Fantastic excellent, sturdy, rapid install. Comes with a nice small carrying case with a pouch for the enclosure to fit in. Functions off of one USB slot and powers drive well. The USB cable is tedious and bulky.I recommend utilizing an additional USB Cable without having two ends. Functions good on my WD2500BEVS 250GB Challenging Drive. These enclosures operate nicely with 1 USB cable if the drive demands less than 1 amp. Works good on my MacBook Pro!

Easy install; speed of eSATA ; convenience of USB and its ubiquity when necessary None I use a portable difficult drive to shuffle files from work and household; close to a 100GB. It took me all of five minutes to mount a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 ST9200420AS 200GB 7200 RPM Notebook Hard Drive in this enclose and I was up and running. Because the enclosure utilizes USB for power, there's no power brick to carry. I get the positive aspects of the 3.0Gb/s eSATA connection in typical use. But if I will need to connect the drive to a Computer that doesn't have a eSATA port, the USB information access is a great fall back, and delivers acceptable efficiency.The case does get a little warm; but given that the case itself is the heatsink to cool the drive, that's expected. I stand mine up rather than lay it flat so there's more air flow about the case. Highly advised

Properly created, every single bit as solid as I expected for the value. I've gone inexpensive ahead of and been unhappy afterwards. If you want one thing that will hold up, this is one to take into account. none It ran warm to the touch with the 500 GB drive I put in it to clone my laptop drive, but now that the old drive is in it, not so warm. Much better a warm case than an over heated drive. The Y cable has a passthough on 1 end, so you can use it for some thing else that doesn't require power, I guess.

Compact, decent seeking, feels durable, has eSATA. The screws and mounting inside the drive could be a bit greater, but it hasn't triggered an issue... while mine just sits on a desktop so it isn't likely to break. Purchased this as a easy and not horribly ugly drive case to hold an OWC SSD that's connected through eSATA to my Hex Core Mac Pro. It works wonderful, no difficulties and for the value I think it's a fairly nice small package.

Appearance, interface possibilities and ease of installation. External power provide not provided. I bought this enclosure with a 160GB Western Digital Scorpio ATA 150. I was a bit worried at first right after hearing about compatibility issues with other drives but this couldn't have been a lot easier. I only employed the USB interface so you'll have to get somebody else's opinion about the eSATA operation but the USB interface has worked flawlessly. It's also 1 of the nicest seeking instances I've observed. The only factor I would warn about is sitting the drive in an upright (vertical) position. The so called desktop mount is built into the case but the slightest jostle will send the thing slamming onto it's side. Just lay it down flat and save oneself some aggravation.

Popped in an old two.five laptop drive, tightened four drive screws, two case screws, plugged in USB and eSATA, worked perfectly first time. Seems quicker than my laptop drive. For the cost, excellent value. as others have said, this is a fingerprint magnet and the case barely holds the drive and both cables. and I got a totally free eSATA bracket for my subsequent build. Superb shipping from NewEgg. 1 pet peeve, NewEgg, take out Tech Knowlege, I genuinely don't care (and my very first personal computer was an Osborne Executive :-)

This enclosure is very nicely built; just like any Vantec enclosure I've owned in the past. Vantec has included a really good overall package for which consists of a eSATA bracket, eSATA cable, USB cable, and a carrying bag. This item package offers a high value for the asking cost. Extremely recommended. The manual was not properly documented in some parts; however, I believe any 1 can figure out how to work/install this enclosure with no the help of manual.

Quicker speeds than USB. I throw all my digital copy movies on the drive and occasionally with my old enclosure working with the USB I would get a small hiccup simply because of USB limitations. With SATA, you don't have to worry about that. Not truly a con...Cables are 3ft which is excellent for hooking up to a desktop but not a laptop. With a laptop your on the go with limited space and a 1 or 1.five inch cables would have been good. Even though it is supplied with a SATA to eSATA bracket for your desktop personal computer, I nonetheless use my PCI-e to eSATA expansion card and all is properly. Laptop, desktop laptop each work well with this enclosure and drive. Just a word of tips. If you're going to use the eSATA you will need to have to energy it using a USB cable or you can obtain a energy supply for it, as it does have a 5v mini pin port for it. Not too positive but you may want to check out requirements if you're going to use a 160gb drive or lower, as I have been seeing other reviews on the JM chipset not getting compatible with lower volume drives. Don't quot me on that though. Do the research and discover out.

The aluminum exterior appears particularly powerful. I believe you could drive a automobile more than it without having damaging it.It took 60 seconds to install a WD 250 GB drive, 5 seconds to plug it into my Macbook, and 5 seconds to see the drive recognized. The drive ran flawlessly off the USB. It was one of the most painless and fulfilling tech purchases in a long time.Nice to see them throw in a eSATA adapter. The glossy black finish looks nice, but I'm dubious of its capability to stay scratch no cost.

Good enclosure, every little thing went together pretty simple. Comes with all the cables you require, and you can piggy back yet another USB device on the back of the dual USB cable supplied. I couldn't get eSATA to work, so I had to do the transfer a bit slower with the USB2 connecton. Maybe the chip set in the enclosure has difficulty with Hitachi drives. I replaced the 250GB 5400rpm Hitachi drive with a 7200rpm 500GB Hitachi (also ordered from newegg.com) no amount of tweaking could make the eSATA work, while 1 time it did show up in device manager... but in no way in disk manager.Also, right after the transfer, the eSATA didn'twork with the old 250GB Hitachi drive either. There is most likely much better enclosures if you're looking for eSATA to work with Hitachi drives.

Tiny w/ unexpected accessories. Works excellent with the Hitatchi 7k100 80GB 7200 RPM. Subsequent day delivery from NewEgg no extra charge! I'm a little worried about heat dissipation. The drive does not touch the aluminum casing so the air stagnates and heat builds up baking the drive. I would advise not to use for prolong periods of time. Another brand I bought here on NewEgg came with heat transfer foam which not only assists dissipates heat but also helps secure the drive. I bought this because I want the speed of esata. There is some misinformation about the power cable and esata. It doesn't aid the manual speaks nothing about them. The USB cable IS THE Power CABLE, even when working with esata. Vista recognizes it as a sata drive when I powered on. Virtually 2x faster in 25GB transfer test on my machine. Be careful most internal sata ports are not hot swappable so if you do install the provided card, energy off the machine. Also beware some front USB ports do not have enough energy when making use of USB. I was hearing a light clicking noise and I plugged into the back USB ports and every thing is working as expected.

But they also give you a unique cable to draw energy from a second USB port if you need it. Soon after the disaster with Hitachi (see Cons), it did work fine with the new Samsung 250GB two.five" drive, without having needing a second USB port. This is not the very same excellent enclosure I purchased months ago. They changed the chipset to Initio, and for some reason, it just will NOT function with (at least) the Hitachi 160GB drive. It won't even power on the drive. So it is fully useless with the Hitachi 160GB 2.5" SATA drive. The only reason it gets far more than one egg is that does work with at least some other disk drives, notably Samsung. I purchased this enclosure particularly due to the fact I knew it would function with my new Hitachi 160GB drive, mainly because I had put an Hitachi 160GB drive in 1 earlier. At very first I thought my new difficult disk was DOA, but no, it was just this enclosure that didn't function. Altering the chipset with NO indication to the consumer is bad sufficient, but when they change it to something that doesn't function with one of the leading brands of 2.5" drives, they have gone too far. They almost certainly saved a few pennies by switching chipsets, but I won't be getting Vantec once more.

This unit works fantastically. The eSATA functions flawlessly, and the USB two. works as well. I have had no problems with this enclosure, unlike a lot of others I have attempted. The aluminum case does a great job of keeping the drive cool. The USB caable included with the unit is a bit cumbersom, and the further USB plug is not needed. I replaced it with a Belkin USB to Mini cable and it works terrific. Amazing funtionality for a excellent price. Go NEWEGG!

Nice seeking enclosure. USB transfer speeds higher than my prior experiences with enclosures ྾MB/s). Comes with all the cables and even a bracket to add eSATA capability to your desktop. The 30MB/s figure really came from my laptop (HP dv6700t x64 Vista House Premium) and a WD1600BEVS 160GB 5400rpm challenging drive. I just utilized a 4.5GB file in my tests. My desktop only got about 20MB/s with the similar setup, which is all I've experienced in the past with other enclosures. Only substantive con: eSATA was only 40MB/sec. My last eSATA enclosure was 45MB/s with the similar tough drive. But that last enclosure (different brand) was defective due to the fact the USB part didn't function.Modest gripes: Indicator light stays on and is supposed to flash off rapidly for transfer indication. It barely dims for the duration of transfer making it hard to tell if it is busy ("Can I unplugg you now?")Other smaller gripe I was skeptical from my previous enclosure difficulties (although Newegg went above and beyond the call of duty to make points perfect). But this one worked terrific perfect from the commence. I was incredibly pleased with my option on this enclosure. And I spent hours reading reviews as I was worried about energy problems (due to complications with my last enclosure of a diverse brand) with my laptop's USB ports. Pleased to discover that I received a JM chipset so it worked nicely with the Samsung 320GB drive I slipped into it. Overall, performance appears great. The enclosure is solid in construction and the style is aesthetically pleasing. The zippered carrying case prevents the drive from slipping out. I was a small disappointed to discover that this enclosure isn't toolless. I own yet another Vantec enclosure that is so I was under a false assumption when purchased this 1. Not a major deal given that I don't strategy on switching drives a fantastic deal but nonetheless it is a pain when you do. The zippered carrying case is bulky and not padded nicely thinking of it's size. All it all, it is a fantastic enclosure with a unequally matched carrying case.

I enjoy the finish, the drive doesn't rattle about like in other enclosures. the aluminum case lets the drive cool nicely. my laptop doesnt have a spot for the eSATA connector. none with the device. Note that i didn't use it with a hitachi drive. newegg came via like often in record time.
