Hauppauge WinTV-HVR1600 Dual TV Tuner
Comment:
On the pro side, this card has indeed lasted quite along time ƒ+ years) without dying On the con side, until lately, I was making use of a digital cable set top box and all was effectively. When I moved to an HDCP compliant program and changed the box to an HDTV cable box, and the picture became horrible with a 1920x1080 res. Also, it seems to only be able to run at about half size and it picture frames (large black bars best and sides) for about 1ǘ of the size of the frame. Support from Haupauge is dismal at greatest, unless you need to have some thing (hardware) replaced. As far as replacing hardware they are really forthcoming, however for software support they just don't appear to to care at all.I have been talking to them for additional than six-months on this issue and they respond about once every single two weeks. This is not acceptable in todays marketplace for any sort of support. This card is only able to read HDTV signals via Clear/QAM or over the air broadcast only. It only read analog signals via a set leading box, so if you are looking for HDTV on your PC with a cable box, look elsewhere.

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR1600 Dual TV Tuner
Comment:
I am employing the older version 6 (scared to install 7). It does the job. On Comcast in Chicago region and I get most of the analog stations on QAM. I am working with an older personal computer with an AMD Socket 939 3000 processor. Selected HRC when scanning for channels. Will not record two channels at the exact same time. Immediately after several exchanges with support no remedy. Scanning in ver 6 for QAM genuinely terrible. It does not distinquish between encrypted and non-encrypted so you have to go by means of 500 stations one at a time to locate them. Had to install and uninstall at least 20 times just before it worked. It is now stable that is why I am scared to blow it away and try ver 7. Ver 7 not being in a position to discover QAM stations is real challenge as Comcast is going all digital. For some reason the channel scanner does not appropriately choose up all the QAM stations. I have a Sony Television with a digital tuner and it picks up QAM channels that I can't get on the computer system. Most I don't care about so not a huge deal for now.

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR1600 Dual TV Tuner
Comment:
Works with MythTV on MythUbuntu. Through Comcast in NJ, digital and Analog Channels are incredibly clear and look great on my 40" HDTV. Took a while for me to get working appropriately. Not truly a con, but thought I'd mention it. I'm certain it'd be less complicated to get working on a Windows OS. Have this card running on MythUbuntu that I upgraded to Myth 9.x. Changing channels is a bit slow. I have this card running with my old Hauppauge PVR-250. Had to make certain to select the frequency table 'Cable HRC' or the analog channels wouldn't come in clear. Currently running on an Athlon 64 񩰰 with 2.5 GB of RAM, an ATI 3850 AGP card, and a 200 GB drive. Will be upgrading to an Athlon X4 955, 790GX-based board, 1TB storage and might replace the PVR-250 with another HVR-1600 to the mix.

Good price, works with older pc. Won't be any if I can locate out why my channels are fuzzy and blk/wht!!!!!! Product seems to work. However, most of my channels (anolog cable) are fuzzy and show in black/white. Once I discover why this is happening, I will give it 5 stars Is everyone else having this issue??

Not the Best
Comment:
Has a lot of great features, but not all works well. Setting up worked very well and tuning the TV channels all preformed great. Recording of the air was excellent. My major problem was getting the composite input to work properly, always had about a 5-8 sec delay in real time and what actually on screen, so setting up my DirectTV receiver sucked. Had the WinTV before and loved it. No wonder they dropped this one. NO! help from Hauppauge after 2 tries for support. Lost me as a customer of their product.

Impressed
Comment:
I had to replace my last tuner card when I swapped my mobo, and the PCIE slot was unavailable. So I read the reviews and decided to go with this one over the Diamond PCI tuner. I am glad I did. It installed with out a single hang up. Works flawlessly with windows 7 and media center, I never had to download or install any software for it. My picture is so much better than before I couldn't believe it. I will buy this same product for future builds.

I picked this up in Jan. of this year. Took me a minute to get it set up, but got it going. I now run all my media with Media center. My Music, videos, tv, and my movies I ripped. So now I don't even need to use the discs. I'm running windows 7 ult. 64 bit. Im not sure why people are having problems. I have no issues with any drivers. If I build another Computer I am going to pick up another one for that one too! Good Job!

Worked good while it lasted.

I bought this item in October of 2009. I was busy so I didn't install it until mid-November. It worked well for what I wanted it for (PVR for cable). After about a month my computer started acting flaky. I finally took the computer to a local computer repair shop. My computer works perfectly without the tuner card installed, but gets stuck in a reboot cycle with the card installed. Because it has been over a month since I bought the card, I can't return it. I will not buy this brand again.

best product and deal

I do not know why they discontinued selling this product. I sure like it. I have a mini tuner stick and I can not get any channels with it. My best deal was getting this tuner card. I am using it on windows 7.

Good but not fully Win 7 compatible
Comment:
Works fine, except the IR blaster is not Win 7 compatible. I have checked this with Hauppauge tech support and they confirm. Win 7 expects the IR blaster to be on USB, but that's not the case with an internal card like this. Really it's Microsoft's fault. Might be the same problem with Vista, not sure.

Excellent Product
Comment:
This is being used to watch HD over the TV and Analog Satellite. We are using Windows Media Center and a 32 in 720P display. Picture quality is outstanding. The setup was a little challenging but we figured it out. It would be nice if the installation package contained info on setting the system up with Media Center.

Perhaps not the card's fault
Comment:
This card works fine for analog TV in a system running 3.0GHz P4 hyperthreaded with 1.5G RAM, EXCEPT: card-compatible digital cable is not available through Rogers Canada, and there are almost no over-the-air digital channels in Toronto available to cheaper indoor antenna. For this application, a single tuner analog PVR card would have been cheaper and as effective (until analog is discontinued, of course).

Not all it is cracked up to be!
Comment:
Beware Window 7 users. Although the Windows 7 compatibility website shows this card is Win 7 compliant in 32 and 64 byte versions what is not being told is the remote is not. I learned from Hauppauge's tech support that you must buy their certified Media Center remote if you intent to use Media Center. Another possible deal breaker comes in the form of a 3 to 5 second audio delay if you use your monitor as an HDTV. There is no delay if you use Media Center. Bottom line is you can find this card sold as a OEM part without the remote and the cost savings is about equal to the cost of the compliant remote. I will be returning this card.

Not great
Comment:
Tried in my HP, running XP. Only picked up 1 channel and causes everything to freeze up. HDTV on the other side of the room with the same antenna picks up 14 clearly. I'm still running the OEM graphics card and 1024MB ram, so my system my be at fault, if so the requirements are too high!

Excellent Product!
Comment:
The card works very well on Windows 7 x64 out-of-the -box with the included software Win-TV v7. I plugged analog cable in and I started watching TV right away beacause the Win-TV software is a nobrainer to use and is all automatic. The interface is good too. With the integrated hardware MPEG-2 encoder, analog is converted on-the-fly on the card itself so CPU utilization is correct. On Pentium 4 3.2GHz with 3GB RAM and Windows 7 you can expect an average of 45% CPU, so you can do other tasks while watching. Live and Scheduled Recording is also a breeze. Windows Media Center on Windows 7 x64 works very well with the card too. I recommend it. This is the best you can get and it is hassle-free.

I had the original analog win tv which worked good for the day. I decided to update to digital with my hd tv, but the quality isn't as good as I thought it would be. I'm still having conflicts with my lan. Haupauge has not helped at all. Can't use lan and wintv at same time, I have to remove 1 of them for the other to work, even assigned irq's.

Great hardware, software sucks!
Comment:
I bought this card several months ago. The card works great recording from a cable box. However I have had some issues with the conversion to MPG software. Sometimes the audio and video are out of sync. According to Hauppauge, their software will not convert the TS file again at a later date and they do not know of another software program that will convert the TS files to MPG or AVI.

Just the best
Comment:
One of the great things I like about Hauppauge is the no hassle install. The MPEG encoder means superb performance with minimal CPU usage. The only hickup I had with it was not being able to program the IR commands in the IRBLASTER config but was able to find the code for my satellite receiver in the database and so didn't wate time figuring it out.
