Super Value
Comment:
Overclocked or not, this CPU performs very near i7-965 Extreme stats. The TurboBoost technology is awesome, pumping this CPU up to 3.46GHz for games without overclocking. Overclocking disables the TurboBoost, but still yields about 3GHz CPU clock, with 1400MHz memory clock.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:Reviews mentioned limited options for future upgrades of this socket.

Pros:Great processor.Lower power draw than a 920 at stock settings.
Comment:
Upgraded my system to this from a socket 939 system and noticed the difference in performance right away. I occasionally render graphics some can take a few hours and this has dramatically reduced the time. I chose the 860 over the 920 because the performance was similar if not better in most cases and motherboards are more affordable for this socket. According to my UPS it's even using less power than my previous system. Once you start overclocking you'll loose the benefit of the lower power draw when compared to the 920.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:none

Pros:very fast, very cool, works great
Comment:
I purchased this CPU as part of my first system build. I was about to pull the trigger on the i7 920 when the i7 860 came out. I waited a bit to see the reviews and they seemed to give the 860 the edge. I have not been disappointed. This processor is very fast and has worked flawlessly. Most people complain about stock coolers but I have found this one to work very well. I did however replace the stock paste with Arctic Silver. Maybe this has helped because my temp runs from 39-48c most of the time, even under load. I will admit that I'm not a gamer or overclocker, yet, so maybe my temps will be lower because of it. My main use is video editing.System Build:Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Gamer Case 900 ATX 9 Drive Bay No PS Top USB2.0 1394 AudioWestern Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 7200RPM 4.2MS 32MB 3.5IN Dual Proc Hard DriveLG W2243T-PF 21.5IN 1920X1080 Black 1080P LCD 5ms 30000:1 DVI VGA Monitor ASUS Radeon 4870 Dk 750MHZ 1GB 3.6GHZ DDR5 PCI-E Dual DVI HDCP HDTV Out Video CardLG BH08-LS20 Black BLU-RAY Writer 8X BD-R 16X DVD-R SATA Lightscribe Internal DriveAltech Lansing VS2521 3 Piece Speaker Stereo SystemIntel Core i7 860 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.8GHZ Hyperthreading 8MB CacheASUS P7P55D Deluxe LGA1156 P55 DDR3 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 PCI SLI Crossfirex 9SATA GBLAN 1394 MotherboardCorsair XMS3 Dominator 4GB DDR3 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 8-8-8-24 Core i5 i7 Dual Channel Memory KitAntec Earthwatts 750W Modular Power Supply ATX12V V2.2 EPS12V Active PFC 80PLUS 120MM FannGear Flash Card Reader 3.5IN Internal USB Black CF/SM/SDHC/MMC/MS/XD 18IN Cable

Cons:not really many

Pros:Strong overclockerHyper threading
Comment:
Currently running at 4.3ghz stable on all 4 cores with liquid cooling. Hyper threading, speed step, turbo boost all turned off however. Have my vcore set at 1.40V, I would not go past that, but I feel that it is at a safe voltage.

Comment:
I usually buy CPUs from non-Intel manufacturers, but I got too many recommendations for this CPU to ignore. Pay the extra money for this CPU. Once you pull it out of the box and let it perform, you'll find that it's definitly worth it.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:- BIOS needs to be setup properly for turbo mode- Gets hot

Pros:- FAST- Turbo mode makes owning a quad core better than a speedy dual core- Power saving settings make it use barely any power [
Comment:
Going from a s939 Athlon 64 3500+ to this is like night and day. No matter what you do you cannot slow it down. Turbo mode makes it always fast, single threaded apps fly at 3.5Ghz. Highly recommended, worth the extra money over the core i5 750.

Cons:Wish it was a bit cheaper

Pros:Effortless overclocking, a little lower heat output that Core 2 Quad CPUs, HyperThreading
Comment:
This is a great CPU! I've been sticking with my old Core 2 Quad Q9450 setup for more than 2 years and finally I picked this CPU to build a new setup around. It's a fantastic processor and just with a voltage bump it instantly clocked to 4GHz 24/7. Comparing against my old OCed Q9450 at 4GHz, clock for clock the 860 seems to perform about 15-30% better in benchmarks like Everest 5.3.

Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:Overclocking is a challengeNot much of an upgrade path for LGA1156 after this

Pros:Excellent stock performance thanks to turbo modeGood overclocking resultsPrice of P55 platform compared to X58
Comment:
I'll try to keep this review short since you've probably already read all about the differences between an i7 860 and an i7 920. So I will focus on just three things - overclocking, overall platform price, and upgrade path.If you use your computer at all-stock settings, the i7 860 is clearly a better choice than the i7 920 due to a) higher frequency (2.8 vs. 2.67) and turbo mode. Turbo mode means the processor actually runs at a MINIMUM of 2.93GHz when all four cores are loaded, but would usually run between 3.33GHz to 3.46GHz when only one or two cores are loaded. Almost 3.5GHz without touching anything in BIOS - that is completely stock. That, my friends, is amazing! But overclocking the i7 860 is a challenge. Unlike the i7 920 that can be pushed +1GHz or more on stock voltages, the i7 860 requires a great deal of fine tuning to reach those levels. And of course, once you start overclocking, you will have to desert all the benefits of turbo mode. This is not to say overclocking is impossible, and indeed, I have mine at 3.7GHz right now and was able to reach 4.0GHz stable but chose to step back due to heat concerns (I'm still awaiting a few more parts for my watercooling loop, so I'm just running it on air with a CM Hyper 212+). But 4.0GHz appears to be about the limit of this chip. While the i7 920 can go to 4.2 fairly regularly, and even to 4.5 with a few special chips - that kind of overclock is largely out of reach for most i7 860's.While the i7 860 and the i7 920 are similarly priced, the i7 860 has a lot of value insomuch as an entire P55 platform (CPU+mobo+RAM) costs about $200 to $400 less than an entire X58 platform for comparable components. Despite the lower overclocking headroom, then, the i7 860 has considerable value when compared to the i7 920.One thing that might give you pause in buying a P55 platform, though, is the upgrade path on LGA1156 sockets. Upcoming 6- and 8-core processors are earmarked for the LGA1366 socket, and it seems (for now at least) than LGA1156 will be limited to quads and lower. As both platforms mature - the LGA1156 socket will be aimed at mainstream computers, while the LGA1366 socket will be aimed at performance computers for enthusiasts. So if you are the type of use who just wants a fast computer without a whole lot of mucking around, and price is a factor - then the i7 860 is an excellent choice. If you are an overclocker who enjoys a challenge and misses the pre-Penryn days of overclocking, then the i7 860 will prove a worthy adversary. If, however, you are performance-oriented and want to overclock your chip as much as possible with as little effort as possible - and/or you are interested in a future upgrade to a 6- or 8-core CPU, then the i7 860 and it's LGA1156/P55 platform is not for you.

Good microprocessor
Comment:
The microprocesor runs cool and it is very fast. It is an excellent choice in conjunction with my ASUS P7P55D Delux motherboard. The supplied heat sink compound is adequate but gamers and over clockers might want to use a professional heat sink compound that will obtain lower temperatures. I used TIM Consultant's compound with excellent results.

I won't add benchmarks or any technical details. I'll keep it simple, at the moment I'm using it with Vista (awaiting for my copy of Windows 7) and so far it runs absolutely flawlessly.I've had fantastic performance in gaming, video processing, and overall day to day PC use. I was not disappointed and anxiously await to see how it fairs with Windows 7.

Pros:Great for over-clocking and synthetic applications
Comment:
We needed to get some serious horsepower for a virtualization PC we were building at work. The i7 860 fit the bill for the price. I haven't looked at the over-clocking side of things yet, but even at stock levels, this thing performs great. Good value for money and worth every penny.
