Worked with each SATA and PATA drive I've used it with on both Macs and PCs. Annoying cabling, low-cost energy connector Plug the power in initial, then plug the drive into the adapter, and plug the USB cable in last.

This worked superior than anticipated following reading the other critiques posted right here. I used in on an IDE notebook drive and on a DVD sata drive, each with no problems and no overheating troubles. It didn't even get warm! Box shows that it supports Mac, Linux, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Also, supports HDDs up to 2TB. This may be an updated model since the packaging shows W7. It looks well made and top quality cables and energy supply. I am a happy camper with this buy. Instructions are a joke (because there aren't any). I would adhere to the connect order as stated in other posts: Connect to device, power up Adapter, plug-in USB.

Does the job and the cost is correct.SAT and IDE connector is a plus. None but I did not come across the USB cable to be thin and flimsy. As a matter of fact, it is very stout. The case didn't appear to be "Squishy". Now, if I stood on it or drove my auto more than it, there might be a difficulty.

It's worked on every drive I've attempted it on - Sata, IDE, and even an old IDE that had Windows 95 on it. It's been a fantastic tool for the 2 years I've owned it. USB cable is shorter than a device like this should be, but it's nevertheless usable. Power connector for the brick is a bit malleable - meaning that an individual not paying attention could reverse the power connector and lead to severe issues. That's why it gets only 4 eggs. All of the unfavorable critiques I've seen for this device seem to have one issue in frequent - power problems causing harm. All of these could effectively be induced by the low cost and malleable plastic of the power connector allowing the energy to be reversed and killing whatever it's connected to. Spend attention to what you are making use of and it's a fantastic tool.

I get a lot of use out of this point between the different jobs I go to, it's a good tool to have handy! None so far. Some men and women stated the cord is a little flimsy. I agree to a particular extent, but I type of like it mainly because it's additional flexible and simple to pack away. It appears fairly sturdy overall.

Uncomplicated to use, I necessary to take details off of a laptop thats screen burned out. Only removed the drive and plugged it in. Operates like any removable storage device. The drive connector piece feels type of cheap and flimsy, but it was 16.99 when I purchased it, so I actually can't complain. It nonetheless does it's job well :)

Amazing access to hard drives. Great for backing up data, operating virus scans, and recovering lost information. Have a single at household runs excellent. Utilized one at perform. Fried two drives before I realized it. Contacted manufacturer. Sent me a new one particular. Worked for a whilst and fried yet another two drives. When I say fried, I imply literally burning smell from the HDD circuit boards. Won't be getting one more one particular or returning the present one. Also high a danger utilizing them. Its a good tool, but if the device fails it sends 100 volts to any drives plugged in. Will be searching for a device that has a superior style. Maybe much more cash, but much less headaches.

Performs with almost everything I've thrown at it, makes recovering information really straightforward, particularly with laptop difficult drives when they are broken to the point they won't boot. NO DOCUMENTATION!!!! You can fry challenging drives with this if you don't connect the darn point adequately, and there aren't any warnings/instructions included to make sure you are aware of this. Minus 1 egg for the lack of documentation, in all probability could be minus two. Have three of these, I do laptop or computer repair, and they are invaluable tools. Connect it wrong, specially if you don't plug in energy suppy and usb cable to pc Just before YOU CONNECT THE DRIVE, and you'll end up with a dead challenging drive from a energy surge. Comply with that one particular uncomplicated rule and you'll be fine. Make positive you don't plug power connector upside down either.

Fantastic tool to image and recover drives of all forms. Power plug (four pin) from brick can be inserted backwards and you will let the magic smoke out of your hdrive. Even although the plug is indexed, it is actually straightforward to plug it in backwards. You will require a 4 pin splitter to power the adapter and an IDE drive.

This usb saved my life! I read a couple evaluations that weren't good, but this specific item was recommended by a person I trust, so I ordered it. Turns out that as extended as you pay consideration and cover your bases, it'll operate like a dream! In no time at all I had all the data from my harddrive recovered and on the new laptop or computer! The only down side is the lack of directions that come with it. I had to go on the web to discover them - which I did, but it wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did if I hadn't. If you're not a personal computer geek, make certain you print out directions for use to prevent performing damage to your challenging drive.

Price was ideal. 1 piece config so all parts had been simple to preserve track. Tried to use it on 2 various Sata three.5" drives nowadays and neither would read. Walked away for three or 4 minutes, only to return to see the Bytecc SMOKING!! I was concerned about it catching fire, then I was MAD!! Both DRIVES Had been NOW DEAD!! Purchased 3 of these units for my students (computer tech teacher) and we don't have the cash to replace them or the Sata drives. Merely a fire hazard. Need to be pulled from NewEgg.

Yes, it's handy. Yes, it's transportable. Yes it can make life less complicated. It is prone to getting lost, kicked about, squashed below other junk in your drawers. It can burn up a USB port or a tricky drive in an instant if it ever gets damaged. I'm not some disgruntled noob. I've bought stuff from here given that 2004. All I'm saying is that I've had two of these and both of them ultimately malfunctioned to the degree that they brought on expensive harm. One burned up a USB port. The other 1 zapped and killed 2 challenging drives ahead of I realized it. When I want to connect a drive for whatever cause I just direct connect it now. I have a laptop adapter if I need it. The lesson learned right here is that this device is fine for occasional use. But if you're hooking up tough drives consistently like I do it's safer to do it the old fashion way.

Had 1 of these and a buddy needed to borrow it. Often worked nicely and very handy to cycle via these piled up drives. Gave that to friend and bought this one particular as a replacement Not a major deal for the item/price/design, but if you're not careful it'd be possible to bend a pin a bit less difficult than a completely enclosed. But employing it for fast connect and checks, or long term effectively supported drives, it's fantastic

Great device for everyone who doesn't want to spend hundreds of dollars at some tech retailer for all them to do is format your drive and reinstall your OS with your information. Reads SATA, 3.5" IDE, two.five" IDE. Generally all tough drives as of now minus possibly a 1.8" IDE? Maybe SATA III as well... Speed. Connects through USB as opposed to eSATA. Couldn't recognize a single tricky drive... It was an old 40gig lappy IDE. I just wanted to format it for some added space... I advise this product to everyone who has old computers and difficult drives lying around.

Great way to connect IDE, SATA drives to a pc for information recovery, diagnostics, etc. The initially 1 I had was great for over a year, then the AC adapter got so hot it melted the situation and also destroyed the drive attached to it. Ordered a different a single and inside two months it did the exact same thing. Has to be a defect in manufacturing. Not worth obtaining a third time. There are lots of other individuals out there.
