Update to my critique from 3ቭ񳏋:It's nonetheless a nice, major, fat 750gb of SATA happiness that came packaged in bubble wrap (alas, with no lollipops), but... I will gladly eat crow when I deserve it. I knew I was tempting fate when I wrote my original assessment so early in my ownership cycle, but that's what a few too several energy drinks will do for ya. Anyways...so literally from the moment I wrote that review, it's been sporadic (and just really strange) instability problems - only 1 beach ball but really a handful of startup hangs and other just weird goings-ons: an update and a couple installs failed, rEFIt wouldn't bless even by employing Sudo, the bootcamp partition decided to quit booting when employing the solution crucial, and so on, etc. I clean installed twice, but could never pin down any distinct cause(s) on the OS/application finish. So, I've lastly thrown in the towel and am back to the stock 500gb and every thing appears to be back to regular. Note that while I study all about the EFI downgrade stuff, I'm skipping that on principle at least for now... I don't blame WD for this problem at all due to the fact the drive itself is solid (thus the 5 eggs once again), but I wanted to clarify my knowledge for any other MBP owners contemplating this purchase (remember, mine's a mid-2009; your model may be just fine based on earlier reviews). In the finish, I don't plan on RMA'ing it given that I purchased understanding the threat of incompatibility (plus I generally planned on using one as an external drive to offload imovie videos and projects).

Quickly, Huge capacity Eh.. nothing truly so far Was thinking about going with an SSD for my boot drive (latpop w/ 2 drive slots) And following careful consideration of my spending budget (I'm not bill gates) I decided that a faster RPM challenging drive would be far better. I'm glad I chose it, lots of space (now to backup all the files I tearfully deleted) and fast enough for my requirements. Certainly not worth losing hundreds of GB and dollars for a bit of a speed boost.

Huge. Quick. Lots of empty space.Noise and power consumption about the exact same as the stock WD Scorpio Blue 500GB 5400 rpm drive that it replaced. None so far Newegg had this in my hands less than 24 hours (with Ũ.99 three-day UPS shipping selected). This is on my four-mo old Sony Vaio F13 laptop:Windows 7 Hard Disk rating went from 5.7 to 6.; oddly sufficient overall rating went from 4.8 to 5. (with Aero efficiency becoming the bottleneck - usually take the Windows system ratings with a grain of salt - it's just a point of reference).Cloned over original drive - After deleting/moving unnecessary files, checking for disk errors and defragging - working with Apricorn EzGig III computer software, then just swapped out the drives. Now utilizing original drive as a portable backup drive in the enclosure applied throughout the clone. Overall cloning procedure took about 30 minutes (running "hot" in Windows 7 - couldn't get the cold boot method to recognize drive). At less than ๭ shipped, certainly a worthwhile upgrade. Tough disk and memory upgrades (assuming BIOS assistance) need to get most folks further along with their existing laptop setup, regardless of OS selection.

Quickly with 7200 rpm speedFairly cool when operatingFantastic for a small HTPC none yet I have one of these installed in a miniPC, one of those ZOTAC boxes. The drive functions properly, doesn't get too hot and functions substantially quicker than the slower spinning HD's ordinarily located in laptops or netbooks.

* Good capacity in a tiny package* Probably fast, if you could turn off the stupid power management * Considerably noisier than the stock 5400 rpm drive in my MacBook Pro (whooshing sound, like a fan running)* Aggressive power management destroys efficiency. Makes UI really "jerky". I installed this in a brand new early-2011 MacBook Pro (Sandy Bridge), replacing the stock 500GB 5400 rpm drive. The new disk has really aggressive power management firmware that causes it to constantly spin down. If you don't access the disk for a second, it slows down, and then when you need it, it takes a very noticeable amount of time for it to speed back up. This generally causes the UI of whatever app you're operating to freeze till the disk returns to full speed and services the request. So the effective seek time is incredibly poor -- significantly worse than the stock 5400rpm drive.Supposedly you can disable this via a straightforward ATA command but immediately after an hour of tinkering with it, I can't get it to work. On linux it would be simple (hdparm) and on Windows there are apparently tools to do it. For the Mac, even so, the only tool I identified was hdapm (not hdparm) but it doesn't perform for me (just reports FAILED).WD should present a utility or directions to disable this "feature" on their disk.

I purchased this to upgrade my launch model 60 gig hard drive. Considerably quicker than the stock 5400rpm. I was unsure which drive to use as there are so numerous various selections and opinions out there. I am quite pleased with this drive. Nonetheless a small pricey for a 750 two.5" drive but you get what you spend for... I have generally had good luck with my WD drives in all my Computer's. Segate and others, not so a great deal... If your searching for a rapid trustworthy drive for a ps3, appear no further.

Ok men and women, here is a assessment based on usage in a mid 2010 Macbook Pro - two.4ghz i5 - 8gb RAM hi-res screenOriginal Mac difficult drive = 320GB 5400RPMOriginal Mac challenging drive speed (AJA benchmark) = peak 55mb/s read -- 48mb/s writeWD Scorpio Black 750GB speed (same test) = peak 122mb/s read -- 97mb/s writeWD drive is considerably quicker, greater load time, file transfers, photoshop efficiency and so on. BATTERY LIFE!The specs say 񔔸 RPM power consumption" The original Mac difficult drive need to have been actually low power because my battery meter use to hit 11+ hours under extremely light use, NOW it hits 8. I would say overall the new HDD has dropped my battery life about 20%.Also, the drive is much louder than the original, it sounds almost like the fans are funning quick. There is no clicking or "usage" noise i can tell, just a wooshing sound. Although my battery life is much less, the performance of the drive makes up for it. The original drives are a bottleneck to the awesome performance of the i5 Macbook pro's.Im giving five eggs simply because the drive is a high performance drive and ought to NOT be held to all the lower power/noise standards of a slow 5400RPM drive. Acquire this drive if you demands tons of space and speed.

Massive and rapid. five year warranty. Makes a clicking sound just about every now and once more. Installed and formatted with no troubles the initial time around. This is only the third HDD I've ever installed and formatted the primary partition in FAT32 which I did not know restricted the size of a single file that could transfered to it at 4GB. Wiped and reformatted to ext4 (I'm running Ubuntu 10.10) and now that partition is misaligned by 512 bytes. I'm more than my head with manually realigning but fortunately, the drive nonetheless seems to perform properly and speedily. I'll attempt to appropriate this once I get an external HDD to transfer to. The only concern I have is that each once and a though, the drive makes a single, fairly loud click. This undoubtedly makes me a bit uneasy but the drive checks out when tested. And yes, the click was happening Just before I formatted to ext4. Nonetheless, I'm searching at selecting up a second.

Exceptional challenging drive. Rather, smooth, huge and far superior to my old 500GB five,400 RPM drive. Information transfer is much faster, bench marks proved it, windows knowledge score jumped much more than a full point. I have had many WD drives and they constantly deliver. None so far. I ended up purchasing apricot's data transfer cable and software for a smooth transition. It worked flawlessly.

Definitely more rapidly booting and launching than any of the 5,400 RPM drives I've used. Additional so than I expected. Specifically when operating Parallels.Installation into a Mid 2010 MacBookPro was painless, although moving 600GB takes a even though. Very slightly noisier (whoosh sound) and more vibration than the stock drive, but not annoyingly so. And I'm picky about these issues. For a brief although I had a 12.5mm 1TB drive in the exact same MBP, but it vibrated worse than any drive I've ever employed. I'm searching forward to a Scorpio Black 1TB.

I purchased this to replace the 320GB drive in my Macbook Pro. The cloning of the drive and the install went smoothly - probably 45 minutes in all - most of that time copying the data from the old to the new drive. This drive fits perfectly with the similar dimensions as the old drive. I run both Snow leopard and Parallels with Windows 7 and they each cloned perfectly onto the new drive. Price was correct, Newegg packed the drive nicely in bubble wrap. I'm happy. None

Significant Capacity. Quiet, quick and works properly if you install fresh OS on it. For cloning old HDD not so well.. read further in cons section 4K sector size, the align software takes for ever to re-align ࿝ǘ hours for 250GB worth data) This HDD is based on new 4K sector size technologies. I replaced my old laptop HDD with this new 1 and utilized the clone tool WD has on their web site. Immediately after cloning the HDD, an align software program needs to be used. All of which worked well, except when windows 7 boots up - There are core windows components that fail to initialize. Windows Update is broken - Right after contacting WD and troubleshooting - NO answers to the problem. If you are interested in knowing a lot more about the issues, in google search for the keywords "Windows 7 windows update broken following cloning"I'm certain this drive works properly if you installed OS freshly but for pple who want to just swap old HDD with the new 1 and those who have numerous partitions on the old HDD need to contemplate waiting atleast till Windows 7 comes out with their SP1. Until then a lot of questions but no answers..

Popped it into a brand new Thinkpad T520 and it's been performing great. It's a lot faster than the Hitatchi 200GB 7.2K in my T60. I'm seeing 80MB/s sequential read and write with a Linux ext4 file system when copying large files. I don't know if that's normal these days, but the Hitatchi was getting half that. I'm seriously thinking of getting another one of these to put in my old machine as well.

Installed this drive in a 2010 MacBook Pro 13". At first, the Snow Leopard DVD I was using to install wouldn't take - kernel panic on boot from DVD! After much fussing around (including booting from the old drive externally and formatting this driver) I figured out that the sudden-motion-sensor drivers on the 10.6.0 DVD I was using weren't compatible with big drives, so make sure you use at least 10.6.3 or the DVD that came with the computer, or something even newer. Overall a good drive and the speed is much more useful than 1000gb for the same price, at least in a laptop!

Great drive from western digital, very quite, and excellent performance. I was thinking about getting a SSD but I once the 9.5mm 750Gb blacks came out I decided on holding off for another year or so before dropping tons of cash on an SSD. Price per GB is a little expensive compared to 500GB drives that retail for around $60 but I needed more storage space so the extra $50 was well worth it.
