- QUIET!! This drive was a replacement for a 30 GB Maxtor in the old Dell Dimension 4500 that I upgraded. That old drive was horrifically loud and emitted a extremely high-pitched whine and grinding noise. Not so with this drive, I can't hear it at all.- Fast! Not as fast as the Caviar Blacks of course, but considerably speedier than the drive it replaced. The Windows XP installation completed in a affordable amount of time. None that I've found. :) The total came to ๅ which was a bit a lot more than I'd like to have sunk into a computer from 2002 :/

I got this product in excellent shape, and as soon as I got it, I right away installed to a Pc I bought for ฮ at a computer fair. I put a dual boot of Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux, and each are operating incredibly rapid and efficient. Thanks for a fantastic product. I would suggest this product to any wanting quick speed. The drive is great and quiet, it is only loud when it very first boots up. None

Place this in an 8-year-old Dell tower that had its final BSOD. Unplugged the old drive, plugged in the new drive, booted with Acronis True Image and loaded a backup. Every thing took 50 minutes and booted on the very first attempt. The pc was at least twice as fast as it had been with the original 4200 rpm drive. None

Was replacing a old compute for a buddy with new hardware and required a hdd to finish the job. My heart almost jumped when I saw this child on sale and the manufacturer of the hdd sealed the deal. Long time purchaser of Western Digital they appear to by no means fail and each drive seems to have a long lifestyle.Worked like a charm soon after installation. Runs quick and quiet devoid of power fluks with windows 7 ultimate. Thanks newegg!!!!!! A tad bit pricey for a 160 gb bare drive, but cant actually complain since I got it on sale! Western Digital & Newegg Rocks!!!!

• Rapidly• Fantastic Cost none HD Tune benchmarks show that the drive's average speed is 65 MB/sec. The drive it replaced had a avg. speed of 22 MB/sec. Just added yet another 2 years of use for an old Scoket-478 machine for my father-in-law for about fifty bucks.

I didnt have to format it or nothin, just hook up the pins properly (for the ten pin 5 to 6) and windows formatted itself. didnt come with the pamphlet telling me which pins to hook up to i had to drive to yet another persons house to use their world wide web to look it up on the WD website. But thats what you get when you barebone points. At least it was easy to locate. I took a chance on WD even with their high return rate. I hope and pray my drive doesnt die. I'll be saving for a superior brand if it ever does.

Works good, my previous HD was dieing on my enterprise pc until it crapped out. I invest the added 5ish bucks on this 1 and got twice as much GB. It functions fine, didn't have any difficulties installing windows or anything. the cost....you can acquire SATA for the exact same price tag as IDE. When I really searched for a replacement, i was shocked at the price of these points. But o well, you got to pay to get items fixed excellent bubble wrap...and shipping

Quite quickly and really quiet I thought. None I could locate. Immediately recognized by my system. I employed this in an old dell machine that I was repairing. It enhanced the speed and the efficiency all about. Glad I bought it and would undoubtedly acquire another if I had to.

WD appear pretty dependable. This drive is quite quiet and is fast. This is the older PATA interface - they appears to be receiving additional rare and additional high priced more than time - a bit of a shame for replacing HDs in older PCs. -

Not Numerous, other than it truly worked for almost 11 months!I installed this drive into a spare system less than a year ago, usual to light use. Currently I got this... "No Boot Device Discovered" Is Western Digital back to their old tricks? lowering their high quality standards once more? I think that I'll just use Seagate drives exclusively from now on. I essentially put stickers on my Challenging Drives when I set up them, this was dated Ɣ-22-2009) and it's dead already!

Somewhat faster than the failing drive it replaced. Value. It's high-priced for a 160 GB drive. Oh, and it's not Newegg's costs...most likely mainly because it is old technology. Runs at 37 C in a Dell with poor air circulation, whereas the Sea**** it replaced ran at about 30 C. I might RMA this. It's operating warm and the S.M.A.R.T results are worrying me. "The general fitness for this drive is 89%.The overall efficiency for this drive is 90%."

Bought this drive to replace an old seagate that died immediately after four years of use. Gave me no difficulties at all during setup and the computer system now boots up more rapidly then it did when it was initial built. Newegg normal shipping got it to me overnight. I had to spend funds for it and it wasn't instantly teleported to my property. Honesty, if you are seeking for a well priced trustworthy boot drive for a laptop or computer that doesn't need a ton of difficult drive space this is it.

HDD performed nicely for a few months till it quit. Its finding all five eggs anyways due to the fact Western Digital replaced it at their cost. Things happens, they cant all final for years. NONE. The company took care of these. I've constantly had fantastic luck with WD. No matter if they are 80gb or 2tb HDD, they all appear to final a lengthy time.

If I wanted to use this drive for a paper weight it would be awesome! I ordered two of these drives and both had been DOA. It was kinda strange, on all three machines I tested them on, they were recognized in the BIOS, in Windows Disk Management, Safely Get rid of Hardware, etc. but by no means below My Computer. I run a smaller laptop or computer shop and typically stock up on items for future jobs; naturally, by the time I got prepared to use these drives it was past the 30 day return date for Newegg! Dang, now I'm gonna have to go to the manufacturer for assist. I'm quite disappointed mainly because Western Digital is my brand of choice. I use WD in more than 95% of all my builds/repairs. I will continue to order WD products in the future, just not this one!

I purchased this drive back in Feb of 2008. I have applied it in two distinct pc's and reformatted it over and over and it's nevertheless going robust! Am at the moment utilizing it formatted as ext4 for Linux with no issues. The 8 meg cache is a lot more than sufficient for what I do with the drive. None!

160GB is adequate for my needs at the moment. It installed simply. It holds all my information and passes scandisk tests with flying colors. It's a bit noisier that I even though it would be, but not enough to be annoying. For some reason, when I plug it in my personal computer stops recognizing slave/secondary IDE devices. So, to operate around this all of my IDE devices are plugged into their own IDE socket and function as primaries. I assume this is a mother board BIOS problem, but my OEM Compaq board has no newer BIOS than 2003, so there it is. If I had been smarter, I would have ordered a substantially bigger SATA drive for the exact same price and also ordered a SATA IDE adapter. But this didn't happen to me until later. Then, when I upgraded my motherboard to a modern SATA-compatible one particular, the SATA drive would have fit right in.
