Following trouble with SSD's ether operating or not, they are rapidly when they do, and dead when they don't, I decided to go back to HD's. Planning on making use of two of these on my MB's built on 6GB/s SATA controller. Was going to order two of these initial from WD's on the internet store, but their internet site wiped my account for some cause... so I came here, but these were out of stock for really awhile, just came back in but with a limit of 1 per consumer, I ordered 1, and tried to order a second in a second order, but the method voided that order stating 'back order' as the reason. There may not be many of these HD's left in stock appropriate now folks! I could only order one, if you are thinking of receiving 1, attempt it now!

Particularly quick hard drive. Much better price per gigabyte than any SSD. SATA III interface, with 32MB cache. None Arrived well packed. It's sary what virtually all packages go by way of in transit. Each mechanical hard drive model has a percentage of units that get RMA'ed since of harm for the duration of shipping. That's not the drive's fault. Some just arrive dead, others fail after a month. That's what warranties are for! Back up your information or danger losing your information, period.

Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Comment:
This drive is rapid, quicker than any mechanical tough drive I've had (note: my 1st IDE drive was a Seagate 106MB back in 1992, and I've had plenty because then). This drive is also quiet --when defragmenting, I can not hear it above the noise-level of my case fans (which are all low or medium-noise models). The drive blows 7200rpm desktop drives away when doing multitasking operations that are also disk-intensive, or when doing random reads/writes. There is no con to this drive if you fully grasp why you'd purchase a 7200rpm tough disk vs. an enterprise-level drive like the `Raptor, vs. an SSD. I wanted far more capacity than an SSD could give at a reasonable price. A 256GB SSD would price 軸-800. A 128GB SSD would not be adequate storage for my boot drive. As for a 7200rpm drive, I already have them, and I wanted something faster. The `Raptor is faster, has enterprise-class reliability and capabilities, and has a five-year warranty. Reviewers who have bashed this drive in favor of an SSD or a 7200rpm desktop drive don't genuinely know the difference in between all three --each has their niche.

This new generation of WD VelociRaptors are much quicker than the last generation Raptors. I've owned numerous Raptor drives more than the years and the reliability of these drives is outstanding!! Finally they have huge capacity drives with great speed and my 600GB drive has worked flawlessly so far. I seriously debated on SSD drives, but they are way too expensive for significant capacity and from the hundreds of reviews I have read the reliability is not there but. In reality, most SSD drives flat out fail after a short time with no way to recover lost data. I will reconsider SSD when the price comes down and they establish confirmed reliability. This is not a fault of the VelociRaptor drives, but my Intel X58 MB only supports the SATA two formatt. On the other hand, making use of HD Tach I'm nonetheless obtaining twice the speed, faster seek occasions, double burst read time and double average read/write occasions than the last generation Raptors. I bought a PCI express 2. sata 3 card with sata3 cables to try to get as close to the prospective 6GB through put capability of sata3. This was a total waist of time and income. Maintain in mind, PCIe 2. at it's finest will only get you close to 5GB thru put and additional like four.8GB. Anyway, working with HD Tach, the only factor that improved was my burst read of 292MB's up from sata2 Motherboard port that gave me 271MB's. However, my typical read time per M/B's really went down and my seek time really went up slighty. Not excellent! Bottom line, don't waist your dollars on a sata3 card if your motherboard doesn't support sata3!!!

Quickly (relatively speaking) when they operate. Serious incompatibility with several raid controllers. Drives will randomly drop out of the raid array. Applied Western Digital disk checker and of course it located no difficulties. Decided to waste much more time by taking off raid controller and trying Linux software raid. Worked for about 30 minutes until I attempted handbraking a video to the array. Good "hangs" randomly causing complete system to freeze. I actually wish I hadn't spent to a lot $$ on four of these pieces of junk. I'm going to do my greatest to return them regardless of wasting many weeks attempting to figure out why so many men and women brag about owning them. The hype does not come close to the reality with these drives. They aren't SAS and don't pretend they are. They aren't even superior for high end usage due to the fact they're so unreliable. I'm frustrated I wasted so a lot time trying to get them to work. Also, they seriously are loud. Write any information to them and you'll hear the clicking noises more than and more than once more.

I've been a lengthy time Raptor Drive user and its the lastest and greatest. (only it isn't) This pathetic piece of hardware pushed me into acquiring my initial SSD and I am really content with it. (the SSD not the Raptor) I am not a Raptor hater folks, in fact I highly advise the older 300 G model.FYI-The WD6000HLHX gets a Windows 7 performance rating of 5.9 This drive Is quite a bit SLOWER than previous generation Raptors. Immediately after the poor efficiency this drive dropped my new 7.five system down to a 5.9, I swapped it out with my old 300 G Raptor and it essentially ran more quickly.HDTune Bench on WD3000HLFSMinimum: 45.1 MB/secMaximum: 124. The only thing changed was the Hard drive)I was hoping Western Digital would tell me this was a defective drive but apparently this is as excellent as the new Raptor gets. Bottom line, The marginal speed increase does not justify the added $$ per GB for this drive. I bought this for my new Hex core technique and It was a bad selection. I wasn't expecting SSD speeds but I did anticipate that it not in fact be SLOWER than the older 300GB Raptor. I wrote to Western Digital assistance about how painfully slow this drive is and was told (a week later) simply, they dont assistance 3rd party benchmarking software and wouldn't confirm or deny my results. Yea, since if they did, they couldnt "exaggerate" its performance. They went on to point out that this drive got excellent evaluations. Yea, nicely not from me it didn't! Notice they dont publish the speed specs for this drive like they do the other Raptors. Lastly, I would point out that as opposed to most people giving this drive a bad assessment, I essentially own one.

Rapidly and fairly rather. Never ran too numerous benchmarks but i have no will need to due to the fact it is running very good and rapid. Like others stated, if last the initially couple of weeks it will most most likely last a decade. Runs cool, never ever observed it go above 33C under full load. Windows 7 X64 Pro takes 15-20 secs to load (may not be the best performance index) but the finest component is that when you log in, i can do anything immediately, no waiting for start out-up services to load anymore!! even with norton (and thats saying one thing lol) Price, but every thing is expensive when it very first comes out, so individuals must stop complaining about cost and deducting eggs if they buy a product (especially a much anticipated 1 like this) within 6 months of release.... It is NOT a SSD so do not compare it to a SSD. Period.99.9% of reviews do not have a 'high' understanding of the merchandise they they purchase, so most peoples evaluations, especially the bad ones, are bogus. The must make you pass a test to place you at a expertise level....If you use windows experience index as a benchamrk....nicely thats just a fail.

This drive is quickly and reliable, the two most critical components for me in a difficult drive. Beyond that, the drive is quite silent, a lot more so than the 7200 RPM Seagate it replaced. Quite impressive. None that I have identified so far. If you're searching for a high excellent HDD but dont want to pay SSD costs, get this.

Great size per dollar compared to SSDs. I don't actually trust SSDs fully yet, so this is the next best answer. Heat spreader keeps the drive cool, cooler than a stock 7200 rpm Caviar Black 1TB drive. Can be a tad noisy during writes if your case is "airy". My tough drives sit near the upper rear of my case (Thermaltake Kandalf) so to me it's not truly audible. Employing as my OS drive with a pagefile, it's speedy! Adobe reader with no the preload on startup comes up in a bit much less than a second. iTunes with my Media/Music folder on a 1TB Caviar Black drive comes up in three seconds. From the Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate loading screen to the desktop exactly where items have stopped beginning up in about 20 seconds.

It was broke quicker... I rma'd it and the replacement worked fine. for acquiring 8, and only have 1 that had problems, i'm pretty pleased, these things have really improved in excellent and reliability because i last got them

I've generally recognized about Raptors but stayed away due to the cost of them. I just had a Samsung two drive RAID setup go poor on me and was rather upset at the low speed of these older drives. So I just jumped on two of these Raptor 600Gb drives. Using Windows Vista x64..- Fast!!!... You get what you pay for.. Particularly in RAID .. Only new SSDs will beat this. 250MB/sec uncomplicated speeds here at the start.- Nice to have 1.2 GB with the speed in Raid . - 1 week of moderate use with no issues in sealed little form factor Shuttle case.. Usually worred about DOA drives but so far it's been fantastic.- Noise.. Or lack there of.. These "Raptors" are quieter than my older Samsung drives. Yes they make a very slight quantity of expected Raptor clicking noise but you only hear it when you are attempting to hear it. Everyone who complains about this in these newer Raptors has lost their minds and is only attempting to pick at insignificant points. - Sorry, still a challenging price pill to swallow. 1 star lost only due to price. But I obviosly still did it.- They are mechanical drives and will by no means be what SSDs are. As soon as SSD sizes and expenses turn out to be additional resonable, then this drive technology will unfortunetly die. Capacity is there only salvation..!- As above, latency / access time can in no way even be close to what SSDs are. But you get overall speed and substantially greater capacity for the cost. I am now rather nervous about RAID operations over the longer term.. Advise, Norton Ghost yourself good overall drive snapshots (or whatever software program works for you) to an external backup. You will save yourself a complete lot of discomfort if issues go poor for you. I hope these quicker Raptors make it over the lengthy run..

Purchased two of these and put them in RAID , which is a little risky but I have backups of all of my information so no biggie if 1 had been to fail. I have no idea where some other reviewers are getting the slow transfer rates-even employing just one drive must yield performance no less than half that of the numbers I am getting. Not to mention, I am running this on a SATAII connection (although I have a feeling as soon as if I changed to SATAIII the throughput won't change). These issues run COLD to the touch. I have them in an Antec 900 in the similar cooling bay, on slots 1 and three. I put my hand on both the underside and topside of the drives and I don't feel a thing. No physical numbers from HD Tune Pro simply because of the RAID volume.HD Tune Pro: Intel Raid Volume Benchmark ƒxWDC WD6000HLHX)Test capacity: fullRead transfer rateTransfer Rate Minimum : 175.6 MB/sTransfer Rate Maximum : 263.four MB/sTransfer Rate Average : 211. At today's marketplace rates, I got 4x the storage capacity and several folds much more worth of lifespan and reliability for a similarly priced SSD. That, to me, justifies spending close to 軸 on two drives, specially if they'll last longer and offer you the similar efficiency, than just 1 drive that is prone to failures, needs some stupid TRIM garbage, and performance degrades over time. For the spending budget that I had for my boot disk, SSD just didn't make any sense to me and still doesn't.I've split my RAID volume in half and program on installing Ubuntu on the other side. All of my programs open up lightning fast and this machine performs faster than I can maintain up with it.Specs:Windows 7 Pro x64ASUS Rampage III FormulaIntel i7 950 OC'd to three.7 GHz12GB Ɩx2GB) G.skill Pi Series DDR32xWD 600GB Velociraptor RAID 2xPowercolor Radeon 6870 Crossfire1100W abs PSU

Extremely quickly drive. The next best thing to SSD's. Reliability. I've bought 4 raptors over the past 3 years. Two have died in much less than a month.Installed two of these drives on a new PC in RAID . After a couple of days I noticed the technique lagging. Windows 7 was getting error messages from the drives. On the Asus P6X58D-# there is no way to get the Intelligent status when the frives are installed on the 6gb SATA 3 Marvel controller. Even in the OS I could not see or isolate each and every drive to check wise status.Immediately after 1 of the drives failed. Put both in separately and isolated the one that had finally failed. Will RMA tomorrow. A particular massive national retail electronics chain does not carry the WD VelociRaptors anymore. I won't say the name, but they no longer carry them in the shops and are not restocking them. They had been in stock two weeks ago. Hummmmm....

I recently purchased 2 of these and set them up in Raid . Lots of space and screaming quickly speeds - Win 7 boots in 9 seconds! ྲ soon after antivirus install) I only have Sata II ports but these can't saturate that transfer rate so no loss. Nice, sold heat sink keeps the drive cool and quiet. None so far. I wish I had listened to my brother-in-law and started constructing rigs with Raptor drives sooner!

10k, Not an SSD, cheaper than SSD, quicker than all other RPM drives, sata6, 600GB. I program on acquiring this soon. Ought to have a fan on it all the time. I do not own this drive, but I've been making use of dual 150GB drives and I put a 120mm (large) fan on them and they function wonderful, and are cool to the touch with the fan. My GF's laptop or computer (dual three.0Ghz) with a single 150GB 10K raptor seems far more responsive than my AMD 6-core with 1TB WD Black drive. I'm jealous, and am saving up for this drive.Windows Expertise Index. Hers rates 5.9, mine rates 6.4, but hers is faster. I don't believe WEI takes into account access time which is about 33% faster on raptor drives. I have an 80GB SSD on my laptop and it has slowed way down considering that I bought it. It's in Intel and yes I use the Intel SSD tool box to 'refresh' it just about every week as suggested. I barely put anything on/off it.RPM drives also work rapidly, up to the day the die, ok nicely most of the time. To me, SSDs are nonetheless a joke.

Incredibly good drive. I have had 3 - 74 gig raptors in a raid array for years. So I ordered one of these, just to see how quick it was. I loved it, so I ordered a 2nd one so I can do raid once again. These drives are so quiet, and are actually fast. Only con is the price compared to other drives, but this is an enterprise drive 1.two million MTBF. I can live with the expense. Cost, but you get a lot of space compared to SSD's.
