stable, very good seeking, uncomplicated setup...decent application..phenom 2 quad core performs in this mobo without a bios update!!I had this problem with a different mobo...the self setup on the first boot works well, but requires a min. nice I/O's and decent layout..the memok reset is positioned poor (top suitable of board by 24 pin pwr which is below all the dvd and ide cables, which isnt a huge deal if you have sata dvd's but with ide its a reach..I LOOOOVE the removable front panel i/o plug..no additional finger cramps plugging in the pwr, reset, etc. in the bottom corner... nice feature for these of us with large hands.. nothing at all worth noting... incredibly steady. the memtest it runs on the initially boot created me believe there was an challenge (it virtually a min to post beep) but after it booted, its been running smoothe since. Paired with an AMD 965 quad black cpu and two-4gb sticks of xms3 ddr3 1333, and wow, what a machine. employing a bfg gts250, cod bo runs settings maxed without breaking a sweat. I bought this mobo as a replacement for a non booting M S Intl., and I am so glad I did. raid setup was a breeze, minimal setting modifications in bios, uncomplicated...Ive employed ASUS for years now, and soon after tempting fate, ill in no way get anything but.

A single of the handful of boards to support AMD and SLI, it has high speed information transfer in a multi-GPU setup. Under no circumstances seems to go on sale, I had to spend complete price. I've not setup SLI yet, I can't comment how nicely that feature operates at this time.

nforce 980, AM3 and SLI all on the exact same board. mem ok led worked showing my my memory was negative. Genuinely saved on troubleshooting. 4 on board fan connectors. 6 USB connectors in the back. Of the five internal SATA connectors, only four can be used by default. The 5th connector and the eSATA connector can only be used when RAID or AHCI mode is enabled. This concern along with the absence of a floppy controller tends to make it difficult for loading XP. A single need to have a USB floppy to load the RAID or AHCI drivers in order to use all the SATA connectors with XP. Had I identified that I would be limited to only four SATA connectors then I would've gone with a different choice. As it is I'm stuck until I can slipstream a copy of XP with the suitable ahci and raid drivers. I'm dual booting XP and 7. If you're not using XP you nonetheless have to set up the RAID or AHCI drivers but it can be performed without a floppy.I knew it didn't have a floppy controller when I purchased it. I just didn't know about the SATA settings and drivers needed to make all the connectors work. Subsequent time I'm undertaking far more analysis.

The fix is much easier than you think, don't RMA, fix it oneself right now! Just relpace your on board battery (with a Duracell 3v lithium "coin" battery) and CLRTC jumper (loose fitting jumpers can lead to BIOS reset) perform CLRTC proceedure (See manual), enter BIOS, input right values for your process ( RAM timings, and so on) Do a program recovery ( To a time before bsod's),lastly udate windows. That's it! This is a exclusive and amazing mobo, please give this repair a try just before you give up on it, I guarantee, you will be rewarded! An unlucky handful of have had these troubles from 1st power up ,if your 1 just total all the measures up to "Do a system recovery" and rather do a fresh install of your O.S. These "bugs" have been happening to other mobo's as effectively even Intel based. It's happened to noob and specialist alike( See my other posts below) My apologies for the lack of comprehensive info in my prev. reviews ( My wife reminded me "not everyone's an electronics tech").

Great board with lots of attributes - such as IDE port (yes, I nonetheless have an IDE DVD burner), also, customer service of asus is exceptional. THIS BOARD DOES NOT HAVE five SATA PORTS IF Using IDE CONFIGURATION MODE!I was particularly dissipointed to know that this board does not help 5 SATA devices unless you are making use of ACHI or RAID configuration. Also, the overclocking isn't that good, but I didn't appear into it a complete lot, so I may well be wrong I gave this mobo 3 eggs since of the SATA port issue, even though it's no big deal to me given that I only have 3 SATA devices. Also, I consider I require to RMA it (according to ASUS support) because the BIOS keeps resetting itself following Windows updates (???) If I could give it a three.5 I would. My specs:ASUS M4N98TD EVOAthlon II x4 640 Ɠ.0GHzƞGb 1333 DR3 G.Capabilities Ram

It is rare now a days to come across a Great motherboard with an nvidia chipset and AMD socket. This motherboard is Great in each and every way. I have no other way to place it. I put a 965 in it, with OCZ AMD black edition ram, and a GTX 460. This thing is unstoppable. The improvement from my m2nSLI is like night and day. None whatsoever!!The asus express gate is quite stupid, but just don't install it!! It won't make me coffee.

Dual PCI Express 2. x16. 980 chip provides very best SLI efficiency to date. This board seems to have some really serious issues with video cards. The MEM OK function must only run when the button is pressed according to the manual but it appears to run on every boot. It fails to read the memory on the video card adequately which means it in no way loads BIOS. The laptop or computer appears to be operating but absolutely nothing ever takes place. I got BIOS to load as soon as after letting it run for five minutes. I flashed the BIOS to make certain it was updated, personal computer rebooted and BSOD ahead of windows even came up. It then failed to load BIOS once more. This is the second board I have tried with the same result. Read through other peoples ratings on ASUS boards on newegg and discover all the people obtaining issues with BIOS not loading. It is due to this exact same issue. I attempted two GTX 295 cards as nicely as an 8800GTS and all 3 failed. Returned both boards and purchased an MSI board and am running all three cards with no problem. This was the final ASUS board I will ever get.

Board is quickly! Did not develop this laptop or computer to be a gaming machine but I might have to change my thoughts on that! Immediately after purchasing a unique motherboard from NewEgg which necessary an RMA I picked this one particular and I am glad I did. The other a single would run a minute or 2 and then freeze. I have had zero issues with this motherboard. After using all the exact same components that would not work on the returned motherboard I just plugged every thing in and the technique booted right up. I did not configure anything in the bios. Due to the fact this is for work I did not play with any of the OC options. I wanted a stable computer to get some work carried out and this method so far is just that. I have heard there are challenges with sound on this but I am utilizing a sound card. I have 8 GB value ram in this factor and I am running 2 7900 GTs in SLI. Cheap AMD quad core. I did fire up UT3 on this computer and it ran wonderful - much better than my dedicated gaming rig which price massive bucks. Now I am thinking I really should get two nice Nvidia Video cards and make this my gaming rig!

i purchased this to run 6 cores and to use xfire ƒ video cards) Does each of them fine! When it goes to the motherboard page on startup where it says press d2, del, f8 that stuff it says only four cores are working however in device manager and in the processes menu all 6 appear to be working. I don't like how the bottom video card slot tends to make huge video cards chill on major of the south bridge.

Lot's of tiny issues place this board above your common board. Installation is simple. Most anybody can do this. I loved the Q extenders for hooking up the front panel connectors. I didn't use the drivers on the DVD. I updated by way of the net. Runs like a champ, a extremely rapid champ. OC's decently. No mounting hardware. No standoffs or nothing at all. Surprising. Glad I had extras in my toolkit. Make sure you save any screws if you are upgrading. If not I hope your new situation comes with it.

This was my 1st computer make. Almost everything was a snap and still operates smoothly. The instructions were useful and uncomplicated to adhere to. This was my initial time going into the BIOS and executing anything on my own, but the manual produced issues genuinely clear. Also, I was in a position to set up a Raid (just for enjoyable) devoid of also considerably trouble. I attribute a lot of the success to the board's ease of use. None.

Problem resolved. It would appear some other folks are having the similar problem and aren't able to figure out the repair, as a outcome an AWSOME mobo is finding a negative rep.I hope this information helps adjust that.BTW I've got 2 asus gtx 470's in SLI,the lower card covers the battery, it's feasible that heating is responsible for the battery dying so young. Seems like a wonderful board for overclocking. After you disable Express Gate, it's stable as a rock. Express gate is ON by default and produced my technique Very unstable. I'd practical experience random crashes, primarily when I was gaming or listening to music in iTunes or a internet browser. It was hard to pin down, but the moment I disabled Express Gate, my complications went away. I forgot to do my homework just before upgrading to this. DDR3 and DDR2 are not compatible. Oops! Had to purchase new ram with this.

I am contemplating developing a new method around this board. I like sli and the 980 chipset. At present I am utilizing a MSI NF980-G65 bought from Newegg :) and it is true that only 4 of the sata ports are intermediately but you can effortlessly enable AHCI support from XP when it is currently installed. According to the Newegg guidelines I can't post a URL to the web page but there is a repair that installs the AHCI drivers even though in XP and is simple. I just utilized it two weeks ago to rebuild my two systems that had the dilemma. It isn't a hack and it utilizes nForce drivers that are developed for the 980 chipset and when you are performed you can use the Install Disk to install existing drivers. All this does is enables AHCI from a existing XP install devoid of possessing to reinstall XP. Right here is how to do it.Google MSI Forums. The very first entry need to be the a single you want.In the Forums Search window sort "BSOD in Winxp SP3 when I allow AHCI SATA mode" You need to get one particular search result began by a user who's name begins with a "V".Read the page till you get to the third reply and it is by "V" once more. Follow individuals instructions and it functions each and every time.Be sure that when you restart the personal computer immediately after installing the drivers in IDE mode that you go into BIOS and switch to AHCI mode or you will get the BSOD.You should have installed XP in standard IDE mode not AHCI mode for this to operate. It functions on the two 980 based MSI boards I have and because the ASUS uses the similar drivers this must function. Don't let the AHCI issue avert you from getting these 980 based boards. They are very good boards and frankly I'd like to see more of them.I hope this post is authorized and I hope this works for you. If it does, spread the word so this problem repair, which isn't addressed in any 980 manuals, is identified to as numerous potential buyers as feasible. And as generally, Buy Newegg!!!

Handles everything I throw at it very well, the core unlocker is remarkable, as properly. I did testing with it on and off and it really assists with substantial CPU loads... Especially with operating numerous games and/or intensive applications, like Folding @ House. I have an AMD Phenom II X4 3400Mhz, and now I run Folding @ House constantly no matter what I'm doing, I under no circumstances see this processor hit 100%, I even run it with Crysis, and it doesn't flinch. In-game I see only as high as 60-70% CPU usage.I switched motherboards with no reinstalling Windows, I run Windows 7 64bit.I went from a 590SLi to this, and Windows didn't genuinely care at all. When I started it up, it asked to install drivers for the board virtually instantly. All in all, my hardware loves this motherboard. I haven't had any issues with it at all. Previously mentioned, there's no sufficient room amongst the PCI and PCI-E slots, my GTX 275 is so fat it hangs more than a PCI slot and tends to make it unusable. As a outcome, my sound card has to go into the second PCI slot. Not a enormous dilemma for me, seeing as I don't SLi, but need to be noted for any individual who has plans on SLi and has a PCI device. The pc has difficulty coming back from sleep mode and going into sleep mode automatically. I can do it manually just fine. But this difficulty existed on my old motherboard, I think it's a Windows issue, but I'm not positive. I can't fairly blame the board.I went from a 590SLi like I previously stated, to this board, and I also switched from a dual core 2.61GHz AMD to a Phenom II X4 three.4GHz, and went from 4GB DDR2 to 4GB DDR3 memory, all at the very same time. Windows handled it incredibly properly.Later on although, I got 4 much more GB of the DDR3 memory, and the pc bluescreened twice when I got into Windows, about 5 minutes right after it was on, until I shut it off and reseated them, blew on the sockets and pins, and switched the slots amongst the two sticks, and it was fine following wards.Sometimes the core unlocker won't activate right after you've turned the computer system off and unplugged one thing internally like a hard drive. But restarting immediately after it gives error usually fixes it.

SLI X2 X16 slots !!!! Core Unlocker ,Turbo V (for overclocking) !! The bios has so many selections that I contemplate this to be one of the most customizable AM3/SLI/DDR3 Boards that Asus makes !! Almost everything worked good out of the box. No issues at all. I dont know how people today complain about the drivers ....... Go to the websites and download the drivers from Nvidia and Asus's web sites !!! The board also has usb 2. ports galore and also supports esata and Firewire . Wonderful board, wonderful high quality, and great price tag. Thank you asus . I have and always be a life long fan !!! Asus please design and style the SLI slots better in the future !!! When utilizing my SLI I can\'t insert my Creative HD sound card mainly because the cards are so close with each other. Asus I also liked it greater when you put the SATA ports facing towards the front and not on the side. I have a huge situation and its type of a nuisance plugging my cords in the side SATA ports . Its dangerous mainly because I can\'t see what I am carrying out. I know other customers have the identical problems. If your a new tech , don't write a poor assessment since you dont know what you are performing. This drives me crazy on this website mainly because you people dont do your research prior to attempting to develop your computers and then give a good product a bad critique and also give NEWEGG a tricky time. DO YOUR Investigation Before Creating !!!!!! READ BLOGS,POSTS,and TECH testimonials !!!! Every ASUS board I have ever used has by no means failed on me and this is because I do my study !!! Don't overclock the snot out of your personal computer and then wonder why it failed in six months and then whine and complain about what a poor product it is. Upkeep your personal computer and usually back-up your settings for testing. As I mentioned just before, the more the overclock the far more the possibility it will have shorter life if you dont know what your doing . DO YOUR Research you new techs !!!
