This item is a great item for the size. Just had a single RTA but not fault of newegg. Those things just happen. Not a con but would not fit into any other catagory. Make certain ahead of getting this item, that you make certain that your older systems (being an IDE kind tricky drive) will hold this size of tricky drive. On some older pc systems, there are limitations on hard drive size in the bios.

This is a great drive. I put this in to replace a 32 gig 5400rpm drive that came with my old pc in 2001. It was a WD too, but finally pooped out 9 years later! The 7200 rpm factor has made a Enormous distinction in how quickly/good the old dog runs. 650mghz CPU, 448 megs of random/used memory, and XP...and this one is excellent to go! I needed a drive to replace the original Maxtor in my series two Tivo, and this was what looked to be my finest choice. It's fantastic, allowed me to reinstall Windows XP Residence Edition onto my dead laptop or computer. It installed quickly and quickly. Excellent hard drive, twice as big and faster than the old drive that went negative. Snapped it in turned it on bios quickly recognized it as the new master. Loaded xp back on and boom dead personal computer back alive. The greatest speed difference I notice is on startup it starts and is ready to work way more quickly with basically the exact same setup. Not 1 tb.

Quiet, good response times, good price.Partitioned, formatted, image restored and booted in about 30 minutes.Good replacement for my 11yr old 10GB IBM HDD that finally died. Acronis Director Suite only recognized 146GB of usable space. 14GB of lost space seems excessive, otherwise I would have rated it a 5. Note that the old IDE/ATA standard is now identified as PATA. You can see the disk labeled this way in the pictures here at Newegg, so don't let that confuse you.There is no retail packaging with this item, just a static bag and lots of bubble-wrap.And yet another 5-eggs to Newegg for rapid delivery and durable packaging!

Nice efficiency benchmarks. Segate is slightly greater. I normally order Seagate simply because they run quieter than Western Digitals. I am talking about the head seeking that sound like faint clicking. The efficiency is there, Seagates are just quieter. So compared to Seagate, Western Digitals get 3 out of five

These are good tough drives! Haven't had 1 crash but and I have utilized about a dozen of them in this line in numerous diverse sizes. Worked nicely This joint started dying right after like 8 Months. If you get this, definitely get a warranty. Like I said, this thing began dying...it isn't all the way dead yet, but it won't let me access some programs, won't respond to any USB ports, and moves incredibly slow.

Works quite well, with no problems to deal with.Very uncomplicated to install. Great Top quality and exceptional performance. Was to be a replacement for the OEM on my Net Vista but located the fan on the graphics card was producing the noise. A lot of storage space now and it is quicker than the original. Would have like to have had a bigger cache, but the enhance in rpm compensates for any latency. I will mostly run Flight Simulator apps with this HD from Western Digital.
