Vantec Nexstar 3 External 2.5IN eSATA Black Hard Drive Enclosure USB2.0

Comment:
I'm utilizing this case with the 640 gig Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD6400BEVT. The case is really excellent and stays cool and quiet with this drive. I use this enclosure on HP HDX16 laptop with dual boot to Vista and Ubuntu. The USB function functions specifically as expected in both environments.The esata function operates beautifully In Ubuntu. The drive has to be mounted manually immediately after boot but does not have to be disconnected for a reboot. The esata In Vista hasn't done properly at all and I can't get a satisfactory connection but. If connected before booting the laptop takes completely five to six minutes to come up. If connected soon after reboot explorer will frequently creash; device manager can't realize the drive. I'm suspecting a thing to do with the energy saving characteristics of the drive but haven't got it figured out however. The carrying case is quite good but IMO the cables are junk. I spent a different ษ getting superior ones. I'm am going to get yet another case to use with the 320 gig Western Digital Scorpio Black.

The case is incredibly nice and sturdy, came with cool goodies, carrying case, eSATA cable and eSATA pci slot adapter. Each factor functions good no troubles however. The case is really sleek and shinny, finger prints are a pain in the you know what. I just hold it in the carrying case at all occasions. I got me a retractable USB cable and just leave it in it at all time. operates fantastic, except the cable expense almost as significantly as the case.

Compact, Excellent Looking, Rugged, Cools Effectively, Nice Carrying Case, USB & eSATA interfaces and operates extremely effectively. Connecting some eSATA cables to the eSATA connector can be tough. We have numerous of these for transporting data and they have worked nicely for us.There appears to be some mis-understanding about the function of the added connector on the USB cable. It is a pass-thru connector that is utilised to offer energy only when using the eSATA interface (which is significantly more quickly).(You use each the USB and eSATA cables. On the other hand, if you use the normal USB connector rather than the pass-thru, the enclosure will operate in USB mode even if the eSATA cable is attached.)You can also use a USB power adapter or normal 5v adapter to offer eSATA power.

-Gets the job performed.-You get a lot of stuff for the income-Fantastic heat transfer-Appealing style -Cheaper develop than my Vantec CX enclosure-Fingerprint magnet I bought this solution at a nearby shop simply because I needed to transfer some files and could not wait a week. It works just fine but it seems really fragile. Evaluate to my Vantec CX 3.5" enclosure, this thing is flimsy. The way the enclosure appears and feels as if it have been made of glass does not aid. It also makes use of affordable plastic for the front and back. You do even so get a lot of stuff for the income. The package consists of an eSATA bracket for older computer systems, an eSATA cable, a USB cable to energy it and/or use in USB mode, and a nice carrying case. The carrying case will only fit the USB cable and will not close if you try to cram the eSATA cable in it (the USB cable is necessary to energy it). I give it a fourǛ simply because even although the package is nice, the enclosure is a small on the flimsy side and Vantec provides the much more robust CX series.

Appears excellent, by no means gets to hot. Performs good with my WD320. Gets tight if you try to fit USB and an eSata cable in the case with the HD. I didn't like the Y-USB cable that was integrated.

I purchased this drive to put my old really hard drive from my laptop into since I was replacing it. Easy install, Power over USB, can use USB for power and ESATA for information. None Comes with screws for case out so be careful removing from box.

I really like anything about this enclosure. Great for backup, information, music, etc. Pairs effectively with an SSD. Comes with SATA cable (another brand, I'm certain, might gyp you). Case does not hold cables, and integrated USB cable is as well long and goofy. 1 problem: I want SATA, and I want it on the go. I want a 3-six foot cable, SATA and USB with each other, or far better but, SATA+USB. Laptops all have this now. No enclosures do. Silly!I recommend either a SATA+USB port on the back, or a split cable. Note that this drive WILL (yes it will) run with USB-to-USB and SATA-to-SATA (or to SATA+USB). It just appears further goofy with two cables (one way longer than the other, with further dangles flopping about), attempting to do stuff at the airport. They may well arrest me!What is SATA+USB? A shared port form method that delivers USB energy to a SATA port.

Though I haven't employed the eSATA port yet, and in all probability will not, the USB side works like I expected to - backing up my docked laptops and to move files among my machines at perform and residence. Operates nicely.The carrying case is valuable though the supplied screwy USB cable requires deft packing. Missing Power Cable... It says in Vantec web website a power cable is integrated, and it says in the docs inside the box a power cable is included, but I didn't get a single. I challenge anyone to discover a appropriate energy cable for this device... I haven't discovered one however. Don't know if the lack of a energy cable is going to result in any difficulties whilst my laptops are running off the battery... I sent Vantec an email asking for a energy cable, but they haven't responded soon after 5 days.The supplied USB cable, effectively, I threw it in my useless cables box and purchased a normal cable with a mini connector. The cable is bulky... Vantec, bear in mind KISS! With what I paid for this device (cost + shipping + new USB cable + effort to uncover a Energy cable), I will NOT buy an additional Vantec unit, and will go back to a Macally unit of one sort or one more. My Macally IDE two.5 HD unit is durable and has been operating for numerous years with out any complications. The HD I installed was a 160 GB Seagate ST9160821AS... match perfectly. Runs cool all day and combined, very quiet.

Really sleek design, nearly as major as the tricky drive itself. Very solid feeling and a quite extended USB cable. Wish there was a way to turn off that annoying blue light. I've had a couple of of these enclosures from the 3.5" version to the PATA 2.five" version. I love them. Vantec makes strong stuff.

Small, effortless set up, consists of situation/cables. Like a 5v energy adapter may have been great for eSATA This drive saved my life. In a pinch, I was capable to use a knife to unscrew the screws, install a new hd genuine speedy, and copy some files I needed the next day before a flight. Incredibly uncomplicated to use and extremely straightforward to set up. None Worked wonderful with my Inspirion 1505. Was bought to retrieve info from a HDD that had died. Enclosure was recognized inside seconds of connection and worked quite smoothly.

Good style, build good quality is way increased than other enclosures. Involves eSATA cable, USB and zippered case. eSATA does not operate with my Dell Studio 1737 laptop. It functions on all my other systems. May well be the laptop, USB performs fine. Zippered case can not fit eSATA and USB cable at the same time. USB cable has the 2nd connector for further energy, the cable sticks out of the side generating it difficult/impossible to plug something else in with a side by side USB configuration.Driver disk is a mini cd and will not function with my slot loading drive on my laptop. Could not find ANY info on the website with regards to a external power adapter. It has the jack for 1 and it would be good to free of charge up my USB ports when working with eSATA.

Looks nice The SATA internal connection will not connect with my 2.five Sata tough drive. Both are 3Gbps so dont know what the issue is.

Excellent style maximizes cooling though searching good. Transfers are fast each approaches. Comes with anything you need. None. Don't listen to whinny butts. For sparcv9 and other people who have written testimonials under who claim a "High" tech level, they are not asking if you are "High" all the time! The USB cable IS the power cable. That is why it has the second USB pigtail for the added energy if required. If I had been Vantec, I wouldn't respond to your trash either.

Great to have USB + eSATA connectivity and optional DC input. none thus far Installed a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320 GB drive for expanding my PS3 capacity. Drive fits well and runs smooth & quite. Doubt I will have any cooling concern w/aluminum casing. Drive runs off 1 USB port energy.

Got it, good seeking enclosure, seems to have excellent heat transfer, all cables, screws. Setup in less than 5 minutes. Detected right away. It doesn't sleep with me. Man, you guys are harsh critics. the eSata cable a lot of length. installation, a breeze. Detected immediatly, in SATA mode. ran HD Tune, speeds comparable to my 500G 7200 internal. No where close to the SSD, but what can you anticipate? I don't notice the housing getting smudged. The carrying case is nice, separate compartments for each SATA and USB cables. USB operates fantastic for energy, certain it's an extra cable, but it presents an extension and you still have 1 with the 5v power brick. Except you want a plug for that.The LED blinks only when getting accessed, not genuinely vibrant at all. Probably I got the subsequent generation and the vendor listened to all of you. If so, w00t for me and absolutely everyone else from this point on. You shouldn't be disappointed.

Wonderful case for the cash! I threw in my Wester Digital 320 gig in it and it worked with no difficulties! Came with a a usb cable, eSATA cable, carrying situation and a eSATA addon card for your residence pc! None truly. I had a 320GB SimpleTech USB 2. external drive that lost it's 2. capabilities and would only work in 1. mode. I also had a buddy that had the 500GB version of the SimpleTech and it did the similar factor. I took the drive straight out of the SimpleTech situation and installed it into this case with no loss of data.

Attractive. Has eSata. Comes with eSata cable. Sturdy USB cable. No external energy expected. Sturdy construction. Slightly annoying, none of my USB ports are underpowered so possessing the extra aspect to the cable is a tad annoying but this strategy is a lot nicer than the option acquiring a separate cable.

Gorgeous black finish. Effortless to set up. eSATA and USB. Wonderful little carry case to hold almost everything. Doesn't come with a 5v power solution other than the 'y' USB cable, even although it does have a 5v round energy port. The eSATA internal/external adapter's cord is about 17", in situation any person desires to know. I put a 160GB WD hard drive in it. My P5W DH can power it up with any usual USB cable, but my nForce2 can't even power it up with both usb plugs attached. I have to use a 5v usb power wart to get it to operate with that personal computer. (nForce2 had really weak USB power.) YMMV. I second the problem of obtaining a laptop with usb ports on both sides of the laptop, and the 'y' split being just barely lengthy enough to work.

This thing looks wonderful and is very sturdy. Performs perfectly. The aluminum does its job and the tight fit of the drive inside enables for great heat seperation. Comes with a nice case that will essentially fit 2 of them if you take the cables out. None so far. I have a matching 3.five" Vantec enclosure and they are a great match. Not actually a pro or con, but the LED on both are Quite vibrant.

Great enclosure, incredibly effectively made. Functions like it's supposed to. none so far Read THE Guidelines! In order to use the eSATA port you have to also use the USB port on the enclosure. It draws energy to spin the difficult drive from the USB cable and transfers the Data through the eSATA cable.

sleek, stylish, direct esata, lightup led, poweres 7200rpm drives on usb will need to set up drivers, drivers do not perform with windows vista or 7! i place a western digital WD1600BEVT - OEM in it. powered up fine

Comes with a truly nice bag. stopped operating soon after a handful of month, will attempt to spin up the drive but fails with couple of clicking noise. I always use two usb connections but apparently it could not supply adequate power. I RMA the internal drive pondering that was the issue but the replacement does the identical factor. Hookup directly to motherboard and the replacement drive functions fine... Not sure what happened there soon after a couple of months. Will try receiving a ac adapter and see if that aids...

Straightforward to set up the difficult drive, light isn't that blinding. I am incredibly dumb when it comes to computer issues and I figured it out and have it working. None seriously You might want to use 2 USB ports, but it does come with eSATA as well.
