Crucial 2048MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz SODIMM Memory
Cons:Slightly more expensive than competitors' productsCompatibility issues with some Macs?
Pros:Company reputationQuality (module was made by Micron) |
I bought this product based on Crucial/Micron's reputation. So far, it has not disappointed me. It has resulted in a noticeable speed increase in a 20" iMac 2.0 GHz C2D running Mac OS X 10.5.2. With only 1 GB of RAM, the iMac became slightly sluggish when running intensive apps such as Windows Vista Ultimate (under Parallels). Now, with the extra 2 GB of RAM, the iMac no longer exhibits any sluggishness.I learned later that there might be a compatibility issue between this RAM and Apple iMacs and MacBooks. It only manifests when two of these 2 GB modules are installed (resulting in one of the modules disappearing from System Profiler). Crucial acknowledged this issue and has reportedly fixed it.Since I only have one module, I haven't noticed any ill effects. Therefore, I consider it a good purchase.
