! none works Very nicely! I didn't get sooner. Now have retrieved all the old Pictures are from the ole Fireball HDD in an old Gateway that need to been long ago retired to the old Computer museum years ago!

I love these, they work nicely, effortless to setup. I was wondering what to do with two difficult drives that had been working fine but I couldn't fit them into my new PC (incompatible with new mobo). Then I was told that I could use these enclosures that I didn't know about. Now I have two external drives in these enclosures along with the one on mobo! Straightforward to install but have to be careful when "shoving" the drive in and closing the enclosure. These come with holders so they say upright but due to the weight of the drives inside, they appear to tip more than quickly.

Ok let me say this about it, it does precisely what its supposed to do. It take my 300 wd ide drive i had laying around and makes it into a "portable"external usb hd. So far ive had no issues writing, vista 64 seeing it or reading off of it. Plus the led light is blue and not overly bright Ok heres where i type of nit pick. Most of this doesnt make it bad because it only ฤ. It not lightweight at all(dont know where the other reviewer got that). becuase of the thinkness and durability of the thing, thats what makes it kinda heavy. The usb cord it comes with is way too modest so anticipate to either attach a bigger 1 unless u want it ontop of or appropriate smack near the comp. Quite nicely sturdy and built. Now i didnt make this problem a con but if you keep it on a desk, prepare for the desk to vibrate a bit. i will be getting one once again after about a month or so of use, just to make certain it durability

Properly built aluminum case! 3ǚ of the time I can't turn it on! I have to switch among ON and OFF sevral times just before the HDD begins to spin... If you get it to start out, don't turn it off, or it's going to be a headache. Soon after practically a month, now vista doesn't recognize the drive saying it's defective.... I could exchange it, but then I'll be out one more 10 dollars to ship it back to newegg....Spend a little far more and purchase the EAGLE brand of external enclosure! This is a wonderful enclosure and it perform as expected. The A/C adapter wire is very weak. It wore out at the extremely base from getting wrapped and carried to and from function. Now I can't use my external difficult drive and I can't discover a replacement without paying as significantly for the adapter as I did for the enclosure + the adapter. This is my second external enclosure by Rosewill that I've had for this certain tough drive. None 2nd replacement for enclosure was DOA. It would energy on and then the light would go out. The drive spins but it is not recognized by the personal computer at all until the enclosure is shut down. The laptop or computer then recognizes the drive for a brief second. I ran a test program and it took 45 min for the program to recognize that the drive was hooked up. I have had the very same symptoms with the last two. The drive was tested and it works fine. This is truly bad. Rosewill did refund the return shipping cost for the last 1. On the other hand, Rosewill sent me an additional defective product. This is intolerable. I know my HDD does function fine because it was tested without having the enclosure by installing into a different computer and it spun up fine. Customer service was terrific. Rosewill got back to me quickly and solved the challenge. I just wish they would have better quality assurance. 3 bad external enclosures in a row is too considerably.
