Excellent range and signal strength. Incredibly easy to use. Doesn't come with Tomato Firmware from the factory :( I bought this router to replace an Apple airport express N, because I wanted much better signal strength all through my apartment. Don't get me wrong the Apple router is a trooper, but I wanted consistence in my wireless signal.I was undertaking some investigation and my alternatives came down to a Linksys Wrt54g or the Buffalo Whr-hp-g54. I'm fairly glad I chose this negative boy. I flashed Tomato 1.28, raised the transmit energy to 18mW and Voila! This router can spank any other router's behind. I tried Belkin N1 and didn't like it. Don't be fooled since this router is not classified as N. I can inform you, devoid of any arrogance in my voice( or text), that this router has the strongest signal and fastest speed I've ever observed in a router. Mind you I'm getting conservative in raising the transmit power, you can absolutely raise it higher and add a greater acquire antenna to increase signal even additional. You can't go wrong with this router and Tomato on it, I guarantee it!!!

This is the finest Wireless G router sold in the USA period! Rock solid with any firmware. I've utilized one particular of my four units in extreme temperature conditions (-10F) and it by no means misses a beat. Exceptional logging abilities, easy to use GUI, ideal if you know your stuff! Great 24x7 US based tech assistance is usually worth a mention. The documentation is somewhat lacking. If you don't have experiance with networking and configurting a router I would nevertheless advocate that you purchase this item. The tech assistance much more than makes up for this con! They will have you up and running in no time. This company is JiGiganormis in Asia. I personally own two of these units and have been recommending them for years. In reality I just had a household member toss out their old LinkSys WRT54G (that was totally flaking out soon after three years) and go with this. Right away they noticed a distinction in range and throughput.

Seems okay router with decent signal strength. Time will tell how good it is ?! Not truly a con but the physique is produced of low-cost plastic stuff and its very light in weight. Does not give you a good feel when you pick it up - seems a cheapo ! This router has DHCP disabled by default. It took me some time to figure this out.

This Buffalo Wireless-G High Power Router and Access Point WHR-HP-G54 has served me faithfully due to the fact receiving it and placing it in operation a handful of days right after I bought it from Newegg on 14 March 2006. In the three years 11 months of operation, this router has not "locked" the connection, wired or wireless, even a single time. This router has generally been utilised in conjunction with a Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP Ethernet Port Wireless-G MIMO Performance Ethernet Converter that was also bought from Newegg on the same date. The security and flawless overall performance of these two devices when employing Buffalo's AirStation 1-Touch Secure System (AOSS) are the only reason I have not replaced the stock firmware with an open supply option such as DD-WRT. As for signal power and sensitivity, this router is in the basement and my notebook personal computer can connect to it wirelessly from any space on either the 1st or second floor. Although it worked out of the box, I changed settings to configure NAT, DHCP, and other parameters to suit my application. Effecting several configuration setting alterations in the stock firmware in one sitting is a tedious process as you have to wait for the router to be restarted (automatically by the firmware) right after practically every and every alter. The firmware in other routers I have used take a various method: they allow you to postpone the restart until all desired changes, or at least all desired adjustments on a provided page, have been indicated. Though the firmware tends to make substantial reconfiguration of this router a tedious method, the flawless operation of the configured router makes it a accurate "set it and forget it" device. Before acquiring this router, I had owned models from Linksys, D-Link, and Netgear and all had "locked" the connection at instances, requiring power cycling to reset. The flawless overall performance of this router in stark contrast to my experiences with the other brands, and fear of repeating those experiences, have kept me from replacing the WHR-HP-G54 with a Wireless-N gigabit router. I have been spoiled by a item that has set the standard of operation against which all other routers must be measured.

Exceptional flexibility and efficiency right after Tomato 1.27 upgrade. Construction a tiny flimsy, stock firmware sucks. I purchased this to improve my wireless range from my old D-link. With stock firmware it was not a lot diverse in my dining space, exactly where I like to perform. With a some time and retries I managed to install Tomato 1.27 and then search down some directions on employing it. It took a even though to locate out exactly where and how to enhance the amplifier energy, but oh what a difference it created. The default amplifier energy setting was ten mW. (Look below Advanced, most of the way down). You can turn it way up from there. One reviewer has been working with his set at 70 for a couple of years, but as my unit is in a space that gets hot in the summer time I decided to attempt 40mW. Wow, signal strength went from amongst low and great to exceptional. Zip, zip, zip. Then i decided to see how small power would get me an adequete signal so the unit would not run as hot. I took it all the way down to 15mW and am nevertheless acquiring a good signal. I am delighted, but only soon after adding the Tomato firmware.

Price tag, upgradeability, reputation. 5 eggs if BuffaloɅ-tends to make the stand a lot more robust or adds weight to the unit - 4 or more ethernet cables cause it to fall over quicklytwo-ship with Tomato or DD-WRT - Buffalo firmware is from 2006. My Tomato upgrade gotchas: use LAN, not WAN port for the initial setup; attempt to ping 192.168.11.1 to verify all is effectively just before the .bat file is run. Win7 users almost certainly need to have to allow TFTP service in "Windows Functions" ahead of beginning.

Arrived on time, great packing, shiny and new looking. Butch searching aerial. Does broadcast powerfully. Would not synchronize with the comcast voip modem. LAN acess only. Effortless setup did not work. Manual config did not function. Internet connection wizard did not work. A lot of how-to's and walk via's did not function. Manufacturer tech assistance was unavailable regardless of repeated calls (and long fruitless waits with surprise! disconnetcs right after 20 mins) to their 24ǝ number. I will flash with Tomato, void the warranty and we'll go from there. Went back to my vonage d-link voip router vwr-vd which has been bullet proof for 4 years. I had by no means utilised the wireless characteristics on it but shazam! it worked in seconds - I'm writing on it now. Why did I order a new router?Anyhoo: hardware - great. Firmware - muy malo.

Excellent connectivity, fast, fantastic size, fantastic router as soon as you get it installed. The reset button didnt seem to reset all of the settings so when I apparently messed with it though I was drunk I couldnt get the settings to go back to factory. Either that or the default settings were to disable DNS servers and manually add an ip address, allowing only 1 computer on the web at a time. Tech support is non existent, fantastic luck.

One word: TOMATOGigE on all 5 ports Ɣ LAN, 1 WAN)USB for NAS - COOL!Operates fantastic, does QoS, Tomato does better than DDWRTTomato even shows true-time bandwidth and accumulated bandwidth, as effectively as UPnP, wireless neighbor scanL7 filters accessible through Tomato as properly I believe Buffalo firmware doesn't do static DHCP (based on MAC address). I haven't run Buffalo firmware for more than 2 years. If this had ten럼񲿘 ports, I wouldn't have upgraded to Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH. But WZR-HP-G300NH working with DDWRT doesn't do MAC-based or port-based QoS (G54 with Tomato does). http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatohttp://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?fUSER BEWARE, be certain to use right techniques mentioned in the FAQ:http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaqand the README file in the zip file. You'll have to upload the TRX file via TFTP but immediately after that you can upload through webpage. Be certain to read the section "Installing from Buffalo's firmware" in the README file of the Tomato zip file.

Supports Opensource Firmware such as DD-WRT or Tomato. Super quick and stable with those firmwares. The stock firmware is sufficent for the each day type of user, but the opensource firmware provides you added stability and security stock firmwares can lack. Not cheaper This is my second Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. Bought my original one particular 3 years ago from circuit city. I've ran each dd-wrt and tomato firmware and my prime choose of the two is tomato firmware. Both have their pros and cons. I've found tomato to be much more stable and the range a bit additional. Also contains much less settings which aren't require that are included with dd-wrt.I also had difficulty obtaining the open supply firmware onto the router with windows 7. I ended up possessing to use my old windows xp box to effectively flash the new router.

Very robust signal that can be picked up reasonably far from router. No lost connections. Increased speed. Simple to flash third party firmware. Unable to access certain selection with out being straight connected by way of Ethernet cable. Not adequate to decrease item excellent. I'm applied to dlink and linksys routers. I have been faithful to both businesses for years, but switching to buffalo's router has been a choice I don't see myself regretting. It's wonderful to have a reliable connection that I know will stay strong in the course of lengthy uploads by way of FTP.

Rock solid. Functions and performs and keeps on working. Its not wireless-N and it doesn't have gigabit switch ports but I knew that and didn't need it. I have three of these. Purchased them about three years ago. Loaded them with Tomato Firmware correct after I got them. I don't recall if I ever attempted the default firmware but most mfg's don't get it correct anyway. I don't assume Tomato is in improvement any longer but it kicks *rear*

Works fine and intermittent wireless connectivity (@wpa, aes) is corrected from my prior Linksxx product...So far great item, Current firmware intuitive sufficient and functions for most individuals I'd picture... Despite the fact that took a number of attempts to lock into wireless wpa/aes mode, but wpa/tkip set up instantly... Seems I did get aes mode set, so does function fine now... Nice Unit. Great Price... Not actually con, but light caveats...Bought to replace a flaky wireless linux based linksxx...Wanted the similar ability to update to aftermarket (tomatoe as on my other) firmware as posted. Firmware updating far more of a hassle, per instructions, compared to what I had completed before, so didn't likelihood on it yet. Also stated can't go back to orig firmware possibly if required !But, once again for my use thus far, stock firmware does the trick and am pleased.

Stable! No drops, no timeouts, no resetting!Fast. I get the most out of my modest 3. Mbps DSL.Exceptional range. My home is extremely modest, but even outside, my telephone is nonetheless picks up a powerful signal.Included software will hold your hand by means of the setup procedure if you want- I've already suggested this router to a number of persons with below average technical ability. So far I do not have a single complaint. Operates exceptionally well with all WiFi devices- PCs, Macs, phones and iPods.

It functions somewhat. Appear good, has fantastic range. Could only get 54mbps. Tech support said it works, you dont want 125mpbs. Now immediately after 5 months having to reboot on a typical basis. Keeps dropping out.Business's tech support just doesn't care. My old netgear got 108mbps. This was a step back. I was searching for a unit to preserve me going until the N units became additional stable. I guess its time to acquire an other unit of some sort, possibly a N unit.

Flashed it with tomato as soon as I got it so can't comment on the default firmware. It had a bit of difficulty syncing with my comcast modem at first but now all appears well. Wireless is signal is excellent amongst floors in my residence. I upgraded froma d-link di524 and my speedtest.net speed results went from 15 mbps download with the dlink to 33 mbps with this router. I am really happy so far. ethernet connection lights are on back of router rather of front.

The best router - for what it does - there ever was. Brief ftp window for initial firmware flush. The new(er) Buffalo has switched to the Ralink chipset. (Unlike this router which is Broadcomm.) Its a quite fantastic issue because Broadcom couldn't hold the candle to Ralink.

Wonderful signal. Stable router. Firmware is junk. I purchased this router mainly because it was sold as an "open source" router, which has due to the fact been removed from its description. If you ever upgrade the firmware with any other firmware, your warranty is void! The firmware has not been updated because 2006! It lacks basic functions like DDNS. This precise exact same router is getting sold in other nations with DD-WRT installed with a full warranty. They are obviously not going to update the firmware due to the fact they count on you to void your warranty with 3rd party firmware. You have a selection...either use the garbage firmware or take the danger of upgrading to DD-WRT or Tomato and hoping your router does not die due to a defect. This router would have receiced five stars were it not for the firmware fiasco.

Overall straightforward set-up. Ran two of these as repeaters in a trailer park for my parents and their neighbors in Florida with out concerns. Located it quite substantially as straight forward as can be for security and setup. The pdf manual has some fantastic walkthroughs as nicely. Had to move the routers/antennas a particular way to enhance the signal strength for the repeaters to operate...but that's not a big deal. My dad checks for intrusions on every day basis. Was entirely astounded when he saw how many flood attacks and IP spoofing was going on in such a remote location. Very handy function!

Excellent performance, powerful and clear wireless signal. Uncomplicated setup. Can be updated to third party firmware, which tends to make this an incredible router for the price. Connectivity lights are in the back. The default firmware, even though quite sufficient, lacks a few functions, and is horribly slow during the very first configuration as it's continually saving information. All in all, this is a rock solid router. The default firmware is passable, but I went and installed Tomato's firmware instead, and glad I did. Between the quantity of flexibility, the QoS system, and the other bells and whistles, this router is fantastic. I boosted the signal strength a bit, and now I have a sturdy signal everywhere in the home (even most of the yard), vs several deadspots from my old Linksys. My only gripes would be the lights getting in the back of the unit exactly where you usually won't see them, and the inane amount of time it takes to save every single and every single setting with the stock firmware. If you're searching to replace your older junk router, this is the unit to get. Throw on Tomato (or your firmware of alternative), along with the low cost tag, this router is an excellent purchase.
