In fact, I'd spend double for this. This is the very first residential router I've truly been happy with. I've purchased four of these. I use a single as my primary WAP here at house. I use two of them in a wireless repeater bridge configuration at work. I also purchased one particular for a wireless repeater for a client.DD-WRT is seriously effortless to install. I seriously only glanced at the stock firmware, so I can't speak for or against that. But all I had to do was TFTP one particular file to get DD-WRT on it. Smooth! None to speak of! Go Buffalo! I'll be upgrading a leg of my house network to 802.11n soon... I'm planning on going back to Buffalo for that hardware. I also strategy to continue recommending Buffalo hardware to my buyers, since it definitely tends to make me appear good when their network functions the way it's supposed to, for a reasonable value! :)

Easily flashes to 3rd party firmware. Operates wonderfully with Tomato. Functions with DD-WRT, but demands frequent restarts. I've discovered that with high targeted traffic on DD-WRT, the router will will need a hard restart right after two-3 days. With Tomato, I haven't had to reset the router but.

Excellent range - in a position to get outstanding signal strength at the opposite side of my residence. Incredibly stable - has been operating for a week with no needing a restart. Accepts third party firmware like Tomato and DD-WRT. Flashing to third party firmware demands you to use tftp. It can't be accomplished through the firmware upgrade tab in the Buffalo firmware. On the DD-WRT wiki it explains how to do this. Essentially there's a tftp flashing utility you can download, and you need to unplug and plug the router back in and run the flashing utility at just the proper time (when the red light on the front comes on the second time after restarting). The Buffalo firmware is fairly junky and fundamental, so you'll surely want to switch to DD-WRT or Tomato. As soon as it's flashed, this is a incredibly stable router with wonderful range. The flashing process is a small weird, but well worth carrying out.

Really dependable. Small in size. Functions ideal with DDWRT option firmware. Terrific range for being a G unit. Buffalo's own firmware is not very very good. I have 12 of these in different client web sites, such as my own. If you want a effectively made, rarely demands a reboot, wireless-G device that can run DD-WRT appear no further.

Quite good coverage. Uncomplicated to use net interface. I haven't had it drop a connection yet. DD-WRT Help, nice to know it's obtainable if I want, but I don't use it. Once again very great signal strength, it's not uncommon to see 20+ wireless routers in this neighborhood but this 1 never appears to be troubled by interference. No help for N. High priced for a G router. No gigabit Ethernet All in all this router is a solid performer. If you just will need to replace an old G router this a single does the job. I didn't use the installation CD, but for anybody that has ever setup a router it shouldn't take much more than a min or two logged in by way of the net interface to be setup and running

Good connectivity, signal strength!!!!! Had a couple of issues setting this up. Make positive to unplug cable modem prior to connecting it to the router and that router is unpluged also. Plug modem first and wait till modem is ready before powering router up. Not having a manual (manual on cd) even though performing set up is trublesome. The "easy set up" from CD wasn't uncomplicated at all. Make positive you read manual very first ahead of intallation. I identified the resolution to my issue at the Buffalo forums. I had to establish connection from the web-base page of the router, considering that following the "easy" set up from the CD didn't work for me. Kept giving my Wan connection issues. I had a Linksys WTR54g that was not allowing 2 of my 3 wireless PCs to connect. As soon as I set this puppy up, all Pcsƒ laptops, 1 desktop) are operating flawlessly. My signal connection strength with the Linksys fluctuated from 18 - 32 Mbps. Now with the Buffalo, all Pcs are at full 54Mbps strength. This is with out Tomato 1.28 which I will program to flash later.

Didn't have a opportunity to attempt it out. Had to return it since an AC adapter challenge. TWICE!!! I did not have a opportunity to try it out as each occasions the router would not turn on due to a power adapter problem. I was psyched to get a router with such high ratings. The negative factor was I by no means had a chance to try it out. I am going to return it and locate a various brand name due to the fact the workmanship of these routers is poor.

tomato compatible!! took awhile!... had trouble on vista/xpǝ... took Ӯhours to come across a way to install... Use the default instruction for NIC...Updating the firmware make certain you add/remove program and install the tftp on win7 and then run CMD and then type in "tftp -i 192.168.11.1 put tomato.trx" make certain you are in right directly... note: make confident the tomato is in the directly you are making use of it use "cd.. and cd commands"

Buffalo's WHR-G54-HP is the quite definition of "great household/small office wireless router". It's stable, well developed and uncomplicated to set up. Even though the Buffalo supplied firmware will suffice and works reasonably properly, using DD-WRT or other third party firmware will seriously let this thing perform at its peak.I've replaced numerous failed routers of every single brand there is (except other Buffalo units) for consumers with these and other Buffalo models--and not 1 has ever been troublesome. It truly is a "plug it in and it works" knowledge. I also have units operating in several diverse capacities--such as a few sets linking two buildings together more than lengthy distances--and once again, they just don't quit...not even in unheated/unconditioned spaces. My only complaints would be in regards to availability--it's not usually easy to get these (though Newegg is pretty good with supplies) and Buffalo's included setup software. Buffalo's own setup software is a excellent effort, but it just lacks some polish and is somewhat clunky in places. If you're in the market for a wireless router, this is the 1 to buy. What it doesn't have in terms of fancy characteristics, looks and wireless-N support it far more than makes up for in terms of easy reliability. You won't regret getting one of these units.

Functions wonderful with my VPN. Strong wireless signal even with stock antenna. Fantastic value for the cash Cumbersome, unintuitive setup interface. Fewer setup selections than similarly priced routers. Bought this because my D-Link DIR 655 was incompatible with my new VPN (Strong VPN). The Buffalo works fantastic out of the box. I bought it because it is compatible numerous custom firmware solutions (dd-wrt, tomato, and so on) that are suggested for people having VPN concerns. I didn't require to use them, but its great to know you have the option if you want it.

This router is perfect when paired with open source firmware such as tomato or dd-wrt. Both are very easy to install as nicely. Wish the price tag was lower, but it's nevertheless a great deal! I would extremely recommend this router, specifically if you run tomato firmware on it. I've ran my Buffalo with both DD-WRT and tomato firmware and from what I've skilled, the range with tomato is significantly greater than when the router is running DD-WRT. I've also located tomato easier to configure and much less bloated like DD-WRT.I have the transmit power on my router set to 18 and it runs perfectly. I get a excellent signal everywhere in my 3000+ sq. ft. household.Unless you're in the industry for 802.11N, I would very recommend receiving 1 or much more of these routers.

Great reliability, flexibility and range. When you flash this to tomato, the applications for this router are nearly endless. Over the last two years i have purchased almost ten of these for various applications, and have by no means discovered a dilemma Does not come with tomato on it. I have installed these in hotels and offices utilizing WDS and have by no means heard any complaints from the customers. All this for a fraction of the value of commercial routers and access points. The .BAT file that comes with tomato to aid you TFTP the firmware more than makes it quite simple to flash to tomato.

Works much better than I believed it would. Had worries about flashing to Tomato but had no hiccup. Easy. Uncomplicated. Pleased I purchased this and paid 50% additional than a cheap access point. I use this as an AP in front of Astaro Secure Gateway. None. Not one particular. It's all great. It works so considerably superior than my D-link Di524 and 614. It functions better than my Netgear MR814V2, and much better than my Belkin F5D7230-four V2000. The security alternatives work wonderfully. It's certainly quicker. The GUI is understandable and the web page survey turned up a lot of stuff I didn't see prior to :-) What's not to like about that? To upgrade (it was an upgrade!) I just downloaded Tomato 1.27 and unpacked it to a directory on my C drive. (I am employing vista 32 bit). There is a batch file included with the firmware. I unplugged the router right after setting my NIC to 192.168.11.2. I ran the batch file, plugged in the WHR-HP-54G. The TFTP did it's thing. I waited two minutes with a stop watch. I set my NIC to dhcp and boom, I connected. My goal was to have high speeds with the capability to tie-down access to particular MAC addresses and only give them access through specific hours (yep, I have teens in the residence). Functions Great!

Functions wonderful once you get it set up. I flashed with DD-WRT firmware and the functionality is great! Nowhere in the set up does it recommend finding the MAC id from previous router. You should clone old euipment for DSL connection Would obtain again, now the test of time to see if it is much more durable than Linksys

I have two of these, running Tomato firmware and operating in Bridged mode. This router is extremely stable and can operate more than a long range. With Tomato installed, it's uncomplicated to configure and sustain.Supports WPA2.Variable wireless broadcast power. Buffalo's firmware is mediocre at best. They should just license Tomato and ship units with that installed. There is no way to mount the router to something. The weight of a few Ethernet cables can effortlessly drag it off a shelf. I've had to drill holes in a shelf and use zip ties to hold one in place. This router does have two antennas. 1 is internal, and the other external.Don't turn up your nose at this router because it's "only" G and not N. Probabilities are your broadband connection won't be able to fill a solid G-connection's bandwidth, anyway.I identified flashing the Tomato firmware to be straight-forward and painless. Just read and follow the directions on the Tomato web site. This factor Works! If you're tired of getting to bang your head against the wall to get your home wireless to work, get this router!

I ordered the router on Tues. afternoon and it arrived 25 hours later. Due to the fact I live close to Chatham, that is incredibly impressive. The router seems to be a wonderful purchase. It does the job and can be modified if required. I agree with the other reviewers about the interface. Since I could not use the setup program, I had to use the manual and located it and the other instructions really confusing. Buffalo has performed a extremely very good, if only you can locate the stuff. In addition, they have some inaccurate details in the manual. According to the manual you can simply reset the password with the top button-not correct.

PriceInstalled dd-wrt with no mishaps. So far it is stable with no concerns.Newegg got it here in two days with no shipping charges!!!!!! Not any that come to thoughts. It is only a G only so if you need to have cutting edge then this may well not be the router for you. I wanted a long range solid performer and that is what I got. I will be concerned about an n router subsequent time.

Runs third party firmware rather properly. Read all the evaluations here and didn't even bother with stock firmware. Installed Tomato 1.28 appropriate away. Throughput is off the charts wired and wireless. None so far. One thing you really should know ahead of installing Tomato on a windows 7 or vista rig. Go to "programs and characteristics" in your control panel. On the left pick "turn windows capabilities on or off" Turn on "TFTP Client" . If it's not on Tomato will just laugh at you. The Tomato directions neglect to tell you that.

Went thru std firmware, was fine, but started not connecting to wireless laptop connection (wpa/aes) intermittently.Updated to Tomatoe, went fine at 1st and started very same intermittent not wanting to connect to wireless laptop.Went from Tomatoe to dd-wrt, which gave me capability to adj power output. I lowered it to lessen load on amps (which is what fails on linksxx units I've read, same broadcom chipset). Then learned is mandatory to do a full reset to dump out any remnantsof settings, and so on... from prev firmwares... Appears reliable now... hope it'll stay great now...*** Be positive to dump those old wireless property phones, unless you get new ones with "dect 6.?"... These won't disconnect your wireless router cuz they don't function in two.4Ghz range... Again is working nicely appropriate now and is fascinating checking out the open source firmwares

I've installed five of these, flashing all with Tomato. five are running currently and the oldest is at my parent's residence 1,000 miles away. That ought to be enough for you all - my 80 year old parents too far away for tech support with the router in a furnace room ࿰ deg year round) and by no means once had to reboot this bad boy. Also installed at two organizations that required QOS for their VOIP system and it works great. I even like the long power cord with the modest transformer in the middle. Wall mounting is a manual velcro sort affair. None

Extremely straightforward to set up. The easiest I have ever had and I've owned Netgear, Linksys, and D-Link. Any entry level user could set this up. I didn't like the reality the case didn't have the hole slides in the bottom or side, you know, the ones that you can put a couple of screws in the wall and slide the router onto. I like mounting my equipment to the wall and producing the cords neat. You couldn't do that with this 1. Ok, I'm a gamer and we have three xBox 360's in use in my house at one time. All use xBox Live regularly. I could in no way get the NATs completely open with the Linksys and Netgears. My brother-in-law was working with this model and by no means had any difficulties so I gave it a attempt. Without having to program anything, it recognized the xBoxes and open the NATs in all of them. Been gaming ever sense without having concern.

When it was working, it had great signal strength and extremely good transfer speed. From my office region - using the old modem, I got about three-four bars at about 48mbps. Right after swapping to the Buffalo router, my connection improved to full five bars at 54mbps. For some reason, I had trouble receiving several of my devices to stay connected. Once I set static IP addresses for each MAC, I stopped getting this dilemma... but it was rather annoying at very first. Also - my router just died a couple of weeks ago after I had it for about 11 and a half months. It won't even power up (tried resetting, attempted distinct plugs, nada). I'm going to try and get a replacement considering that the warranty is two years, but for now, it's back to my weak old backup Netgear :-/
