Worked Ok
Comment:
The device worked fine. The proce was great. The screws used did not line up well and the instructions were translated poorly. Fortunately, using the enclosure was automatic. Great deal for the price. Best Buy wanted $60 for a similar unit.

Nice tool/toy/expansion for laptop
Comment:
Laptop hard drive to USB device. 1. I have a laptop that crashed. Pull the drive and load it in this device. Examine with SpinRite. Oh Well! @#$%&*! Get new drive and reload. Move USB to *nix machine, mount, and use tools to recover the data that is left. 2. Laptop bulging at the seams... Insert a good drive and connect to laptop. Room for a lot more recording! 3. Large audio files on laptop want to go to desktop for editing. Plug in the USB drive, transfer, sneakernet to the desktop, work from USB drive to Desktop hard drive. Not the first of these that I have purchased, and this one works from the gitgo!

Plug it n and it is recognized then it does not work, shows an IO error on two different drives. Software is not for XP, no autoinstaller with software. Would not recommend this to anyone, I guess if you buy cheap, you get cheap.

Comment:
The enclosure was ok at best. Nothing to secure the bottom end of the hard drive from whacking the inside of the enclosure. Most importantly, will not work if your hard drive needs more than 500mA to operate. No separate power supply included for hard drives over 500mA which means that I couldn't get mine to work. Kept making my PC reboot. Again... DO NOT BUY IF YOUR HARD DRIVE NEEDS MORE THAN 500mA TO OPERATE.

worked great with 0 drama. I use linux and since it wasn't listed in the online description of compatible operating systems I was worried. Value 5:it was 10$local computer store wanted 30 for a similar product Features 4:don't know what else you would need but I am sure it is missing something quality 4:think the hard drive ''feels'' loosely mounted inside of case. performance 5:worked flawlessly. Manufacturer should keep the crappy screwdriver. If a customer doesn't own a screwdriver they probably do not need to be doing this on their own. Also, the ''leather case'' is a throwaway. If those were left off the manufacturer could either make more profit or sell it for cheaper...maybe 9$ instead of 10$.

This device fails at being an effective device. Worked once, then corrupted the data. This device caused me to lose 300 dollars worth of software. DO NOT PURCHASE IT! GET A DIFFERENT ONE!

For $20 after tax and without a rebate, this is a great deal. It is a simple device and should work well, which it does. Very compact, no wasted space. Very nice look as well. This is the first 2.5'' enclosure I've ever used. I've had 2 3.5'' enclosures and they weren't reliable (different brands). So far, this enclosure has been great! I urge anyone to try it.

Hey, what do you want for $10?? But I've bought 3 of them now, and all three work flawlessly. Any time I take a drive out and upgrade I drop the old one into one of these cases.

BEWARE. DANGER in fact! Doesn't work! Don't waste your time & effort. I have 20 drives in Sabrent 3.5'' enclosures. They are good, so I expected this product to be good also. I ordered 2, with 2 new Hitachi 2.5'' drives. One unit fried its hard drive immediately. The second unit worked at first, but after a few hours, it too was dead. In the meantime, I ordered a replacement for the 1st unit. It arrived dead. Not only didn't it work, but when I plugged it into my computer, Windows immediately flashed a red warning about a current surge / overload on the USB port (at least the motherboard can protect itself, unlike my poor hard drive). One look, and you can tell that the overseas manufacturing is rock bottom cheesy. The cables were a mess too. The $10 price is good, but do yourself a favor and spend $20 for one of the other enclosures available.

I just received my drive enclosures. I checked all the enclosures that Tiger sold and checked the reviews for each. This Sabrent had the best reviews. I can see why. This is a great unit. It took less than a minute to install my 60 gig drive and after repartitioning and formating, it was ready to go. It's nice they send you the screwdriver to assemble this. I didn't need the extra USB port the cable allows you to plug into or the driver disk. And the drive never got hot, even after formatting for over an hour. And the price is right! This is definitly the one to buy!

There are two or three thicknesses of 2.5'' hard drives and this unit is built to work with the newer 8.5 and 9.5 mm drive. I likewise think this is a great deal. It took me longer to open the box than to install the drive and get it working. It works GREAT !!!

This thing saved me a lot of grief. My laptop died and will work well holding my boat in place now. This device allowed me to transfer all my tax info and other valuable information from the laptop hard drive to my desk top machine. A+

Purchased two of these enclosures. Put a 20gb drive in one and a 10gb drive in the other. Plugged into both WinXP and Linux machines and everything was recognized and ran properly first time and everytime. The case requires no cooling and it barely gets warm. Keep in mind there are two or three thicknesses of 2.5'' hard drives and this unit is built to work with the newer 8.5 and 9.5 mm drive. If you have an old 12.7mm drive....retire the poor thing and put it out of it's misery since it is low capacity only good as a paperweight! I would recommend these to anyone who has laptop drives sitting around and would like to put them back to work.

Bought one of these last month and I am very pleased. I plan to buy two more. 3 minutes out of the package and plugged into USB port on desktop. Who can ask for more? And I like the nice little thin leather case that it comes with, nice touch. I am a great fan of flash drives, but for ten bucks I now have portable 40 gig storage. Great for doing mundane tasks like Exchange Server backups. Thanks Sarbent and Tiger :)

Comment:
For the price quite a good drive enclosure. The system may require the use of two USB ports to provide enough power to the hard drive; my drives however only required 1 port. Some people have complained that Sabrent missed the USB spec’s and used a port-A connector for the enclosure. I believe this was done because a more common port-B style connector would have been thicker than the drive enclosure defeating the “super slim” goal. I personally don’t care as long as the device works. Which it has so far. I would give this device 5 starts however the enclosure is longer than my drive creating some space for the hard drive to wiggle loose, I have fixed this problem by adding some static-safe foam to end of the case. Thus I give the drive enclosure 4 out of 5.

Bought a Sabrent 2.5 inch USB 2.0 Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure to copy a 20GB 4200 rpm to a 80GB 5400 rpm hard drive using Casper XP 3.0. Worked like a charm!

I bought 6 of the units. Every one worked perfectly and the hard drives were easy to install. Only an id10t would try to insert a Hard Drive that was obviously to big to fit in the case. My sytem worked with only one cable, as should most newer PCs or laptops. I have some very expensive cases that require two cables and perform no better than this one at 10 bucks. Rick Clift

A friend of mine spilled some water on his laptop and fried it. He gave it to me and I took it apart. Anyway it had a 6 gb hard drive, so I thought I could make a large ''thumb drive''. For $10 I went for it. Took maybe 2 minutes to install and Win XP picks it right up no driver required. The usb cable has 3 connectors 1 for the drive and 2 to plug into the computer. The 2 that go into the computer are 1 for connecting to the drive and the other is to power the drive if it is needed, My drive runs off just 1 plug but some bigger drives may need both. Very nice enclosure it is bigger then a thumb drive but needs no external power, and lots more storage.

Nice little enclosure, worked great using my 40 and 100 gig seagate notebook drives. I did have to use both usb plugs to get enough power for these higher capacity drives. The screws are very small for the faceplate but they are nice to include a second set of screws incase you loose one and also a little screwdriver to tighten it all up. Also has a nice little carry pouch. I think this is a great enclosure for the money. All things considered including price I give it 5 stars even though I thought the front plastic cover was a little cheap looking.
