Comment:
It's low cost, and can push data fast for a low cost switch. Out of the two I got, 1 drops down to 100mb/s about every two weeks. I have to energy cycle it to get 1gb/s back. I want a third switch, but will most likely attempt a diverse brand.

incredibly swift assembly and nearly no "initial setup" to wait for right after plugging in ethernet. You don't have to use the stand clips if you don't want to.Its also genuinely shiny :D none unless you don't like shiny. would be nice to have an indicator for whether the incoming line is receiving 100mB/s or even total gigabit. but I digress.

Great pricepoint for gigabit overall performance Runs a bit warm. I have it vertically oriented as I was concerned over stacking it close to anything else horizontally. Also, with most machines gigabit capable I seldom connect at gigabit speeds; it seems incredibly sensitive to the cabling you use. Some short cables rated at CAT6 do not handshake at 1Gbit, although other individuals do. Running at 100 just doesn't cut it for me, hence the acquire and subsequent frustration, Can sustain up to 90MB/sec transfers with two WD Black Edition drives on separate machines when gigabit connected. Awesome.

'm a moron who was to laze to wire all 8 pins on my Cat 5e Network cable. You will need quality Cat 5e cable or Cat 6 with all 8 pins wired. I'm a moron who was to laze to wire all 8 pins on my Cat 5e Network cable. You need quality Cat 5e cable or Cat 6 with all 8 pins wired. You are not limited by the slowest network appliance on your network, and it took me a 2nd personal computer to realize it. (Green light = 1Gb/s, Yellow/Orange light = 100 Mbs/)

low-cost, gigabit As soon as multicast video information is sent over the regional ethernet network from the Uverse Gateway to the Uverse STB if this switch is on the network it will get flooded and all website traffic is impacted. As soon as the television was on or the dvr recording I would loose my wireless access point and the tv picture would freeze up and get choppy. I researched this and found it is a known issue and only a couple of switches function nicely with Uverse multicast video, such as, the blue metal Netgear switches, particularly the eight-port gigabit 1 with a larger buffer. I tried to go low cost this time and it didn't work out. I have an 8-port blue one and it operates fine with the multicast. Or just plug the Uverse STB straight into the Uverse Residential Gateway, which also handles the multicast effectively.

Low price GB Switch. Effortless to install and use. Broke following 11 months of use. Flashed "Network Cable unplugged" and then "connected" on all attached computers about just about every 5 seconds. When removed this switch, theis issue stipped. Also, directions that came with the switch DO NOT indicate what the "Yellow" and "Green" port number lights mean. I was capable to tell from the PCs connected that "Green" indicates connected at 1GB, and "Yellow" indicates connected at 100MB. This should be in the Directions or Technical Specifications.

Like the title says...performs fantastic until it doesn't. And my encounter is that it won't operate ahead of extended. I purchased 3 of these units about 18 months ago. Virtually right away, one of them dropped dead. Power-cycling the router would get it working for a handful of hours or perhaps a few days prior to the issue repeated. A couple of months later, an additional a single exhibited the similar challenge; sooner or later, each became entirely unresponsive, even following power-cycling them. I am about to replace all 3 units, considering that it's safe to assume that I can't trust the remaining unit to maintain operating. I didn't go to Netgear for service/replacement considering that dealing with that process for units that cost meฮ-ุ new basically isn't worth my time. The bottom line: I can't recommend this unit, nor will I trust any other Netgear customer-line merchandise as a outcome of my knowledge. I have a Netgear FVS114 firewall (from their enterprise line -- i.e. the blue-case gear) that works perfectly, so I will continue to use/recommend Netgear's company-class equipment.

Style, gigabit, price Stopped operating in less than six months. Keep away for netgear products - i've purcahsed six over the last couple of years and ALL of them burned out in less than a year. Repairs? Fantastic luck - they don't make that easy at all.

We personal a modest organization and use 1 server with two lan cards to manage the network. This switch was destined for the internal network which connected to three workstations and 1 laptop. When it worked, I didn't consider twice about the switch. Right after 2 weeks, the network went down. At very first I believed this was an OS issue, but troubleshooting showed it was the switch (I replaced this switch with an older 4-port and anything worked once more). My greatest guess is the switch overheated. Even so, we left the switch sitting on leading of a workbench in an air-conditioned space. We also have moderate network usage -- e-mail and web browsing. No heavy file transfers or something. We bought an additional (cheaper!) switch from NewEgg and 2+ months later no complaints about the network.I tried employing this switch once again at property, and after 1 week it died as effectively.

5 port Gig SWITCH!! Smaller, a lot smaller then i believed. Which is great in my book Color scheme. (this is why i am not taking any egg's away). I just wish they provided this in a lot more colors I have the WNR854t router. I also have the 8 port gig switch in my key room (with router). I ran a information cable over to my laundry room/work space. Now I have my perform space running on a gig network. I have had my 8 port switch for more than a year now with no issues so I decided to get his little brother

inexpensive Flickers in and out of reset. Cannot maintain 1Gbps link for far more than a second, then all links drop out, reappear, repeat. 100Mbps links are greater, but it nevertheless resets a couple times a minute. Unusable.

Modest AC adapter, all of the ports are working. As straightforward as hooking up a Cat6 patch cable to my intel gigabit card and now I'm sailing at gigabit-ish speeds. Your results may well vary according to what cabling you're using and the top throughput from your server. i didn't read the manual so i didn't realize at very first that amber status lights just signify a 100mbps connection; i believed there was some sort of error (green = gigabit). Removes a single bottleneck in my network.

These switches carry out as expected. I just bought my fourth one for the workplace, and haven't had any issues with them at all. Coming up on two years now, I think. Install and forget, just like I like them. Ugly. Vibrant white sticks out like a sore thumb with our decor. I haven't encountered any of the concerns that other people have been describing with any of my GS605s. I am pleased with their overall performance. Upkeep man-hours given that install on all have been .

Plugged it in and it just functions. I haven't had any difficulty with it all over the past month that I've had it. Really like the duel colored LEDs in the front( Green for 1000Mbps and Amber for 100Mbps ) that tell me the link speed. None An additional solid netgear item

Economical and operates fine with jumbo frames. I used a single of these to connect a database server and a net servers in a DC. They were under fairly heavy load, but the switch never had any trouble. Also had one in between the servers and the uplink to the DC, which also worked fine. The two servers used 1GB connections and the DC's uplink was 100MB. Not a metal enclosure. For the funds, I would completely advise these.

I bought two of these and the other is working fine. I will be contacting NetGear help and hope they swap it below warranty despite the warranty expiring 7 days ago.

None - None - None - None - None - None - None - None I purchased the NetGear GS605 & GS108 all within two days of each and every other in February 2007. The GS605 has verified to be unreliable. Soon after reviewing the comments that have been posted considering that my purchase last year. I am tell people to "STAY AWAY FROM NETGEAR" I have been on hold with their "Customer No Service Twice In the Last Two Days" and they are giving me a Extremely hard time about getting a replacement unit. I asked to replace this unit with a GS108 and Netgear wants me to pay ม.00 in shipping costs. I am now waiting for a call back from the "other" Client No Service Desk @ Netgear. I am not going to accept the similar model of switch it is not going to occur. I have my Netgear switches tied to my Netgear RangeMax Subsequent Wireless Router Gigabit Edition (WNR854T100NAS). Their is a patten right here. My have spent countly hours rebooting my Netgear Router to reset my VOIP Vonage phone adapter to get it to reconnect. So I am telling every person to stay away from Netgear "Totally Not Pleased Customer" - NewEgg should think about dropping this item line.....

It is inexpensive! It performs as expected (fast speeds)! None!!! In regards to overheating: I've constantly had difficulties with my DSL modem overheating, and as a result, have rigged a 120mm fan from a Pc case which aims directly across the modem. This little switch sits on top rated of that, so it stays cool. I've employed this at lan parties, and under no circumstances have issues overheating, but I assume it's a superior idea to fan all network issues, particularly if you stack them. All it expenses is a spare 120mm fan and a affordable way to power it.
