Seagate Expansion 2TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Comment:
Looks fantastic. It is modest and compact. Doesn't have the ability to tip over or fall off of a desk like some of the upright external tricky drive form aspects. The computer software is on the drive but you don't have to install it, which assists simply because some other manufacturers don't enable you to get rid of or opt out of their computer software. It functions but it has some issues. At any random moment it will start clicking and all transfers to the drive or from the drive quit. It will refuse to eject at this point and continue clicking endlessly till you either pull the usb cable out of the personal computer or shut down your computer by holding down the power button. It also crashes Windows or at least makes windows stop responding. I would say that while this need to have been a good drive, the whole issue was ruined by inconsistent performance and hardware/software glitches. Seagate has been overextending themselves sacrifices quantity more than top quality. I don't want there to be twenty various versions of external drives from Seagate. They ought to concentrate on releasing a smaller number of drives that are quickly and dependable and stop pushing new designs into the market when they aren't even needed. I have a Freeagent Pro 1 TB tricky drive from a couple years ago and it is fantastic. In no way had a issue and they stopped making them in favor of a new version. I'm not sure why they stopped making a drive that worked.

Low cost - if that's in fact a pro..... I've had ten of these in the 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB capacity - all of them run way also hot to be used for much more than a short period of time. Of the ten I began with, 4 have failed fully. Do not stack these babies or they will get so hot they melt their personal situations.

Drive does precisely what it is supposed to do. Runs a bit warm, but far from hot - I am content with the low level of heat from it. Perhaps a bit slow, but not a massive difficulty. Only notice this when accessing music on drive through iTunes. I hate other drives that put themselves to sleep. This drive does not do that. The last WD drive I owned would place itself to sleep and the only way to wake it up was to unplug it and plug it back in. This seems like 1 of the dumbest features in the planet to me.

Full size hard drive, lots of space, and finest of all... 4 handy rubber feet to preserve your workplace papers from flying away when you have to resort to employing it as an overpriced paperweight. Woke up 1 morning to hear the drive in full spin and generating a suspicious grinding-like noise. Booted up the laptop and dmesg reports IO failure at Sector . Drive does some clicking for a minute and spins down. Very same factor when connected by means of sata internally (boy was it satisfying to snap the case open and send plastic shards flying through the air, remember to wear eye protection folks). Appear at the completely stellar evaluations for the Seagate ST32000542AS drive which you will locate inside this piece of junk [sarcasm]. A single egg evaluation is as well generous. Lost all my vacation and loved ones pictures for the last 3 years. Even though I location the blame solely on me for this loss, and having should have identified greater to use a far more redundent set-up for valuable information, i can't enable but direct my scorn at some thing failing for absolutely nothing getting been done to it. I bought this drive more than a Western Digital to conserve ฤ. I ought to have bought the WD. a brand which in 14 years and easily over 40 technique builds for buddies, household, and myself surpassing the 80 count mark have never ever the moment failed me. This Seagate failed from becoming left on my desk overnight. Meanwhile I have a 30gb WD in a server in the basement which in the final years i have found on the floor lord know how many occasions from a 6 foot drop since of a curious cat. Mayhaps my expectations are too high.

It functions. I knew when I bought it, it would be slow mainly because of the two. connection, but not that sllooowww. To back up 2TB or even close to that through USB 2., begin it just before bedtime or going to operate. Then hope no errors pop up though you're away. If you are fortunate, you will have your backup in half a day.I opened up an additional brand's external USB & removed the HD & hooked it directly to my technique. Complete HD speed, but instant warranty void. USB three is right here, I suggest waiting for it or comparable quickly connection, otherwise massive backups mean you far better have lots of no cost time.Need to you want to recover making use of this large backup, hope you have another half day or much more to restore it or what you want off it. Babysitting the transfer either way might drive you to madness by boredom.

Hmmmmmm... let me consider..... price tag? With this drive, that's all that comes to mind. It worked for about a week then came the horribly loud "clicket-clackety"!! Immediately after that it sputtered through reads and writes. Perhaps I just got the a single bad one particular in the shipment... then again, perhaps not. I've generally trusted the name SEAGATE til now... soon after this expertise, I will not make any assumptions based on the brand name.

Product is specifically as described, a 2TB HDD housed in an external USB 2. enclosure with a devoted power provide. It arrived formatted in NTFS along with some pre-loaded Seagate tools (I performed a surface test to make sure the drive was not poor). Drive runs relatively quiet. Heat is within acceptable limits for any HDD. Seek and Read times are rather rapid as are write instances. Correctly spins down to save power Spin-up instances are rather lengthy.Producing a fairly audible knocking which was not there initially soon after obtain.Other sounds in it's arrangement include: low chirp-like sounds, achievable clicking, and fairly considerably each other sound indicative of a drive possibly preparing to fail. I wish it had produced these sounds in the initial 30 days of purchase as opposed to the first 30 months and I wouldn't have to figure out how I'm going to move the data presently stored.I hope the drive does not fail, but it honestly is giving the indication that it could. With that said, I personally have no means by which to transfer the present 1.4TiB of information from it to yet another drive. If a drive such as this which I (at the time) paid what I think about to be a fantastic deal of funds for what was at the time, a rather very rated drive amongst it's competition, is all set to potentially fail before it even completes 3ǚ of it's initial year of service and is not even dealt heavy usage (light at very best) then there is no way I can, in fantastic conscience, advocate the purchase of this drive to anybody else.

low-cost Most of the difficulties you read about in the other evaluations clicking and so on. can be solved by two adjustments to prevalent behavior/equip. The following was reccommended by Seagate Support1. get a USB cable with a choke. 2. do not run this drive near your laptop or computer or other EM device... get it as far away as doable. This is supposed to prevent interference with the controllers. That becoming said... I am the network manager at the museum I operate for. We bought many of these points to supplement our data backup strategy... negative move. It has been my encounter that once you turn your back these items, they are accomplished... which means dead... corrupted... paperwieghts. Confident they dont click... but they still die & and die often... DO NOT Get ... please... for humanities sake... post this everywhere these units are sold... These two drives have cost me dozens of hours of diagnostics, packaging for return, unpacking "new" replacements (refurbs)... and Countless HOURS of be concerned.I am essentially hoping an email to Newegg will still let me get my organization's funds back...

Inexpensive external drive. 2TB for about ๠ now. I got three of the these. The hd clicks all the time especially close to other hardware (due to interference?) When it is clicking the harddrive is entirely useless. The only remedy by Seagate for warranty service is to send one more junkie drive, but it is gonna price you the shipping and time. If you have to purchase one particular, get a Western Digital Components instead for extra ฤ. It is properly worth it.

It was inexpensive. But now we know why. Quickly appropriate off the bat it started to have the dreadful click concern. When the challenging drive clicks, it slows down. Also the style for the ventilation is horrible--it's pointed downward, and the drive turns as well hot to deal with. The design in this challenging drive is flawed beyond all belief. The only way it appears to stay even remotely operable is to mount the tough drive at about a sixtyish degree angle to prevent the platter and heads from clicking as generally. You can get some use out of it then. I really should have realized that when Seagate gave me negative drives when I was a teenager they'd give me bad drives all my life. By no means getting Seagate once more.

None I got this drive about ten days ago and utilised it as my time machine drive. I reformatted my laptop or computer and I am glad that it didn't fail just before I transferred all the facts back to my macbook. It began clicking through video playback and then the video stopped playing. Its absolutely dead right after such a brief time. You get what you pay for.

Cheap... I suppose. But with storage, you get what you pay for. Purchased 1 of these from a retail store yesterday, but felt it is critical to mention it right here anyway. Drive began doing the click of death much less than 24 hrs following powering up, right after I copied files to it. Nonetheless working for now, but is finding returned tomorrow.ObservationsɅ. The power provide has more Chinese than English on it and has a slot for Chinese prongs.2. The drive assembly feels unusually flimsy.3. The Seagate command-line utility reports the drive's manufacturer as Seagate, but provides the serial number of ŗ". I smell a counterfeit. It is not unlikely. Go to seagate.com and get their seatools plan to check the serial number of the enclosure and the drive, and then use the internet form to verify the warranty status on the serial number.

This drive has taken every little thing ive thrown at it, the minute i set it up, it was becoming employed heavily, i plugged it in, and transferred 1tb of data, and considering that then it has worked beautifully. None, i have never had a difficulty with this drive. I have a couple of other seagate externals, and every 1 has been a champ. i stopped buying WD since they began adding EFI partitions that are no longer compatible with both mac and Computer. This drive is great!

Quite excellent deal : high-capacity, in low value. 3 days of use. I'm asking a refund, since of Ʌ> Every single ten minutes my laptop or computer pops up "auto-play" on this device. two> It does not turn-off when I shut down my pc. This device still on although my computer system off. (Power saver/idle doesn't operate). I'm entirely dissapointed with this initially obtain on NewEgg. Purchased on 贍.9, then have to ask refund with re-stocking fee 15% on ภ.50 plus shipped back to NewEgg for ผ.60. You know what? I've lost pretty much ฮ on this junk. So, who's to blame??? Manufacturer/retailer/customer? I do not advise for you to purchase this item. What a waste? Waste my time and cash also. And for NewEgg, you have to mention that client has to spend for returned shipping too. I've lost my credential on you, NewEgg..

Lots of storage space and really portable! Not crazy about the Seagate Dashboard Computer software included on the drive. Have to purchase a license to run backup. Ran great on XP, kept showing up as unrecognizable on Windows 7. Had to reformat the drive, which took almost 24 hours, and so far no difficulties. Get rid of the Mimeo Software program.

At the time that I had bought this drive the low price tag was a plus. After using this drive for a couple of months it began making a loud clunking noise. A few weeks immediately after that I decided that I would save all my information on an additional drive just in case. Too late, the drive began giving error messages and I lost all my files before I had a opportunity to salvage anything. I have bought about ten Seagate external drives over the years without having a single mishap and I often suggested them to good friends. On the other hand, now I wouldn't touch a Seagate with a ten foot pole.

I have had the unit more than a year with no issues or difficulties. It runs at USB 2. speeds and has enormous capacity, so it will take a though to transfer gigs of storage, but it seems a true function horse. It is so large that if you have USB three. it would be worth getting a USB 3. drive for the added speed.
