Fantastic although they worked All of them have blown capacitors. DO NOT OPEN THEM TO CHECK FOR BLOWN CAPACITORS! I was on hold with Netgear trying to get RMAs for all these switches, when i decided to open them and check to see if it was the capacitors like described on these forums. All of them had blown capacitors. I told the lady on the phone this and she typed out the issue, then transferred me to a person else. He informed be that because I opened them up, that I voided all the warranties and they could do nothing at all. Even even though they know they have a negative product, and that I have four circumstances of stated item, they can't replace them. All I did was slide the cover back and appear at the capacitors. I am so angry! The guy even told me, that even if you open it up, tell the person on the telephone that you didn't.

Great switch. Great assistance and untouchable warranty service. Read the warranty supplied for the Prosafe series on netgear web page. This warranty tends to make this device worth twice as substantially. None! No issues with gigabit connections. Elevated transfer rates on my network.

Plug it in and let it go. Auto negotiate, supports jumbo frames, independent ports. Have three of these, transfering TB of information each few days, 5-20GB at a time, really dependable switch. Lifetime warranty (which has come in handy). Had an earlier version 񢉗'ish) fail, RMA'ed to Netgear with no hassle. The present version (I have 3) have been running 24ǝ for months with (almost) no troubles. Did have to power cycle one particular of them following a power failure, but I'm not sure if it was the switch or the router. I suspect a routing table got corrupted. I adore these switches. I also have the five-port version, and also like it, but 5 ports just isn't adequate. I may well take into account the 16 port ProSafe version, but the price/performance isn't rather the very same, and my installation is spread out which makes the 8-port additional useful (I cascade them for small islands of computers, rather than run lengthy network drops).

I've been creating my own computers for years and oftentimes it seems that absolutely nothing functions with no some tweaking - until I bought the GS108. I took it out of the box, plugged in my network cables and plugged in the power. Worked right away devoid of the require for ANY configuration. Doesn't get any less complicated than that. None at all. Unit has a solid really feel and is created from metal not plastic. Consider that! My home network now runs at gigabit speed which is very nice when transferring files and streaming my videos.

Nice metal case, plug and play (it's an unmanaged switch so not considerably to do here), gigabit ethernet Died right after just more than a year This switch chugged along just fine for just more than a year in my home network until all the lights began blinking and it stopped passing packets. It seems like a high-quality item, except I have never had a switch fail on me that rapidly.I thought I was just "lucky" but it seems at least a few others have had the same concern.

- Jumbo frames- Seemingly strong construction- Decent performance- Lifetime warranty - Fails soon after a year or so of heavy operate I have 6 if these operating in my household lab. They work excellent proper up until the day they die. Unfortunately that is commonly within 1-two years of 1st powering them on. The lifetime warranty is a ought to have since of this.Of the six I have operating I'm now in the method of RMA'ing the 4th one so far. Good thing I retain a spare Linksys just in situation. As talked about in other evaluations, it's most likely a matter of cheap capacitors. You'd consider NetGear would have figured this out by now.For the record, I've had each v1 and v2 switches fail on me. My newest RMA is going to be replaced with a v3. We'll see how extended that 1 lasts.Contrary to other comments, their tech assistance is usually rather swift and painless -Me: "My switch died. It won't power on".Tech: "Have you attempted a distinct energy adapter?"Me: "Yes. It still doesn't energy on."Tech: "Have you tried a distinct energy socket?"Me: "Yes. It still doesn't power on."Tech: "Okay, let me produce a RMA for you."Performed.

Gigabit Ethernet - Jumbo Frames Unmanaged For a Military, now telecom guy. It's been second nature to ground my gear whenever possible. So when I see a grounding stud on any piece of gear I run a wire and make darn (censored) certain it's grounded. Possibly for some men and women they believe this is an solution and I have this weired feeling that these are the similar folks that are having issues with these switches, but this is just a guess. I have no issues with lights, heat, rebooting or ESD and my switch is grounded. All of these symptoms, are , of course , poor grounding difficulties. But don't take my word for it, ground your switch and see if it runs cooler/better.

Sturdy metal case. My very first 1 died with the very same blinking-light pattern as other people have had. Netgear rep spent some time on the phone with me to satisfy them that it was the unit (or possibly the energy supply). The replacement unit worked fine for months but far more and additional often offers network failures (connection drops) under high network load; was tough to diagnose simply because I hadn't suspected the switch. As soon as I replaced it (with an inexpensive Rosewill unit I was working with elsewhere, incidentally) all the network problems disappeared. I'm off to uncover my receipts for warranty return/replacement. :( I wanted to preserve this unit over the Rosewill one simply because it has deeper buffers, but alas. I gave this unit two eggs only due to the fact it *was* working for a even though.

Fantastic switch for the money. Plenty of ports. Jumbo Frame Support. Right after about a year of solid use the switch stopped working. Has the flashing LED's challenge. Guess I'll have to try to see if Netgear will honor the lifetime warranty on this.

Operates at 100Mbps. Won't do 1Gbps!!! I purchased this because my present network was 100Mbps and I wanted to raise transfer speeds in between the Computer's on my network. My Computer's have all have gigabit ethernet ports so I picked up some cat6 cables and this switch so I could get a great speed enhance. Regrettably, it only connects at 100Mbps. I even attempted forcing the nic to do 1000Mbs instead of auto-negotiate and am nevertheless stuck with 100Mbps. It was a full waste of money for me. YMMV

Wonderful item for the value. Jumbo frames make minimal distinction on a property network, but it is nice it supports it. None thus far. The associated product, the GS108T, is also a excellent item if you will need any management options. Otherwise, performance is superior than expected.

Small, lightweight, nicely built, and it in fact does everything the advertisements say it will - quite unusual these days. None that I've discovered so far. This unit is replacing a TP Link gigabit switch I place in my system 2 years ago, I seen a speed and efficiency improvement as soon as I started placing it by way of it's paces. I have two Netgear switches I finally retired immediately after about five years of constant, trustworthy service, and I think this a single will be just as very good.

These are wonderful little gigabit switches. I have 5 acres with multiple buildings, all wired for ethernet. The switches are inside unheated buildings (NW Washington state) and they in no way fail. They simply drive signals 300-500 feet amongst buildings (even even though that's technically over length). I use normal Cat-5 and underground Cat-5 cable in conduit, based on exactly where the wires go. Absolutely nothing that I can consider of. Back in the olden days there was a dilemma with "puffy" capacitor failures. That's extended gone, and the newer switches have been flawless for me.

Responses look more rapidly for overall bandwidth was quicker on my linksys gig/n wireless. I necessary a lot more ports so I went with this. On my linksys, I could get 90-105MB/s and I have not been able to get this a single over 60MB/s. Could be 1 of the computers causing the slowdown but I cant inform since I dont have any very good test application. no application to test my connection among computers and my trial of passmark performancetest expired.
