The absence of the L3 Cache, and the reduced size of the other on-board caches makes this thing BLOW. My II X2 250 Performed better on day-today routines Browsing, File management & file transfer. I re-checked my Bios everything is correct, checked Windows 7 64 ultimate, cleaned and reset 7 back to virgin mode, reset all tweaks. Doing simple things like moving files, deleting stuff, playing an mp3 and just general file tasks, makes this thing (the 630!) pause, splutter and hang! The reduced caches definitely impact performance. Heat is not an issue, nor voltage, nor Bios, this is my 7th A-D chip and I've been doing this a long time. Game wise, it does improve things, just the 4 cores working, but normal day to day work, I might stick my II X2 250 back in a 3.0Ghz clocked to 3.2Ghz it was stable, no 'pauses' and I could play a mp3 and move a file.. For games it's great, but when you drop to the desktop my 5050e, 240 and 250 performed GREAT this however does NOT.

On Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit this thing rips and runs cool. i have a smilodon which isnt even the best for cooling but it never goes over 40 C. Without no OC it score 7.2 on windowsperformance, where i saw i7's doing 7.5 with a way better system. granted that thing isnt accurate but just shows you that this little quad core can keep it's own. It can handle pretty much any game with good hardware beside it and again, runs cool! i suggest if you're on a slight budget, get this quadcore.

I was looking for a cheaper processor to upgrade a very old pentium. Didn't want to go super high nd with this machine. I threw this and a Gigabyte Mobo in the old computer and was very happy. It is roughly as fast, maybe even faster than my Intel Core2Quad Q6600. My first experience with Athlon chips and I'm happy.

Can't say anything bad about this processor. CACHE size hasn't been an issue and for $100 you can't beat the price. It's fun seeing 4 processors in the task manager!

Pros: AM3, Quad-Core, Low price

This CPU rocks. Price match it and it can be your for less than $100. Way better value than Intel C2Q Q8200 and isn't on a dieing socket (LGA 775). Overclocks decently, should push to at least 3.0GHz without any voltage increase. Its about 70% of the performance of the i5 750 bust cost less than half the price. Also, do yourself a favour and don't use the stock cooler. Buy another cooler unless your on a super tight budget.

Cons: None

Pros: Quad core, 2.8 GHz
Comment:
I upgraded from a 7750 (dual core, 2.7 GHz). This chip isn't a lot faster, because not a lot of software takes advantage of quad cores. I did compare some DVD rendering, and this one is about 25% faster than the 7750. It also seems to multitask better under Windows 7 than the dual core.

Cons: -May not be ideal for top of the line gaming builds

Pros: -Fast-Cool-Cheap (if you PM)-Great bang for your buck
Comment:
I purchased this CPU (PM'd for ~100) for a computer that's being used for every day use (web browsing, listening to music, email etc..) and for the price I paid this does an amazing job. The CPU has no problems handling multiple basic programs (word, msn, firefox) and can be easily overclocked to 3+ ghz. If you're looking to build a budget PC I would definitely recommend this.

I had an Athlon X2 4600 that was not too fast on video encoding, and my youngest son likes to play with Dolphin (Wii emulator). The new Quad Core really smokes the X2 4600 in everything. Not a bad upgrade for $125. For what I do it is just about as fast as the same speed, but more expensive, Phenom II

Installed on XFX 750a, replaced Phenom x3 8400. Needed to update BIOS for mobo to recognize, after flash with USB had no problems. Stock at 2.8GHz, OC'd in 750a to 3.15GHz with no problems, could go farther, but no need, this thing rocks! Don't let the lack of L3 cache hold you back.
