It does have a super sensitive receptor. On one particular of my machines I was able to get some true fantastic HD signals. (unfortunately that machine is as well slow for it to be useable on it) On my newer XP box, the hardware/software was not showing any HD signals like it was with my older machine. I called help only to find that they keep conventional small business hours, which doesn't really enable when the majority of you consumers aren't a enterprise, and need help in the evenings or on weekends. Sent an e-mail, but nonetheless haven't heard back from them a week later. Horrible help....horrible.The application is really buggy, crashes all the time...altering channels, exiting the app, running their tools. And to echo what have been mentioned for other hauppauge tuners, it actually does take a excellent five seconds to modify the channel. I don't suggest this or any Hauppauge tuners of this line. Keep away from them. I will have to return this, devoid of HD my old reputable LeadTek PVR is greater then this garbage.

Straightforward set up, picks up each wall cable clear QAM and set prime box analog channels in windows 7 media center. Greater analog high quality than my old Hauppauge PVR-150. none I had to write this overview to clear up some confusion with regards to this card. My configuration; three year old dell E521 2Ghz Athlon dual core, four gigs memory, 256 MB video card, 64 bit windows 7. Let me be clear; in spite of all the details to the contrary all over the world wide web, as well as facts Hauppauge tech help told me when I referred to as ahead of I purchased this card, I WAS Able to set up this card up as a dual tuner in windows 7 media center, controlling both the standard clear QAM tuner AND the cable set top rated box with both connections used on the card. I connected cable from the wall to the QAM connector and my cable set top box to the analog connector. Windows 7 media center picks up and controls each. My cable set best box comes by way of with analog channel numbers 2, 3, four, and so on. Wall cable channels show up as HD 2.1, four.1, 5.1 etc. However, QAM channels are handful of, restricted by the cable corporation. But it is OK with me, I just want to watch football in HD on my Pc.

It picks up my carrier's unencrypted QAM channels; Lightweight drivers (driver only install w/ MC) Remote is not Media Center compatible; Can not very easily switch amongst analog and digital devoid of a splitter and much more cables; WinTV computer software is bloat It picks up my cable co's unencrypted QAM channels and all the analog channels. Largely QAM is now just neighborhood and neighborhood HD & music channels. My cable co hasn't switched to all digital and am unable to view channels above 22 with QAM so I'm stuck on analog. As for image quality.. it looks decent at a distance. If you appear truly close at a Tv it doesn't appear so fairly either. I am working with a pc monitor but it looks far better on a real Television, or the neighborhood HD channels on QAM appear A lot far better than analog on a personal computer monitor.I'd suggest it, but if you want to switch among QAM and analog simply you will have to use a splitter.

Device works great.Remote operates good, also. You can customize the remote to use other applications.(editing irremote.ini in windows directory) Software program, "WinTV" is truly bad.It crashes mainly because of an .NET Framework runtime error, and there is no error reporting module in the software. That suggests they are reluctant to fixing errors.I sent an e-mail to the tech assistance to Hauppauge with particulars, but there was no reply until now. I was thinking completeƕ) rating for this product. Nonetheless, I'm so disappointed to the tech help. If you want to obtain this, contemplate employing 3rd party software program, which is not WinTV. It causes so several errors.

none.... I was replacing a pci wintv mainly because it wouldn't work in vista. I purchased this and it looks like I'm watching lousy web video due to the compression of the pvr feature. Apparently, there is no way to shut the pvr function off and just use the 1600 as a straight tv tuner. All I wanted to do is pass via my cable box by way of channel three and watch television on my pc.

NTSC Tuner functions ok. ATSC (Off Air HDTV) only operates if the signal is close to 100%. Otherwise the sound drops off and there is pixelation. I replaced this with the AVerMedia AVerTVHD Duet - PCTV Tuner. It is a much better card for less income. I would not buy this card for any price. There are significantly better items obtainable at a lower expense. I will not purchase a Hauppauge item again.

It gets Clear QAM with Comcast in Tallahassee. Tuner looks ok with the analog channels. I'm guessing this will look much better immediately after the DTV transition. Functions good with Media Center (see other thoughts). I was not able to view Clear QAM with the offered computer software WinTV6, and, let's be honest, THAT'S THE ONLY Cause TO Buy A HD Television TUNER! -1 egg After a extended time of analysis, I lastly discovered Microsoft Tv Pack 2008. I'm operating Vista 64-bit Ultimate and installed the Media Center Television Pack (and all the cumulative updates) and now I'm ultimately in a position to get ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and PBS in high definition with the lowest level of standard cable. Now I'm happy

Works with vista ultimate 64 bit. Bundled software program is ok. Analog Coax connector is long and not placed towards the corner so you don't nick/scrape your fingers twisting the coax cable connector onto the tuner card. Remote appears unnecessary. Only using analog cable. No expertise with digital tuner

-Great Reception-Works amazing with Vista Media Center, like seriously wonderful.-Pause, record, rewind Television functions are flawless in Media Center, Ive in no way been so excited about a Microsoft product in my life. -Included remote just straight up doesn't perform at all. -A person else reviewed the other SKU of this card and stated that the non-MCE remote worked with MCE, but it doesn't.-Included software program is literally garbage.- Bundled remote/receiver/transmitter setup appears low top quality. I bought this one particular from Circuit city, I'll be returning it in favor of the Asus "My Cinema" I purchased off newegg.Media center operates genuinely very good... truly great.

Analog and digital Tv functions operate out-of-the box with Mythbuntu .23/Ubuntu 10.04. No need to update drivers or firmware. Receives superior digital Cable signal behind 3 layers of splitters. I got this version of the card (with remote) due to the fact the MythTV wiki mentioned its IR function was supported. I missed the other Newegg critiques that reported IR support was broken in recent Linux kernels. After a lot of function, i was able to get the IR to function. But if I did it once more, I would get the non-IR version, and a separate USB MCE remote/blaster. Newegg's description says the component to S-video adapter is included, but that isn't correct. The remote control is really low-cost looking, and only has a range of a few feet. I am utilizing a Logitech Harmony remote with the Hauppauge IR receiver/blaster and that combo operates fine. To find my recepie to make the IR receiver and blaster function on Ubuntu 10.04, search for "Hauppauge HVR-1600 remote specific lircrc" and go to post ŧ in the thread.

-Tuned channels nicely-Displays reside and recorded content material seamlessly in window & full-screen mode-Actually basic to record, either with the scheduler or spur-of-the-moment -It did take me a whilst to get every thing set up and fine-tuned, but otherwise, every thing appears to be performing as it really should. I'm running it on an Athlon two.2gHz Dual-core with a Radeon 2100 video card, and anything is smooth and vivid. I live in town, so it has no trouble selecting up ATSC signals. This is a good remedy for those of us who can't afford cable/Tivo. I absolutely recommend it.

Functions well. Set-up was faster than expected. It gets all the channels I expected. Clear quality, clear audio. The software program that comes with it is mediocre, but it does it's job. IMO, this operates superior in Windows Media Center (it cuts out the small static bar on the top rated, and the remote works for it too). Remote is rather low-cost. I at times have to press the buttons multiple times, even when I'm pointing appropriate at the receiver. I don't get any ClearQAM channels, but then once more, I don't know if I'm supposed to (and I didn't purchase it to specifically get any). It also did not come with a coax cable...not enormous, but would have been nice. I actually ordered the 1250 from Newegg and got the 1250 box, but for some reason the 1600 was in it. Absolutely nothing was messed up and packing was fine...and they fairly considerably do the exact same thing, so I see no point in complaining.Specs:Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bitAMD 2.2 Ghz Quad-core6 GB RAMGeForce 9400 GT

Immediately after a lot development from the people today behind the drivers, this card functions out of the box in Ubuntu 8.10. I haven't tried it under windows so I can't comment on that. None. For those who have had trouble with this card in linux, attempt the following commands:sudo modprobe -r cx18sudo modprobe cx18Following those, the card works perfectly. I use mplayer to watch live Tv and ivtv-tune to tune the card.

Picture high quality is A+, easy installation None now! The remote does perform! I want to update the assessment in regards to the remote. It works now and I assume it's mainly because I had it plugged in prior to installing the drivers. I have the GeForce 7950 GX2 with 2560 X 1600 resolution so maybe that is why the clarity is blowing me away. I can get each channel option without having a hitch.

Effortless to install. Below Windows 7, it installed perfectly without having any difficulties. It functions with WMC without having a hitch. I didn't have to use a CD to install the drivers as Windows 7 identified them. Inside minutes, I was up and operating and watching Tv.Even even though I don't have digital cable, my cable provider does offer the HD channels of the four standard networks, plus about four other channels as nicely as over 40 digital music channels through the cable feed. The card picked up all of the analog plus the digital channels without a issue and the HD channels look lovely on my monitor.Dual tuners (one analog, 1 digital) allows you to watch live tv even though the other records. Incredibly nice. For capturing video, there is an S-video port, but they also supply an adapter so you can hook up an RCA jack if your source doesn't have S-video out ports. Definitely good. For recording, there is an MPEG-2 decoder built in, so hardware decoding is built-in, thereby lowering the load on the CPU. Even even though the card works perfectly, the only challenge some may come across is the remote. It does NOT perform with MCE, but rather it is applied to manage your satellite or cable box. For me, this is not a problem as I have an MCE remote from my older tuner card, so it's not a "con" for me, but some might think the remote functions with MCE when it doesn't, so you have been forewarned. Some may possibly locate the remote a pro due to the fact it makes it possible for you to control your satellite or cable box if the box is needed. For the funds, this is an excellent card for those looking to get digital channels. I'll look into upgrading my cable to digital soon so I can get ALL of the digital channels. This card was Extremely easy to install.

This card works fantastic as a sdtv viewing card Capture in any resolution or mode is dismal at very best, on the other hand it is greatest in SDTV. HDTV with this card is a joke it is not capable of 1080 in any way if you are employing a HDTV set leading box and satelite is not even supported. When anything HD is played it will allow analog only, unless you have a ClearQam or ATSC signal I would suggest not listing as an HDTV card when it is so limited, to be nice about it, I will just say that it is incredibly mis-leading.

Good package deal with cables and remote setup. Better reception can be obtained thru Windows Media but more than all ease of operation is with WINTV if you can magically get it to work. Do not acquire this card if you have analog AND digital chanels to pull in. This card will obtain analog marginally with worse picture than older cards. The digital reception is a royal discomfort to get operating mostly mainly because of the poorly written drivers and worse support. Plan to invest at least a day, possibly much more to get this thing working in a decent fashion. Leave this one alone and wait for a sale on one more brand you want superior functionallity. WinTV seems to be dropping in high quality in all areas lately.

None. It's old, it's outdated, it's garbage. Plus it makes the red warning light on my Asus P5K motherboard light up constantly, which is a warning that the PCI card is not seated correctly. Hauppauge's response is that this is typical -- don't worry about it. Honestly, I feel rather betrayed by this lousy product, and I'm shocked it's nonetheless on the industry, being manufactured and becoming sold. My dislike of the item began with frustrating interactions with Hauppauge, whose consumer support was not only arrogant but also dishonest. Following months of promising that they had been "working on" 64-bit compatibility, with respect to the built-in video capture function, at some point they evidently just gave up.But far worse about this item is its horrible tuner sensitivity. I have been given bogus assistance from self-proclaimed "power users" and "experts" across the 'Net saying that ATSC tuners (especially in these PC tuner cards) are fundamentally all the same in terms of sensitivity. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I just installed an AverMedia Duet and it a lot more than doubled my lineup, while adding two of the 4 key networks -- that's huge. This happened with definitely no alter to the antenna configuration; the similar coax which fed this went into the Duet. Perhaps Hauppauge (an awful tradename that I plan on never ever having to pronounce again) has lastly improved its tuner sensitivity with newer models, but that's the point: They're nonetheless putting this out there, into the marketplace, and therefore they defraud new shoppers when all they're performing is feeding an outdated technical development with vastly inferior tuning capability.

Full-featured PCI tuner and software allowing dvr functionality on the computer system.Discovered it for a decent cost on Newegg.A PCI card compatible with older computers. Software program appears to be a bit buggy in that it will occasionally freeze up on my personal computer (most most likely a function of my laptop or computer but be aware if you have an older laptop or computer that this could take place occasionally). Winfast Tv card I previously had installed died and had been typically unreliable. I like htis card and the truth that it's been comparatively painless to install and use. If I were putting this in a newer laptop or computer I feel that my rating would go up a level.

The card was uncomplicated to install and get working with the software program included. I have mine set on a PC that is attached to my 65 inch DLP LCD Television by way of HDMI. The card is connected directly to the cable wall outlet thru a signal booster/splitter and receives about 40-50 Clear QAM channels including all neighborhood channels in HD. Even the non HD channels come in incredibly clear. Had to make some Windows 7 registry edits to be able to access the Clear QAM channels thru Media Center. Also, had to manually setup all of the channel listings in Media Center. I do not feel this is the fault of the card although. I'm able to view and record all of my local channels in HD via Media Center on my PC which is what I was attempting to do when I got the card. Becoming able to record and view all of the non-HD Clear QAM channels is icing on the cake. I went to the movies this weekend with the wife and was able to view a chrystal clear HD recording of the NFL playoff games full screen on my 65 inch Tv! Wonderful!!My PC is: Windows 7 64-bit 4G memory AMD dual coreVideo card with 1G memory

The HVR-1600 works wonderful following some fiddling around. It will receive analog channels in fairly good high quality and it receives clear QAM channels in ideal excellent, although signal strength is a little on the low side. I haven't attempted it for ATSC as I have no need, but I'm sure it will perform similarly in that regard. The included remote is an awesome bonus. It has superior button placement and construct excellent and it works with a wide variety of software. Excellent drivers and excellent online support with lots of documentation is obtainable. Also, there is a significant-ish community of people today tuning Television with this card on the World wide web. The HVR-1600 has a number of flaws, but they aren't actually due to limitations of the card itself. The card performs as advertised. Rather, the card's difficulties stem from the realities of digital Tv reception and the limitations produced by the software program. The software program that is included with this card is excellent for only the most rudimentary functions. The interface is unnecessarily complex, and really unintuitive. Moreover, as I stated before, analog reception is fine, and digital is fantastic, but only on the channels that it can in fact obtain. Basically, you're at the mercy of your nearby OTA reception and/or what your cable provider permits to be broadcast unencrypted, aka as clear QAM. In my town, this is about 5 channels; Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, and PBS. This is clearly not an perfect situation but it's the reality of tuning Television with this tuner card. I docked an egg solely because the included software isn't extremely superior. Other than that, the card is terrific. The thing is you're not going to be able to get all your 300+ digital channels via this thing. That's a limitation your cable provider is enforcing, not this tuner card. Also, I would suggest working with some type of 3rd party PVR software to actually get this card to perform to the very best of its capacity. I've been using GB-PVR for over a year now and immediately after a little set up it's been working with little or no difficulties for months. There is a fantastic on-line community for this software program, as well. An additional remedy you could attempt is MythTV, though I'm not sure there are drivers for the digital tuner for linux yet. I've also attempted recording from the card directly from a VCR and it worked perfectly. I did have to experiment really a bit with software program just before I got it to function for that purpose, although.Final thought: this card is great if you're willing to experiment with setting it up.
