I've purchased 5 of these - 4 are installed and running, 1 is waiting as a spare. No troubles seasoned with any of the 4 that are installed - two have been running approx 900 hrs, two have been operating approx 1300 hrs, with periodic read/write use on a 24x7 basis. Sensible self-test is fine on all 4 drives. Mine appear to common around 22C in use; I have two WD10EADS installed along with these and they common 32C in use. (They are not in exactly the same position in the case, so a direct comparison may possibly be unfair.) I haven't seen unreasonable noise from either the F2's or the WD10EADS' but they're in a total tower case with a number of fans, so they'd have to be quite noisy to stand out. None that I know of - can't even complain about the price.

To set this drive to SATA 1.5Gbps mode you have to use particular application from Samsung and burn it to a CD or place it on a *gasp* floppy disk. I have a couple of the 5400 rpm drives 1TB, and I find them very quiet and trustworthy for storage. They handle transferring downloads from one particular laptop or computer to another incredibly well. They never ever seem to get hot. It failed on the initial power cycle.This had replaced a failed WD Caviar WD5000AAKS. WD has adequate top quality manage for its drives to last a month beyond the warranty period (exactly).
