setup was a nightmare
Comment:
When I first plugged this it, everything worked. However, I ran the latest firmware update and then the Iomega software stopped working. It took a couple of hours of time on the phone with Iomega support to solve the issue - in the end we had to do a work around as the software did not work (on my MacBook running OS 10.5). It works now but be prepared to spend lots of time setting it up with tech support.

well worth the money
Comment:
Don't know why so many people complained about the setup of this nas. I let my teen set it up before I got home from work. In order to get it to recognize my printer I had to plug my printer in and turn it on. The software that came with it was outdated but when was the last time you got hardware that didn't need a firmware update? I access it all the time via the web. No issues and it's fast as far as i'm concerned. People also complained that it's noisy. I can barely hear it standing 3ft away in a quiet room. I would buy this again in a heartbeat.

Good product in general, the only problem that i found is with the print server and access to the web feature using PDA.

Good Product

This was my first time setting up a NAS device. It was very straight-forward and I set it up with no problems. Works well wired and wirelessly - performance is surprisingly fast. I give it two thumbs up!

Good Backup Device
Comment:
No problems setting up this NAS. Drive maps fine. Using as primary on-site backup device for small business. Of course, if the building burns down... That's what off-site backup is for.

Streams movies flawlessly

My lacie 500gb NAS drive was hicupping with bitrates above 1,000, but this drive handles it nicely. Super easy to set up - in windows 7 I don't need their software at all after the initial install to get a static ip, etc. Xbox360 and ps3 pick it up perfect, too.

A Nice Looking BRICK!
Comment:
I have this product and would NOT waste my money! Many problems with drivers, recognizing network, and mapping issues, PLUS data loss! If it works, it works great -BUT- Big problem with getting help from Iomega support. Iomega NAS solutions have hundreds of unresolved problems posted on their own forums- with NO answers. Check for yourself (iomegasupportforums). Mine is now a BRICK!

Pretty good for the money but could be better
Comment:
I like this drive because it was affordable, had time machine support for osx, and came with a big 1tb drive inside. It also claims to manage torrents and the application is certainly on the drive but sadly enough it simply doesn't work at all. Downloads never start and if they do they don't finish. The remote web interface works but its very slow and if more than one computer connects to it at a time it grinds to a halt. In fact if there's ever more than one computer using the drive on the network things go verrry slow. Turns out if you want speed and features, this isnt the solution for you but it is a great hard drive that stores things and works well as long as you don't tax it too much. I am happy with it and next time will look at beefier units to do what I want to do with it. The fit and finish is bar none, top notch.

Could not write large files without error
Comment:
Attempted to use this drive for backup with Norton Ghost only to discover delayed write error. Returned the next day.

Well, it works
Comment:
Not jumping through hoops. The software eventually worked, but was quirky and took a couple tries to get it to recognize the drive, etc. The thing is loud, too. I would have expected this kind of noise in a product from 15 years ago, but nowadays there are very quiet fans available. Iomega apparently doesn't know about them. The tiny little fan in this thing makes more noise than my PC's case fan. At the end of the day, though, the drive and the software work beautifully, and keep as many historical backup copies of my documents as I want it do, and it does it in real time.

A Welcomed Addition...
Comment:
Drive installed on my LAN via my XP Pro Computer with no problems, software worked well, but not superbly. Had problems when I first tried to install through my VISTA machine. Now that it is on the LAN, all connected computers are able to access it. It is USB connected to a WD TV Media Player which feeds the Media Center that is now connected to my LAN. Great Drive, fast and reliable. A very good product!

Iomega NAS - nice
Comment:
My order arrived in 3 days via regular shipping (great!). Drive easy to set up. Used enclosed software originally (mounts drive and assigns letters automatically). Later removed this software as drive is accessible via Windows Network. Transfer speeds slower than my external USB hard drive, but now ALL my machines have access to it and I don't need to leave main machine one. Using the drive for network backup (Genie Time Line). Cannot get print server working - seems it is an issue with current firmware. Drive is very quiet!

Forego the Software
Comment:
Drive installed quickly on my VISTA system. Was not sure I wanted to load the software, which was nothing more than a collection of software packages (some not free). It's a good thing I didn't want to install it, as the disc would not read on my system. Instead, one can log into the drive via their web browser, and manage the drive. In addition to that, one can find true freeware programs for processes such as backups (I use SyncBack). Overall, I think the drive is a great value, has good speed, and certainly comes with a lot of space for music, backups, etc. For me, it is the storage component for all of my music, from which my various UPnP devices connect (wired and wirelessly). For this operation, it works well. I see now the drive is not currently available (Nov 2009). Perhaps it's simply out of stock, or maybe Iomega is coming out with a new drive. We'll see.

Software not that great
Comment:
The software is not as seamless as you would like. Otherwise, the product seems to work very well once you go through the set up and permissions etc. I would recommend this product with the above warning.

Good value for the price
Comment:
Plus: The NAS was easy to setup for a PC environment. The cost was reasonable for a 1TB disk at 1000T speed. The web-based user interface was straight forward. Minus: The NAS response seems sluggish compared to my NAS from a different vendor. Noise was not a problem for me as I stuck the NAS in my comm closet next to my router. I removed the software from my PC after initial install as it had no value added for me; personally, I found the auto-assignment of shares to drive letters to be annoying rather than helpful; the NAS can be setup and managed from any browser without the Iomega software without difficulty. I could not get the ''torrent'' capability to function; I have not tried the other features. Features I wish it had: I wish the on-board server supported HTTPS and SSH rather than HTTP and FTP. I wish I could find more information about the Linux implementation than what I found at the vendor website. Overall, I give the NAS a solid B.

Good Product, OK Performance
Comment:
I bought this drive a couple of weeks ago. Had a hard time finding the drive with the software supplied while connected to my wireless router. Once I plugged it to a regular switch without Internet access I was able to discover the drive and change the IP. It works as advertised with the software included but performance could be better. Still, not bad for the price and capacity. I have backed up information via wire and wireless media without major issues; I suspect that if you connect the box to a Gigabit switch you can get decent transfer rates. I have not tried the firmware upgrade yet.

Don't upgrade the Firmware
Comment:
Like a good user, I upgraded the firmware right out of the box & it bricked up. After 3 hours I finally got it back online, but the print sharing is useless, & time synchronization fails. Iomega is vastly aware of the firmware issue, but in three months of user noise has failed to issue a fix; not even a roll back to the previous version, which at least allowed print sharing to work -- one of the main reason that I & others purchased this device.

Easy set up, Works fine!
Comment:
I received my network drive about two or three weeks ago. Set up was easier than just about any other electronics toy I have purchased yet. It took a little time to figure out how to use the drive, but their website was helpful. (It wasn't one, two, three.) But I got it going on my own!

Good Price, Poor Documentation
Comment:
The drive is a good value for the size. I bought it for a network drive to use as backup and to be a media server for my iPod. There is no documentation on how to map drives and set up IP addresses to get access remotely. I do not recommend this for a beginner unless you have a very knowledgable friend to set it up.

Still doesn't work well with Mac
Comment:
I bought this based on a review in MacWorld. The included software crashed 3 of my Macs, and the software disc wasn't recognized by my PC. 3 calls to support gave me conflicting advice. After 5 hrs, I got it working by checking the Mac forums, and using complex terminal commands. For those looking for an easy Mac NAS solution, I would look elsewhere.

Good value, terribly slow
Comment:
I had no trouble setting up the drive with our MACs, but my VISTA PC was a real pain. Backing that up is the reason I bought this drive in the first place. The Windows backup software would not load, and I had a terrible time getting the drive set up in Windows. Spent a lot of chat time with tech support. When I finally had it all set up, it took over 40 hours to back up 52 gigabytes of data.

good for home, maybe not for work
Comment:
This device plug and played very simply. I was able to log in, rename it, set up shares, accounts, passwords easily. When I connect to it by IP, it is sluggish, but when it is mapped as a drive, it is pretty quick. One of the free backup software that came with it was not free and asked some spyware ish questions. I uninstalled mosy. The bios update for it didn't install after 3 tries, so I skipped it. No big deal. The rest is really good, considering that its a 1TB network area storage unit for under $150. Its a really good value.
