I bought this drive as an further back-up and when I needed it ƒ mos soon after my obtain), I tried to use it and it was dead. It would not even spin-up. I would have to say that like everybody else has mentioned, this tough drive is really fantastic. It is quiet, quick, has a lot of storage space, and has fantastic price on it. I have located no cons so far. Though I did have to download magic partition just to get it to operate due to the fact Windows XP wouldn't let me to partition it. I would recommend this drive to anybody who wanted a reputable, however powerfully rapid challenging drive.

This drive tends to make virtually no noise. When I was copying over the backup image from my old drive, the only way I could tell it was writing was from the HDD activity light. got two of these set for RAID , HD turning showes average reading speed of 145mb/s. Extreme quiet with RAID set up. It's described as a "green" drive. Random access speeds is terrible even with RAID , but I forgot what the number is. Hopefully it does not slow down the performance. It's a fantastic buy

Good packaging, very good price. Drive was defective upon arrival. Immediately after attempting and failing to install an OS, and or format the drive and many crashes, it was determined that the drive had bad sectors. This determination was arrived at via BIOS giving a warning that at least 4 major drive faults had occurred, and later by making use of analysis software program which showed a lot of much more sectors that were damaged. This made the drive unusable. So it has been RMA'd. I bought this for my son. He likes WD, whereas I like Seagate.... Because this is going to be a gift, I believed I would clone my OS and attempt it in my personal computer just to see if it could impress me? Well, It did! Quiet, could hear it run, and after 5 hours of putting it to the pace, the hd was barely warm.... I know that it is new, but the response time was also fantastic and clean. Promptly, I had to reformat and repackage or I could have kept it for me! I would buy once again.... None I may have to look at WD in the future; I am impressed to say the least. I have utilized Seagate for the past 10 yrs, with three in my Pc: 1 OS and 2 backups.....

Drive runs incredibly quiet. WD support got on the line after about 1 minute of hold time. Their rep, believed not a native English speaker, was fluent and understandable. He provided to support troubleshoot, but when I declined, agreed to RMA the drive without having any argument. Purchased 8ቬ񳏊, installed it inside a week. This week it started freezing when accessing certain parts of the disk. XP locks up entirely when this takes place and offers me a blue screen every single couple of boot attempts. Started the technique with Linux boot cd, and this drive shows unrecoverable media read errors in the log files. The drive is not really dead, so I'm performing to boot up with Trinity Rescue Kit and see if ntfsclone can recover any information off this thing.Hope the next one particular functions.

Not positive if it has a standard power connection, use SATA and you won't even have to be concerned about it. Would acquire once more.

Like I mentioned above: good, speedy, quiet... did I say low-cost? None, genuinely. Got this as a bare drive but the motherboard came with the Sata cable and the power supply came with the power cable and the case came with the hardware-no cost attachments so no harm, no foul. This thing is genuinely quite quiet. Thanks to this stealthy difficult drive, my new develop is so quiet it is ridiculous. And it is quick. Really very satisfied.

??? Drive was DOA. Returned for a refund. I've purchased 8 hard drives from NewEgg in the last 3 months. two were DOA, and 1 has errors. Perhaps it's just how Newegg handles drives???? Not confident, but I will not be returning to Newegg for additional difficult drives. :-(

Solid value for DVRs and Video recording on a budget. I have purchased over ten of these, and strategy to standardize on this drive for the near future. What more can be said? None Just don\'t forget to set jumper on pins five and 6 (third column from the suitable) for 1.5Gb/sec throughput. Takes standard sized jumpers (unlike Seagate, which uses really tiny jumpers).
