Best speed and value combination
Comment:
Just installed on a Biostar TPower I55 mobo. Very fast, very stable and easy to overclock. Great speed versus value combination. Excellent processor.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:LGA1156 was a pain

Pros:Fast, cool, hyperthreading
Comment:
Nice fast features for this processor. Paired it with a Gigabyte P55A-UD4P and some Corsair memory and it's a step up from my Q6600 Core 2. Media encoding times have dropped almost 1/3 to 1/2. Nice. One thing of note - when I first installed this, had the strangest message on the RAM in Win 7 Control Panel - System says "Installed memory - 8.00GB (4.00GB usable)". After much research and troubleshooting with the nice folks here - turns out that the LGA1156 socket design is very finicky - the pins on the socket are already bent at an angle with little "fingers" at the end. If the CPU is not seated properly, you may get this message - and discovered that if I RMA'ed the board and the issue was with bent pins - it would not be covered under warranty.

Just got this for my new gaming PC build and am really happy with it. With the stock cooling its running great. I do plan on some additional cooling before I attempt to overclock. This chip is very stable so far and I love how much power it has.

Cons:pricelga1156's future?

Pros:Performanceutility
Comment:
Great CPU. I do heavy gaming so it helps alot with that. Price it a bit high but it can be PM'ed down. I'd recommend it if you do heavy audio/video encoding as the threads will really help with that. Make sure you get a good cooler (intel stock cooler is crap)

Best proccessor ever
Comment:
Ive now built all the I5 and I7 proc's availible for various people and I must admit this one runs the coolest, is the most stable, and the hyperthreading runs great! Idling it sits at 27C and the hyper thread can do 2.93ghz and when you push the machine on hardcore games you get 3.3 on they hyperthread and i only get about 30C in temp. Overclocked i can get this to 3.4ghz on the stock equipment when i hit 42C so i didnt go any higher till my new fan-heatsink come in. Buy this one!

If you want a good high-end mainstream rig 1156 is the way to go.I have this set-up on a Gigabyte P55-UD5 with 8GB of Corsair Dominator ram and cooled by a Themalright MUX-120.If your not a hard core gamer this runs fine with one high quality GPU.I have a XFX 5850 on board and it fulfills my gaming needs. When set-up in a high air flow case everything runs smoothly and temps are very cool all across the board. The 860 is the sweet spot for a cpu in the current Intel 1156 line-up.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:none that I have found

Pros:Fast, 8 threads, really hard to keep them all busyDoesn't require a hot northbridge chip1156 socket is easy to work withAmazing energy saving features
Comment:
I put this CPU into an ASUS P7P55D-E PRO motherboard with no problems at all. First with the stock fan, later with a Zalman ZM-WB5 waterblock and ZM-CS5B cpu clip for the 1156 socket. The new combo (no overclocking) is 2.2x faster than my old AMD 5200+ dual core. The stock fan came with thermal strips included, and seemed to do a good job. CPU temp range was something like 29C (idle) to 44C (loaded) with the fan (but I'm sure I didn't load down 8 threads fully, that's tough to do). Fan generated some sound interference on my front case sound connections, but fan noise was fairly tolerable. Excellent price and speed, and 1156 setups are much cheaper than the super-high end cpus. My cpu scored 4711 on the Passmark CPU Mark test.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:1156 socket future ?

Pros:Great CPU, great overclock
Comment:
Good value vs the x58 platform if you compare the price of mobo and the triple channel ram. the only real question is what will happen with the 1156. Also, if you look to do heavy multi GPU, the available PCI-E lanes might cause a proble.

Worth the price!
Comment:
Got this cpu for my first computer build. Easily handles all games I've thrown at it (Crysis, Company of Heroes, all the valve games). Can easily and safely turboclock and overclock (just need a better fan to really push it). Its recommended to not overclock the i5 more then 1.65V, but that is the required voltage for 1600MHz RAM. The i7 does NOT require any overclocking for 1600MHz RAM, allowing the ram to operate at optimal efficiency.

Powerful CPU
Comment:
I love this CPU. It has lots of power to spare and is all you should need. I would suggest getting a better fan than the one included. Got a bigger fan for the CPU, it fits nicely in the 920 HAF case and my CPU has yet to reach 28 degrees celsuis when I am downloading and playing COD WAW online at full specs at the same time.

High quality processor
Comment:
This is, without a doubt, one of the best values for a CPU on the site. It's not overly expensive, but it runs fast enough to handle anything you can throw at it. Also comes with a very good CPU cooling heatsink and fan. Only complaint is that this did not come with thermal paste, however it does have some pre-applied paste strips on the cooling fan which will work as long as you've got a good, cool case.

It's always fun to run Prime 95 in the background while doing typical tasks in the foreground (Mail, downloading, browsing, writing this review...) with no discernible impact to performance at 100% processor utilization! Definitely worth the price of admission for the next couple of years.

Picked this up for a reasonable price with a pricematch. I went with this over a i7 920 as LGA1156 boards are much more reasonably priced and don't require triple channel RAM. Very happy with my purchase. This review was modfied by poster @ 01-16-10 12:44 PM

I like this beast. I wish I knew how to put an appropriate load on it to keep it busy - it always feels like it's idling even when I play high bitrate h264 from HD PVR, which s know for producing material that requires some juice to play.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:The stock heatsink and fan could be better.

Pros:Fast.Hyper threaded.Low power usage when idle.Turbo boost.
Comment:
I built a new computer using this CPU to encode HD x264 video. It does the same encode job about four times faster then my old AMD dual core computer. I'm very happy with the performance increase. I only wish the supplied heatsink and fan was a little better as the temperature gets a little high when on full load. Nothing really to worry about, but I already ordered a better one and hope it lowers the temp a little.

I'm currently a student who would classify himself as a casual/modest gamer and this processor has exceeded every expectation I had for it. I got it for quite a bit cheaper than the regular price, and would highly recommend this processor to anyone especially if it was on sale. Avatar game is not worth installing though as is the case with most freebie games.
