Cons: none noted so far.

Pros: Cheap, not too loud. Fast enough to store media
Comment:
Bought a couple of these drives on sale for $49.99. Finally installed them in a couple of external housings and they work just fine. I'm partial to WD drives but Hitachis are proving to be almost as good for me.

HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons: doesn't excel in any particular area

Pros: cheap, fast, relatively quiet, good all around
Comment:
These drives are an excellent value. They offer good storage capacity and performance at a fairly low price point compared to the competition.I have yet to witness the vibration mentioned by other owners of this drive, but the seek noise is just under that of the WD Blacks, while the performance scales in the same fashion. Price is drastically lower though, ~50% less at the lowest price point for a 1TB Black. I haven't noticed this drive running warm either, mine runs cooler than my Blacks. I have noticed that this drive is noticeably lighter than most 1TB drives as well. This would make an adequate OS drive as well as an excellent storage drive. Noise levels are at the limit of acceptability for me, and probably would be for most people.

Cons: -Don't reset SMART setting in BIOS. It will wipe this drive's MBR

Pros: Works as advertised.
Comment:
Like the weak point said, lost the MBR on this drive after turning off SMART monitoring in BIOS. This was not the case with the other drives in my system.

Cons: manufactured in Feblost almost 10 months of warranty

Pros: cheap7200rpm
Comment:
The drive was recently purchased, but the sticker shows it was manufactured in Feb, so it is an really old stock, which implies they were not sold well, this might explain the sales ;-)lost almost 10 months of warranty if warranty is indeed start from manufactured date!

HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons: nothing for a storage drive

Pros: Fairly fastGood price per GBQuality and reliable Cool temps
Comment:
These drives are about the best I've Used in along line of drives. I work with Storage drives for many corporations and business's and Ive been left wanting many times with other brands such as seagates , samsungs , maxtor "now seagate" and WD. Hitachi makes the most dependable drives going in my honest opinion, that and they run cool.our business has switched away from all other brands for our deployments. In servers I'm running their enterprise drives but at home I'm running 8 of these drives in dual raid 5 and they run much cooler than the seagates or WDs i had prior i replaced those drives with these and have had no problems for nearly 2 years now "knocking on wood" a lot better than i can say for the seagates i had where i was having 2-3 drive failures every 6 months. don't be afraid to go hitachi you wont go back.

Cons: None

Pros: InexpensiveReliable
Comment:
I owned a few Hitachi drives for both personal and corporate use and they have never given me any troubles for years. They do die off after several years of heavy use, but they are very reliable.Like all other hard drives they do become noisy when they are being worked harder than normal. Also, they are not the fastest drives, but will do for most people purposes.

HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons: -oddly shaped casing

Pros: -fast (though not fastest)-reliable-quiet
Comment:
A hard drive should just work, and Hitachi's Deskstar line delivers on that. These perform quickly, and rather quietly - while they aren't the fastest drive around and they aren't completely inaudible, they're sufficient in both categories. My oldest one is the original model (version A), and although it has seen moderate throughput 24/7 for almost 3 years as an OS/server drive, it's still going strong. I have several of the B and C versions, and they have all performed as expected.I switched to Hitachi after I got fed up with Western Digital. I've had just as many (which is to say, quite a few) of their drives, but they always seemed to suffer random deaths, even with only infrequent usage. So far they have all been great, and in my mind Hitachi has successfully exorcised the DeskStar line of its murky reputation. Though everyone's opinion will vary, I have no qualms about recommending these drives to anyone. One very minor caveat with this drive, is its odd physical shape. Much of the body is not as tall as a 3.5" slot, so the side edges are built up to fit into your computer case properly - but there are areas with non-symmetrical indentations in them. If you use elastic drive suspenders (like those in Antec's Sonata Plus 550) and twist them tight enough to firmly hold the drive, it can be a bit of a pain getting the drive to sit straight or to insert/remove them.

Pros: Large storage capacity
Comment:
Good brand since it's from Hitachi, but I don't feel the performance it's that great. This is not a problem for me though as I will use it to back up my data instead of running windows OS on it. For 40 bucks it's worth the money

HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons: -Takes a sec to initially load files

Pros: -Cheap 49.99-32 MB Cache-7200 RPM-1 TB of Space
Comment:
I just bought this to store all the extra files I had sitting around and im pretty happy with it, as a secondary drive it is more than acceptable, as a primary id sooner say go Caviar Black or SSD. When I initially access the hard drive it freezes for about 5 seconds or so but for a storage drive this is acceptable. All in all, im fairly happy with it, its not too loud or anything either.

Cons: havent found any yet

Pros: 7200rpmquietcheap
Comment:
I bought two of these when they went on sale for $49.99So far theyve been great. Im using them as storage drives so speed is not a big issue. However they are 7200rpm so if I ever wanted to turn them into os drives I could without having to worry about the drives being too slow. I currently have them running on my desk, and they are nice and quiet. They dont get very hot. My western digital blacks and my seagate 7200.11 drives run hotter than these drives, and they have delta fans pulling air past them. For 50 bucks these are a steal of a deal.

HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons: Vibrates like a mofo

Pros: FastCheap for a 1TB driveQuiet
Comment:
Picked this drive up for $40 on Black Friday and so far I'm very impressed. The drive is very fast; HD Tune reports an average read speed of 110MB/s and access time of 14ms, and my own personal benchmarks place it just a little bit behind the 300GB VelociRaptor as a boot/application drive. It is also surprisingly quiet for a 7200RPM drive, even when seeking. However, it vibrates more than most. It is much louder than other drives when you place it on a solid surface like a wooden table. If you have undampened hard drive mounts, you may want to look elsewhere. I'm going to suspend it with elastic, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Pros: Great performance price/ratio
Comment:
quite effective in raid configuration. I've been using the c model for about a year now and I am very satisfy. They are not the best but for that price what can you expect. They are also great for simple storage. If you have a proper anti-vibration system for you hdds, you should not here them spin or anything.

Cons: Can't do back flips.

Pros: lots of space
Comment:
I was running out of room on my hard drive and I didn't want to start deleting movies, games and music. Instead I forked over $50 and got myself one more terabyte of digital entertainment space. So far so good; I would recommend to anyone who wants more room without working extra hours on the weekend.

Bought this drive at Markham retail location to throw in an external unit but instead threw it into my gaming rig. The drive is running very quiet for my tastes aswell as cool. The drive also was onsale at the time and the price was very hard to pass up. I've used Deskstars before aswell as all the manufacturers...must say I've had decent luck with Hitachi so here goes another!

Cons: Little bit noisier than the 500G version this drive.

Pros: Inexpensive large capacity drive. Good performance. Should be reliable.
Comment:
This is my second Deskstar drive. I bought this 1TB drive from good experience with my previous one. The first one was a 500G version of this drive bought one year ago. That drive is very reliable, quiet, and offers great performance. This 1TB version sounds a little bit noisier than the 500G one, but I'd own noisier drives before. For the price I will buy again shall need arises.

Pros: Very nice HDTune scoresRuns very coolCheapest 1TB drive I've seen so far2 platters
Comment:
Using HD Tune's benchmark, I got numbers very similar to the WD10EALS (1TB WD Blue). Min - 66.1, Max - 140.7, Avg - 112.3, Access Time - 14.2ms, Burst Rate - 178.7. Noise is also comparable, but I've never been that sensitive to noise and my PC isn't all that quiet.I usually trust WD or Samsung for reliability, but most people who've actually owned Hitachi drives seem to say nothing but positive things. Many people don't trust them for their "DeathStar" days, but that was a very long time ago.The drive runs very cool. I'm currently doing an error scan and it's running at 29c (room temp ~21-22c). I have a 120mm fan (case's intake fan) though, but my WD1001FALS runs at ~30-32c idle.Overall, so far so good. This is only my second Hitachi drive, but I have no problems recommending them until I have problems with them myself. For the price, you can't go wrong.
