Its like a multi tool for drives and it just works. As mentioned prior to cable is a tad brief but not bad. For me my drives appear to spin at 100% the whole time therefore developing a Extremely hot drive right after 15 mins or so. This isn't a massive deal if you are just making use of it to transfer smaller amounts. But if you have a big quantity of data or have it plugged in for a even though the heat could corrupt files or ruin the drive.

Works properly and has allowed me to pull information from drives, with 1 caveat... Do NOT use the power brick included with this. It burnt out a DVD-RW I had and a tricky drive I was supposed to retrieve data from. Thank you Bytecc, now I have to tell my buyer I can't retrieve the data from their old drive. I pulled the PCB on the tricky drive and sure adequate 1 of the resistors coming from the power connector was charred. This point works fantastic, as long as you don't use their power adapter!

Effortless drive connection, powers notebook IDE drives without having power adapter by means of USB port. Flimsy case style and apparent flaws with power adapter shipped with some units. I've had a single of these for four years now and have by no means had a challenge with mine. My shop bought a single a handful of months ago and it functions fine as effectively. For the people possessing difficulty acquiring it to recognize IDE drives, the drive has to be set to Stand Alone or Master to operate adequately. Try it, and it JUST Operates...Never had a challenge with a SATA drive with either unit. We use our personal power supplies at my shop, even though. Mine hasn't had any challenge, but it was out of a lot from four years ago and perhaps they've switched suppliers.

Really valuable product to have in your bag. Some complain about small stuff but it is not a replacement for essentially plugging in a drive into your computer. It is a brief term remedy for data recovery. none.

I'm often possessing to pop the situation and hook them up, with this its all external and significantly easier. It will be handy to have for cold drives that sit in my secure as nicely. None but.

Trustworthy and does not have any troubles with connections like other people that I have worked with.I've had it for much more than 4 years and it works just as effectively as when it was new Compatibility with Maxtor DrivesNot sure if it is my unit or all of them but I've in no way been able to make it work with Maxtor Drives. 20GB drives show up as 1.5TB and so forth. I've tried additional than a dozen over the years up to 160GB ones. Changed the jumpers and so on. General I advocate this device. It took a although to break in the energy cord so that it inserted very easily into the device--may possibly just be put on and tear but substantially much better now than when I purchased it. So extended as you don't use Maxtor drives you really should be ok. WD, Quantum, Seagate, and Hatachi drives have often worked for me!

Allows me to pull all the data off old hard drives that were, until this point, paperweights. Functions on all HDDs. 2.five" IDE, three.five" IDE, and SATA. Power connection is really finicky. 1 bump will interrupt the power, and you superior prey you aren't in mid-write/read when that occurs. Also takes forever for the pc to recognize the device soon after USB is plugged in. NO instructions. Decent, but there is undoubtedly area for improvement. Connections need to be far more solid to hold involuntary power loss to a minimum.

Basic, handy, very compatible, uncomplicated to use.I often image drives to upgrade or backup. It is Considerably simpler to do this with the adapter. Quite a few instances I can leave the drive in the laptop or computer, detach the cables, attach this adapter, and run a usb back to my main personal computer to do the image. No will need to disassemble the computer. None If you function on computers, upgrade your installs, or just have backup drives that you want to use without having shopping for those ridiculous enclosures, then you Need THIS!

In a position to transfer data, run disk diags, Ghost/image a drive, run A/V scans off of the three key kinds of HDD connections and not have to crack the case of yet another machine. Elevated threat of ESD - but not mainly because of the device - merely due to the fact you have the drive outside of a machine. We use this all the time in our workplace to image laptop/tablet PCs, test other drives, and even run antivirus scans on an attached drive. Positive beats having to crack two computers and come across the correct power and data cables! I saw a couple of posts exactly where their drives died making use of this adapter. There is an elevated danger of ESD mainly because the connected drive is not in an enclosed container. And do not have the power or the USB connector plugged in before you plug in the drive! That's a confident-fire way of shorting out your harddrive.

When it does work extended adequate to conserve information, it comes in pretty handy. Most of the time it doesn't operate at all. the drive spins up but it is not observed in explorer. there had been no instructions that came with it either. Fried my dad's sata laptop drive. DO NOT USE WITH SATA LAPTOP DRIVES!!! All in all, i would say you get what you pay for on this 1. I would try a thing else.

Quite good and portable. The reality you can plug in IDE drives, still a lot of people making use of them and I have some laying around I would like to make use of for backup purposes. I plugged it in wrong once and lost a drive, thank goodness the drive wasn't worth anything to me, but it did teach me a lesson on how to pay attention on the drives that do matter. DOH! This thing is so portable and straightforward to get around with, and it doesn't take up considerably room at all in a zipper case or lil tool box. I've utilised it on each sata and IDE drives currently and it works quite nicely. If you lay it down on a flat surface it occasionally will shed a connection due to the device bending rather of laying flat. I discovered as long as I have a 320gig or greater hard drive, then I can stand those up on finish and that functions great due to the difficult drive case being wide adequate to stand up. I utilised a lil 250gig narrow challenging drive and had to prop it up to maintain the device from bending which occured when attempting to lay flat. Flat is not superior anyway, you want air flow about the whole factor. I'm so satisfied with this I went ahead and ordered yet another.

- Convenient though it works- IDE to USB nevertheless works(for now) - FRIES HDDs when used with SATA connector I've had this adapter for a excellent three+ years now and items have been adequate until not too long ago. My friend's personal computer died and asked me to backup her files, so naturally I utilized this device. Nonetheless, upon plugging it in, I didn't hear the drive boot up and saw SMOKE coming out of the bottom of the drive. Needless to say, it fried the PCB of the drive. Now, I thought that it was a drive problem since the HDD was making clicking sounds prior. After this incident, I utilised it on my WD 1.five TB media drive with no sign of trouble... till last night. Now my drive won't turn on any longer, even with one more SATA external enclosure that I have. Now I have to attempt to replace the PCB, which will be harder than it sounds due to SATA firmwares.Save your self a large hassle, acquire an additional adapter(preferably a dependable enclosure) for SATA drives.

I have had excellent achievement with a similar adapter from Bytec, so I ordered this 1. That's the only pro. When I plugged the power plug in the very first time, it sparked and it was dead. There goes my income... it's dead now and now warranty to replace it. This unit is much more poorly developed. Also, the item desires a warranty for these issue. I doubt I'll buy a different Bytec product due to no warranty. Tell your friends to remain away!
