Don't buy this one if you only have the minimums!
Comment:
I have a couple of older PC's that have the minimum processor speeds and 64 megs of video RAM that manufacturer recommends to use this video card. The NTSC portion of the card worked well but when I tried the ATSC tuner portion the video would stop and start constantly. I tried on both of my PC's with the same results. You'll definitely need more than 64 megs of RAM if you want to use the HD portion. The IR also didn't work at all.

this pulls in weak signals from 56 miles away
Comment:
a cheap usb tv tuner got 0 thru 34 signal and 0 thru 10 quality in blaze tv software. this hauppauge hvr1600 gets a consistent 100 signal and a whopping 70 quality in blaze tv software.. however i dont use the blaze tv software, i use winTV 7. winTV 6 didnt pick up anything and i was afraid i would have to return this tuner for lack of quality.. but first i wanted to make sure i had the thing updated, there came winTV version 7 i use an RCA ant200 antenna outside on a window shelf with 100ft cable and 30ft power cord. i only get 3 or 4 channels during the day, but at night i have got as many as 36 channels south chicago suburb representing the windy city i just need a new antenna to get all 36 channels during the day as well as during the night.

Easy installation and setup
Comment:
Bought as an upgrade to an analog card. Removed the old card and software installed and set up the new with no problems. Running Windows XP home edition. Apart from having to rerun the channel search weekly as the cable company moves around the channels, no problems.

best card out there
Comment:
This card worked perfectly. It was up and running within minutes, and the software was easy to use. The supplied software was well designed, although the process for scanning for channels was not as easy as I would have liked. My one complaint was with the remote control sensor. It takes considerable force to plug the small connector into the back of the card. I tried for about an hour to get the remote to work, until I tried pushing hard on the jack and it snapped fully into place... It honestly felt like it would break if i pushed that hard. After that the remote worked perfect also. Other than that I would have gave it a perfect score.

Great with Dish Network
Comment:
Since I do not have a DVR with Dish Network, I was looking for a TV tuner to turn my computer into a DVR, and this one did the trick. I purchased a $20 card from a different company and it was junk, where this one works perfectly. Do yourself a favor, and pay the extra money for the Hauppauge, you will be happy you did.

Poor Analog Performance
Comment:
Install was simple enough, purchased this card for a customer and after finally getting it to receive a dish network channel 60 output (picture quality excellent on standard tv), the picture quality was very grainy and pixelated. Customer decided not to keep card so being returned here. Disappointing.

not happy with Hauppauge
Comment:
This retailer came to the rescue with my purchase of this tuner. The digital tuner on the card was dead upon arrival, Hauppauge customer service was inefficient and slow. After a number of emails with them, I called this retailer, and their customer service was stellar!

Comment:
Very easy to install and works great! I tried an ATI (Visiontech)card, and had nothing but problems, it got worse when I called ATI tech support! Thanks Hauppauge for another great product!

Be careful - WMC needs additional hardware
Comment:
Ordered my card a couple of days before lolumad posted note regarding WMC below. Wish I'd have seen it first! Card works ok with WinTV but to get installed with WMC you'll need to have an IR Blaster that is WMC approved (like eHome). Limited exchange on card means I'll be keeping it, but it'll be another 30 dollars plus for blaster and a while for shipping until it's fully functional. Investigating the Hauppauge site shows that most of their tuners have the same IR Blaster limitations so you would think that they would package the WMC compatible IR Blaster. It would be good for consumers (and probably bad for Hauppauge)if that was more prevalently stated in the product info.

Very satisfied
Comment:
I does the job for me. I use the analog signal with GBPVR. Just be aware that Videotron digital signal is encrypted and WILL NOT be decoded by the digital input of this product.

Works very nicely with Windows Media Center
Comment:
i found that this tv tuner works wonderfully with WMC but only after all the drivers such as wintv are installed. the only thing is that if you use a cable box you need to find a way to get the Hauppage remote to work for the cable box as well as the TV Tuner card. i havent figured out how to get this to work quite yet but im sure ill be able to in the future. over all a really nice product and worth the money.

What a wonderful surprise!
Comment:
I recently purchased this TV Tuner, to replace one that is a couple of years old, and analog only. This tuner and it's accompaning software really work well with my new motherboard, an ASUS M4A78 PRO, with Windows Vista 64 bit. In fact, it works so well, it is telling me that "ALL" the local television stations are blowing smoke so far as saying that they are 'digital'. My new program tells me that only one station is broadcasting a better resolution picture than 256i, and that is 720i, which is good, BUT THINK WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE IN 1080p WITH A 120hZ REFRESH RATE, MINDBOGGLING!!!

Good TV board, but poor IR remote system
Comment:
This TV board works well with an older Dell 1.8 GB processor with 512 MB RAM. Output works with both VGA and DVI with only a 64MB video board. The only drawback is the previously reported lousy IR performance. I updated the IR driver and sometimes the IR system works, but mostly it doesn't. I'm using InputDirector as a substitute as suggest by a previous reviewer, but the lack of functionality of the IR remote is unacceptable.

Great value - who needs a DVR
Comment:
I love to be able to watch TV & record shows right on my computer. It came with pretty good softwares. I'm still learning how to edit the video. Everything else works beautifully without much learning.

great deal
Comment:
This card is a great deal for what you get. It is one of the more expensive models out there, but trust me it is worth the extra money by far. It takes a little while to install the card's software and get it to work properly, however this is to be expected with an installation such as this. Also as other people have said the channel change feature is a little slow but this can be overlooked. All around this is a great card and does exactly what it says, you can watch and record tv on your desktop and it has a decent quality program bundled with the card that makes this easy to do, once you have the installation figured out.

HVR-1600 Software & Conflict w Firewire/USB card
Comment:
What's the point selling good hardware if the software you need to use the hardware is lousy? Hauppauge lived up to their first class reputation with this one. WinTV is good. However, I am especially happy that the card came bundled with the nanoPeg video editor. The nanoPeg editor allows you to easily cut out unwanted video from your MPEG avi files with out re-encoding the video. Somebody was thinking on this one. Outstanding. During the HVR-1600 card install, a conflict turned up with an Ultra 7 port FireWire/USB 2.0 card I was using in the other PCI slot. I removed the Ultra FireWire/USB card and everything started working perfectly (watch out for this one).

This card works great
Comment:
I upgraded from an old KWorld USB analogue to this, so to me there's quite a quality difference. Installed in Vista 64 with no problems. It comes with everything possible except for an antenna, which I wish it has so I can scan for over the air channels. Anyway, I got myself a small antenna from another tuner and this card is able to pick up a few HD channels. Mind you I'm at Yonge/Elgin Mills so there's no great stuff on TV, but I'm amazed just the same :)

Not bad at all
Comment:
Zero problems installing. Remote works perfectly. It's channel search has a little bit of delay, but it's workable. The HD signal reception isn't the best in the world, but it's not bad either. I'm putting another one in my daughters computer because it's dependable and simple to use.

Works in Windows 7 beta
Comment:
I installed the card in a machine I built using Windows 7 as a media center PC. It works great with my over-the-air HD signal. No driver or installation problems. One downside is that it doesn't have great instructions for using the remote -- I haven't got that working yet. Instead I just control the PC using InputDirector from my laptop. (google it -- it's an awesome utility.)

Works as expected
Comment:
Another quality product from Hauppauge! I have an older WinTV card that has never failed me, and this card was an upgrade to digital from an Avermedia card [also a good product, but didn't have a digital tuner]. Took a while to get the Hauppauge card working with SageTV, but once the card was detected and set up, performance was great.

Hauppauge makes the best cards
Comment:
for about 8 years ive owned a total of 4 Hauppauge cards i have never had a problem of their fault with any of them, i must say that the barrels on the back (the co-ax connectors) arent the best, the connection they use to connect them to the cards board are poor, make sure you keep your wires put up, one trip over the cable wire will jerk that barrel right off the board and out of your puter, but like i said thats my fault not theirs, i have, will and always will buy Hauppauge tv cards-this one installs easy and works great with vista, and vista media center

GOOD PRODUCT MINOR DESIGN ISSUE
Comment:
WORKS WELL WITH VISTA AND A GOOD VIDEO CARD.THE REMOTE JACK HAS A BEVEL ON THE HUB AND IT MUST BE INSERTED FACING THE METAL CAGE AROUND THE CARD OPENING. THE JACK WILL THEN FULLY ENGAGE AND THE IR REMOTE WILL THEN WORK FLAWLESSLY.THIS IS NOT DETAILED IN THE FAQ OR THE MANUAL.OTHERWISE A GREAT PRODUCT.

I am very happy with this product. Quality and performance are good. Installed with no problems. I have the windows xp operating system. I did have a couple of questions and was very pleased with hauppauge's customer service. I also got the impression that there are some nice upgrades coming. Can't wait!
