So far I've been through ten Phillips dvd+r and Close to a full 50 stack of memorex cd-r. I've only created a single coaster out of a cd-r, I'm pondering the cd itself was poor from the start out as it took a whilst for the burner to even recognize it, then in no way got more than 4x even though burning. Seems to be whisper fairly atleast compared to my ten year old liteon dvd readed above it. LightScribe works fine requires about 25 minutes to burn. Burns a cdr in just over 5 minutes at 48x including a information verify, and a dvd+r in about 12 minutes at 16x such as a data verify. Don't have any 24x dvd to test full speed. Did a lot of shopping about, this was the 1st I looked at, but I didn't like how it's a rebranded Sony Optiarc. I in no way use litescribe so that didn't impact my choice either. It does beautiful light-scribe and reads discs just fine. 1 out of ten dvds i burn works. Burning CD's is just fine. This is employing Xilisoft/Nero/win burner and other different programs with the same dilemma. I have also tried unique discs. DVD burners have been out for years upon years now. For now it reads plan files from a disc that was not burnt with this drive. Burns disc, but absolutely nothing can read them. Tends to make an audio CD like a data disc, because when can you add files to an audio disc after it has been finalized. With this incredible piece of junk you can. Unit does not put create in, create out on disc and does not finalize them. Attempted many burning applications that function nicely with other drives, same final results. Own numerous lite-on drives. Some are at least ten years old and still function fine. Not this 1, and I will not purchase a different lite-on drive once again.
