Seagate Expansion 2TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Comment:
Hey, this drive is operating fine for me, and can't let a poor apple spoil the whole barrel of folks looking for major backup or archive service. It's a smaller format, quiet and ready-to-go, Affordable External HD, and 2 TB is a huge amount of space for below 贄.I don't regret buying it at all, and am thinking of obtaining another one when required. No cons for me, I use it off an external powerstrip, and preserve it off until I switch it on, do my backup and then take it off the desktop again. That way, it's only on when I'm operating with it. Did I say, 2TB for below 贄. Assume about that, ddl fans.

Absolutely Absolutely nothing. Lasted long enough for me to copy 1TB of data to it, began clicking. Presently copying information to one more tough drive, hoping it'll reside long sufficient to get the data off... I work as a computer repair technician and I've noticed this click of death several occasions just before. It's trigger by the heads hitting a little piece of plastic that separates and holds the heads as they come off the platters. Normally the the plastic wears down more than time, on the other hand my troubles started right after several hours of use. This leads me to believe that this is a manufacturing / design issue. I will by no means buy a Seagate tough drive once more.

Lots of space, quiet, sleek case No on/off switch, but I haven't identified that to be a difficulty. As mentioned in other evaluations, it's a bit sensitive to which USB cable you use. I'm employing a cable with a choke on it from my GPS. I had this operating on a Windows XP machine for about 8 months with no complications. It's now running on a Windows 7 64-bit machine working properly, but I had to perform out one concern. Under Windows 7, the drive would go to sleep and not wake up. Even rebooting the Computer would not get it back. The Computer and the drive each necessary to be power cycled in order to restore functionality. Windows 7's USB Selective Suspend function requirements to be disabled for this drive to perform 100% effectively. The Selective Suspend, for whatever cause, was jamming up the drive so that it wouldn't wake up. Due to the fact I've disabled that, this drive has been operating flawlessly.

none Very first drive failed with a usb issue. Replacement failed with a clicking sound. I'm guessing by the other critiques on there that this drive has Severe style flaws. I will by no means buy another Seagate drive as lengthy as I live. This buy Expense me cash since I had to send it back twice to NewEgg and I'm out ษ. In truth, NewEgg really should stop selling this drive quickly.

CLICKING CLICKING.. over and more than.. even when drive is idle... just a matter of time just before failure-- I sent this back immediately!! I read the critiques ahead of I ordered it, and believed- "Maybe those were isolated incidents.. I go ahead an order this".. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID- DO NOT ORDER THIS -- get one more manufacturer's drive....

I have used it to backup my internal tough disks four times. They all went smooth. The power saving feature is operating. I can hear the drive wakes up from hibernation. only four weeks, i have not met any issues but. Could be additional convenient if the backup software coming with the drive is a totally free version.

Worked out of the box. It came formatted (No need to have to format drive) and fairly quick. It stored 70GB of information in about 1Hr or less. No ON/OFF button, so right after done employing it, I have to manually turn the surge-protector bay switch the device is connected to OFF. Seagate could slap ON/OFF button on the device, but hey we all smoke every now and then, no one is great. But I'll take two entire eggs for that. I don't want my backup device running 24ǝ; I want it to stay off when I'm not employing it.

Nothing superior about this drive for the MAC - seriously - don't acquire for your MAC. Can't comment on how it works for windows. I purchased two of these drives for two separate MACS. On every machine I immediately began finding errors that it improperly ejects - and that continues various occasions Each and every hour. Very annoying! A quick google search will show you this in not just me, but frequent challenge for these drives with MAC computers What's a lot more, one of the two failed within the initially week! I spoke to seagate - they basically say "too bad". They have no drivers or fix, but "the drive works", so you have no recourse. They know about the problem, admit it's the wrong drive for MAC, but won't help you even although their internet site says it is supported on MAC. To them, the reality that it holds information is all that matters - and by the way they are sorry about all those eject errors but there is genuinely nothing they can do about it due to the fact it is "working". This drive is also large (physically), and has a separate power cord. I saw mixed critiques just before obtaining. Must have listened to the negative evaluations - don't acquire this drive for your mac laptop or computer!!!!

I was worried about the "click of death" some people reported, but so far no difficulties. Drive installs with out unique drivers - plug it in and it works. Lots of storage in an effortless-to-add external drive. Slow, but USB external is. However, I let the pc put it to sleep and it is slow to wake. Had a problem booting my ASUS motherboard with it plugged in - it would hang in POST. Went in the BIOS and shut off legacy USB support - everything works fine now. If you just want to store a big amount of stuff that you won't use generally or use this as a backup drive, and that's its intended purpose, it's great. It loses 1 egg for slow wakeup and hanging my mobo.

It's got plenty of space and does the job. It's bigger than I expected. It tends to be noisy and it takes a couple of seconds for the drives to spin down. If you're looking for portability, don't get this drive. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a way to backup your entire hdd or home network, I would strongly advise this. I don't see why there are so many negative critiques on this. I've had it for about a week and a half now. Not sure about the transfer rate. But I wish it had USB 3.

Don’t want to lose your data, then don’t be so dam lazy. Most of you don’t run DLT backups for your home data and entrust a single drive with your precious information. The tendency is when you purchase a new difficult drive is to dump all your information on it and go about your day, that is exactly what you need to NOT do. When you get a new tough drive internal or external, save off the garbage software program that is installed on the drive and reformat it, (Full Format) NOT fast format and then beat on it for a week or so, use the HD_Tune 15 day demo (http://www.hdtune.com/download.html) and read and write to the drive for a week or so, bear in mind to turn off and on the drive a couple of times throughout this break-in period. If you can’t be troubled with all this work then merely copy a bunch of information to the drive, copy and paste the same thing more than and over, what you want to do is too over stress the drive in the course of warrantee. Keep reading BTW- user (cgrinds) has given you the component of the puzzle to makes this drive work appropriately, but all of the quotes right after his response mention absolutely nothing of his findings and simply rehash the fact that the automatic sleep function is breaking the drive. (cgrinds) has told us download the Seagate software (http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/software/FreeAgentCN.zip) and turn off the auto-sleep function and then the drive will NOT start and quit every 10 minutes and fry the drive simply because the drive need additional power than the energy supply can create and the below-wattage (Brown-out) is frying the drive.

Cost at the time, despite the fact that I didn't acquire it from NewEgg, had to obtain locally...Sorry!!! I tried to transfer video files from an old drive (WD 500 GB External) to this one and it began to click and make noises pretty much immediately!!! So far it hasn't failed but, it's beginning to pause between every single use...I've unplugged it and I'm seeking for a replacement prior to it entirely fails. With 2TB of memories and photos, it's not worth getting inexpensive...I thought that Seagate would be reliable but I was incredibly incorrect!!! Almost everything I've read about these drives says, remain away from them...Be WARNED!!!

Great Space for Price No Power Switch I baught two of these and havn't had a difficulty. You just want to be aware of when you are not useing it and turn it off. Otherwise you are going to wear out the drive. Just "safely eliminate hardware", and shut off. Too straightforward.

Inexpensive Doesn't work on some PCs. All my PCs and Laptops are running Windows 7 Pro. It came correct up on my laptop, can’t see it on my Dell Dimension 9200 till I disable USB boot from the BIOS, can’t see it at all on my Dell Inspiron 530 and there’s no selection in the 530 BIOS to disable the USB boot. The intriguing factor is that it works on VMs in my Dell Inspiron 530, I can connect it to VM and it shows in VM with out any issue, when I disconnect it from the VM, the host nonetheless not able to see it.Don’t buy this if you are planning to use it on somewhat old (three years) PCs

I have no problems with this but I don't have it running continuously either. I'd say when a week I turn it on and backup several gigs of data on it. I have completed a challenging drive check on it when I very first got it and it was fine. none I wonder if the individuals that have difficulties with this have it running continually?

Works nicely. The warranty on newegg says three years. This is not true. It is really two years from manufacturing date, which truly translates to about 1 1ǘ years from now, and Seagate employed to provide five year warranties which tells me they no longer trust their product.
