Its nice to have a floppy in addition to all the other removabelt media. Seeing as my antec p180 only has room for one particular three.five" bay i needed to conserve the floppy runs kinda loud and what in the planet is with the usb running outside the case and to the back?!!? thats pretty ridiculous. I guess if you dont mind the funky USB cord connection its ok, but its so friggin ugly.

This unit looks very good, is effectively produced and functions as it need to. The passthrough plate for the usb cable is a plus for machines with no internal header. none

It can read SDHC, comes with selection of white or black (change the faceplate that's in the box), and the cable is long sufficient to hide in the case to make it's way out the back. No drivers required, works with windows 7. I gave this 4 eggs due to the fact it would have Genuinely been good to have this hook to an internal header. The floppy utilizes a 40-pin cable and power separately from the card reader, which draws from the usb. It's fundamentally a card reader sandwiched with a floppy drive, as two separate units in one fixture. I didn't install the drivers, and you in all probability wont will need to either. I had planned on not installing them when i bought it. DO NOT "safely remove" the drive when you're accomplished using whatever is in that specific drive. Otherwise, you'll have to unplug the cable and plug it back in.

It works and does almost everything it should, if you want raid, you will need a floppy, and card readers are great. Plugs in by means of external USB slot, which i in fact like since it frees my internal header to have a 2nd front panel usb hub. All the card slots are employed as drive letters even if no card is put in

This works perfectly for me, and continues to function even now. It saves space by combining a laptop floppy drive and a slim media reader into one three.5" bay. The two devices are completely independent, but housed in the very same 3.5" frame. It's simple to take away them if necessary, in case anything ever gets stuck inside. Media reader has an external USB cable, which is incredibly lame. They did this to make it straightforward for noobs to install. I wish they would have included a normal motherboard header connection cable to swap out (it is removable at the media reader unit). I spliced the cable and connected it to a spare USB header connector I had and it operates fine directly off the motherboard. It makes use of the older USB 1.Ǘ.1 pin layout. I seriously doubt that the media reader transfers at USB two. speeds. It appears pretty slow, but it nevertheless functions great. Reading flash sticks is a convenience for me, not a everyday task, so I don't mind the lower speed. It comes with the black face plate pre-installed, but also incorporates a beige face plate.

I submitted a prior review on this component beneath "Just Plain Lousy." Since then I have known as Newegg to see if they would send me a floppy so I could make up for the DOA. Instead, they are going to send me a brand new unit, not return, no muss, no fuss. So, as to Newegg, I give them a 5 but, as far as the component is concerned, it nevertheless is just plain lousy. The component itself, DOA. This experience has, again, reinforced my high regard for Newegg. In reality, this creates a dilemma. If you do enterprise with any other vendor, you will count on the same level of service you get from Newegg. Guess what; it doesn't perform that way. Newegg is a globe apart from your common corporation and it's service. In other words, Newegg spoils you for absolutely everyone else. They are so excellent, they are THE standard for buyer service.

Sleek searching front that reads practically any card you can throw at it (as nicely as floppy's, if you nevertheless have those points). This basically performs by getting a USB cord worm it's way by way of your case, out the back (using up 1 of your expansion slots) and then plugging into one of your USB connections. So it's pretty significantly a regular external card reader, with a pretty case. When installed it showed 4 new drives on "My Pc" that stay no matter what. I'm no Laptop or computer Engineer, but there's gotta be a much better way to do this. I was somehow hoping that the media reader could be integrated into the floppy IDE cable or anything, since just merely working a USB cable out the back of my case and then back and plugging it in produced me feel almost cheated. For the exact same price tag I could have bought an external reader and slept like a infant at night. I still gave it 3 eggs because every little thing worked the way it was supposed to, I just wish it did so in a various way (I dream).

Each and every drive operates... Great all-in a single with intergrated floppy.Purchased largely for RAID set-up.~ Don't want to see the card reader drives - unplug it!~Would get a different one particular! USB through back of case. Should give choice of either usb/sata. Running USB by way of PCI slot isn't a big deal given that I have a complete tower, but some people today may possibly not.

None so far, haven't powered up but... The interface for the cardreader is an external kind A male connector, rather than the normal five or 10 pin housing for an internal m-board header. (What had been they thinking?) Rather than running the cable out the back of the case and making use of up a single of the external USB ports on the board, I utilised a USB bracket comparable to Newegg's item #N82E16812226017. I mounted this to the backboard in one of the un-utilised threaded holes. Plugged it into the motherboard, and plugged the card reader into it.

Good floppy and card reader. Just a note to those reviewers who say the floppy doesn’t perform. The FDD connector on this floppy drive will install each ways. If the floppy doesn’t operate or tends to make loud noises try flipping the connector more than and attempt it again.

inexpensive. uncomplicated to install. no internal connection for usb. Had a devil of a time making the whole technique stable. As soon as USB and FDD connected program would shut down -- even with restart disabled. Had to update MOBO drivers. Get rid of Nvidia Fwall and even when disabled, program was still unstable. Ultimately managed to get technique operating following a week of waiting for parts and researching. Absolutely nothing in their knowledgebase had mention of this and I would feel it would be really frequent. another cable or separate cable for connecting USB internally would be a good set up. Much more info in knowledgebase.

Functions! Floppy drive actually works flawlessly so far (had to test it out with Memtest86 and RAID drivers). Installation was regular, all drivers were recognized proper away (Vista 32), every thing was smooth sailing all the way by way of. USB cable for the card reader was very long (even in my gynormous case it had handful of inches to spare). Came with a black cover, matched my case perfectly. Bay installation was common and easy. Poor style of the USB through PCI port. It must be an selection to connect it to the actual USB slots on mobo, but rather it sticks out in the rear - no huge deal, it's a mess of wires anyways backthere. I was contemplating of cutting up the cable and swapping USB connector on the end and plugging into my mobo, but have larger fish to fry Great for the cost. Every thing you may need to have... other than like tape drives. Satisfied with the purchase, good floppy/card reader combo - get it!

FD and slots all function effectively. Vista saw all drives with no issues. Great having every thing in one compact location. As other people have stated, install the USB cable following your OS is installed. No internal USB headers. I wanted to get the Scythe, but due to some conflict, they cannot sell them in the US (exchange and shipping from Europe was to a lot, and no 1 in Canada who had them shipped to the US). This seemed to be the next ideal one, I got 3 and have had no difficulties with any of them. I employed a MB supplied internal USB cable, unscrewed it from its bracket and viola, an internal USB connection, absolutely nothing outside the case.

Uncomplicated install, multi format is fantastic and it was read and worked inside minutes. Wonderful cost as properly as looks. Not to confident about the usb cable, it is a fancy metalic silver bling cable though ;-) Nice to have all the options in one location. Fills the void in the front of the case and works good... thank you newegg.

Every laptop or computer must have 1 of these. What can I say, except it delivers specifically what it promises. The capacity to read\write to floppy disks and a lot of kinds of digital media. None to speak of! If you don't like the USB cable going out the back of your box, do what I did, and get an expansion card with an internal port. I use an IOGEAR PCI to USB2. Card.

Reads every single type of card I try in it. The floppy hookup is seperate and uses a regular floppy cable. The card reader hookup cable has a USB male "A" connector rather of a header plug, but that can be fixed with an adaptor. If you're worried about the card reader forcing Windows to recognize your hard drive right after the card slots (for example, installing XP to the G: drive) that really depends on your motherboard and SATA settings, not the card reader you use. If you do have that challenge just install the OS with the card reader disconnected and hook it up later.

I wanted yet another card reader floppy combo, this 1 was the cheapest of those that I saw. You can't use the USB header on the mobo, require to run by means of the back (has the appropriate fitting although) .. a bit funky but it works. Looks fine from the front, you dont notice the added cable operating out and into a USB header.

Relatively inexpensive. Does what it is supposed to do. Black/Beige choices are a plus. Light doesn't stay on at all times - only when in use - not like other units. USB connector is lame. They should contain an adaptor. It's also a shame the floppy drive isn't USB.For those who aren't a fan of the USB-plug-out-the-back; I discovered an adaptor for ten bucks - google for 'mobohead2usb'.Had they included an adaptor this 1 would be a fiveǛ.

I wish I would have gotten this thing a long time ago. Uncomplicated to install as it replaced my old 3.five floppy drive. Windows xp sp3 read it and installed drivers for it automatically. No will need to use the drivers sent with the device. I have 3 different devices that use various kinds of cards. This factor has read everyone of them flawlessly. I also really like the fact that I don't have to plug it into my USB slot on the mobo as that would eradicate two of my USB ports. I genuinely prefer the approach this 1 utilizes and the cable is plenty long to accomplish such. I need to have bought this sooner. It comes with a white faceplate if you need to have it match a white case. If you're like me and want to retain the two extra USB ports you gained by plugging in a USB PCI card, you'll love this card reader.
