Comment:
I bought this card for my main gaming rig in order to try out Eyefinity. I paired it with three Samsung 24" B2440M HAS monitors. I downloaded the latest drivers and Catalyst from ATI, everything runs with no issues at all so far. This 6870 card is replacing the ASUS HD4870 Dark Knight that was in the system. The 6870 has excellent performance and runs quiet, unlike any of my NVidia equipped systems (8800 daw and the 275 game rig) which are noisy and hot as heck.My game rig is: ASUS P7P55D mobo, Intel i5-750 OC'd to 3.2GHz, Noctua Cooler, 8GB Mushkin DDR3, CoolerMaster Storm case, Enermax Modu82 625W PS, WD Caviar Black HD, Saitek Eclipse kbd, SteelSeries XAI mouse, M-Audio 40 spkrs. On single display the performance is easily 2 to 3 times faster than the 4870 on many games.Eyefinity is awesome. After playing games like Dirt 2 and BattleField BC2, there is no going back to a single display setup. The wide aspect adds an enormous amount of game immersion.A couple of games noticed a performance impact with the higher 5760x1080 resolution.CrysisWars, which easily runs with everything max'ed Best on the 4870 and 6870 single display, had to have a couple of the video settings set back to Good when running Eyefinity in order to get the fps back up to the 30-40 range.GTA4 notices a performance hit at 5760x1080, so the view distance settings had to be turned way back. Some of the games I play include: Amnesia TDD, CoD MW2, Crysis, CrysisWars, Dirt 2, Doom 3, ET:QW, Far Cry 2, FEAR, FEAR 2, GTA-4, HL2 DM, Left4Dead, Left4Dead 2, UT3 Black. Some games with Eyefinity cause a bit too much stretching on the side monitors. A few games didn't support Eyefinity at all, which is fine because they just displayed as duplicated screens on the three monitors, and some mess up and are unplayable (FC2) but this is the games fault that it doesn't support the higher resolution and 48:9 aspect.Overall, an excellent purchase, with excellent performance.
