Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:Slow write speeds
Pros:Cheap price per GBQuick reads Comment:
Bought this to put into a budget home/office PC for the O/S and office. It does have the typical quick read times, but writes are a bit on the slower side. For the price, and what it is intended for a good deal |

Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:Some problems with Ubuntu 12.04 lts.
Pros:Great performance, great deal for the $/go. Comment:
I use this SSD with linux Ubuntu 12.10. It run really fast and stable so far. I had problems when installing Ubuntu 12.04 lts. If you want to use linux, your better to install the lastest release if you want it to support your new SSD. I've tested Ubuntu 12.10, Manjaro 0.8.4 (Arch linux based), and it is perfect. I did not try Windows 7, but it should work very well. As expected. |

Got this for $99, that puts it under $1/gb. Well worth it! |

Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:-TLC(low write speeds, lower cell endurance)
Pros:-Fast boot-Affordable-Enough storage space Comment:
Windows 7 boots up quickly, as is to be expected with any of the recent SSDs. It was a good buy at $95. The 840 256GB was a better purchase, in terms of $/GB, but using this drive for the OS and programs, there is ample space. All other media is placed on a traditional hard drive, where read and write performance are not as crucial.TLC flash is slower(most notably in the write speeds) than SLC and MLC, as well as having lower cell endurance, but is cheaper to produce.Having any of the current SSDs with enough capacity for your OS and programs will provide a noticeable performance increase from a hard drive. Most users will not notice the drop-off in performance from this SSD and the 840 Pro version. Getting this instead of the 840 Pro was money well saved to put into the 2 TB hard drive I got for storage purposes. |

Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:Untested tech.
Pros:Great value. Comment:
So far so good. It's fast and it hasn't caused any issues. The price is right because of the inexpensive flash memory used in the drive. But, we'll have to see how this new style of drive works in the long term... |

Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5in SATA3 Mdx Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
Cons:- Write speed (about 130 MB/s), but ... read on.
Pros:- Performance - Seq and 4K-64Thrd Read- Stupid low access times- Lower power- Samsung reliability- Samsung 3-Core MDX controller- AES 256-bit Encryption- Samsung Magician software for SSD control (Optimization and Secure Erase, Over Provisioning, etc...)- Windows 8 installed without a hitch.- SSD, what else can you say? Comment:
I have read so many reviews on the net about this SSD, and to be honest, I really don't know what they are talking about, after having one in my hands. The reviewers make it seem as though this drive should almost be avoided, or opt for the PRO version.Well, let me tell you something, this drive is AWESOME!It's so much faster than my Corsair F60 60GB (Sata 2), and my Intel 520 60GB (Sata 3); I had even put them in RAID 0 for better performance under Sata 3. But STILL, the Samsung 840 came out on top (Yes, you can RAID 0 different drives).I too was worried about the TLC memory rather than the MLC, but, how many drives of this caliber still have a 3 year warranty? I change drives every 2 or 3 years and won't even make it that far before I buy another one (evidenced by the F60 and 520 which, FTR, have been used extensively, and still show 100% usability).Where this SSD shines, is the 4K-64Thrd benchmark. At 285 MB/s, it clearly outperforms the RAID 0 setup at 175MB/s. I would have never thought you could feel the difference, but you can. I thought my system was snappy before with the 520, then the RAID 0, but now, it's even snappier ... almost like it's evolved into a subzero crisp ... LOL.I did setup the over provisioning, which takes 11.1 GB from the drive. In the end, I have 100.1 useable GBs, which is more than what I needed. Unfortunately, the 64GB would fill up with windows and my installed software (and to think all my data is stored on my Caviar Blacks - Docs, Pics, Music, Steam and Origin).I can finally install all my software, and not have to worry about installing to a second drive (takes about 72GB).Now, about the 130 MB/s write speeds. More than 95% of the time, you will be reading from the drive; at more than 530MB/s, and 285 MB/s on the 4K-64Thrd, not to mention the IOPS that I didn't talk about (86,000), this drive is a steel for $100, delivered to my door.Once the software has been installed from my Caviar Blacks, that can only read at LESS than 130MB/s anyway, the writing is non issue. What makes my system even crispier, other than the 840, is using the Intel 520 as a cache drive for my 1TB Caviar Black, on the Z77 chipset using Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I was delightfully surprised at how well the cache drive works; never knew BF3 could be loaded so quickly.Once again, I'm very happy with the 840, and, thank you NCIX for delivering right to my door, in 2 days. Peace |

Pros:Light, fast, reliable Comment:
Purchased this unit instead of OCZ that was given me problems (read failures even though I reinstalled the firmware 3 times). Works fine, very light and thinner than other SSD. Would recommend for normal usage. Took it on sale :) |
If you are looking for a cheap and reliable ssd then get this, it is 100% better than a hdd.
