It worked for about two days... Exactly where to Start? Horrible Wifi reception even on N capable devices, it pops in and out. Variety is way less than advertised. I.E. The router is in the living area on the initial floor in a two story house(plus basement). Everything inside 30-40 feet functions fine, go outdoors that range and wifi slows to a crawl.(Not even bridges helped) On second floor I have no reception in any room. Keeps reseting priority listings. I have a operate desktop and four laptops, everytime much more than 2 men and women are on wi-fi my speed drops from a solid 5mbps to a paltry 512kbps.(Cable World wide web at 6mbp's). Poor instructions(Even for the technically inclined). But most of all what requires the cake is the Horrible Support. I spent practically 10 hours more than the previous week with Netgear support overseas. Not one particular individual could resolve my issues. Ontop of that the reception was so poor that I lost connection to netgear a number of occasions. What's worse is that everytime you contact netgear even for pre-sales, all of their get in touch with centers are overseas. I just cameback from the shop and exchanged this router. I purchased it barely a week ago as an emergency obtain from a local retailer. Set it up and it was operating nicely on Ethernet ports for about 2 days, till the router kept possessing to be reset to even connect to something. Everytime I went on with my laptop I had to reset and re-do the router installation. Which only helped till the subsequent time anyone went on the internet... QoS setup is horrible. I tried to limit the Wifi speed to 512k, but it impacted the Ethernet ports which were supposed to be highest priority.Help was useless, They could'nt support me with anything. Waiting 45 minutes to even get an individual who barely spoke english with such a heavy accent that only annoyed me even further. It's a shame though. I employed to use only netgear solutions since college, but no much more. The horrible client service and help has turned me off for ever!I miss my old 'D' brand router. A single dilemma and it was swiftly solved by support in the excellent ol

I bought this unit to go along with my Godchilds laptop. I set it up at my house and it worked fine. The interface was straightforward to function with and the GUI was effortless to work with. The signal strength is much better than other wireless units I have tried. At her residence they had a wireless printer and her laptop plus the Wii game console all functioning through it. It ran for 8 months and then it died. It turns out her father and personal computer geek neighbor mentioned it was useless immediately after "they" mesed with it. They sent it back to me and a reset by the pin hole button on the back got it operating. I then defaulted it back to the original firmware and upgraded yet again and it operates fine. I suspect they tried to do modifications for their on line gaming and as an alternative trashed it out fully. I'm sending it back to them with a password they will not know about. Her laptop was on windows 7 so it had no troubles but my other laptops on XP would not operate with WPA security. It is a wireless bug in Windows software package that was fixed in service pack two. I had to do some upgrades with Microsoft updates and it cleared the troubles. Your pc has to be up to date or it will not perform right. Next depending on the construction of the creating you are in you may well get very good or terrible distance off of a WI-FI unit. I'm tired of seeing complaining reports about a item and then you uncover out that a particular person is heavy into gaming plus they are executing on line video and they do not have at least a 15 mbs information line. The internal buffers of a wi-fi router controls almost everything and if you want to force feed 15 mbs of data by way of a unit for hours per day and feed to a number of sources then get a I-7 laptop with eight mbs of Ram with range max wi-fi units and devote about 赨.00 for a higher finish heavy duty industrial grade wireless setup otherwise anticipate to have troubles

Router was wonderful and a strong performer till sometime within the last 5 firmware revisions. For some cause, this router -- and reported other netgear routers -- don't seem to play nice with Steam. When you do a server refresh in any Steam game, the high quantity of servers the client tries to contact for a response time gets recorded in the router log as a DDOS attack. The outcome is that the router will not let you connect to any of these servers until you reset the router. I'd like to note that I've attempted port forwarding, disabling the SPI firewall, and everything else short of beating this issue with a stick and absolutely nothing fixes the problem. This occured sometime inside the last 5 firmware revision updates. I want I would have paid additional focus to which 1 broke it. Also undesirable DD-WRT doesn't support the WNR2000.

Looks cool, has been operating like a charm so far, has a power button, automatically configured itself soon after a handful of hours of being plugged in. Took a couple of hours to set up-- could not use integrated setup disc with windows 7 x64 so had to resort to manual setup. Could not access the router config web page for the initially handful of hours. When I checked back the router had automatically configured itself, which was cool.

Effortless setup whether employing the CD or the net based versions....less than five minutes to set up. When it does function, it's pretty excellent....but that isn't for very extended. It flat out doesn't perform on a constant basis. NO, I'm not an IT Skilled, but I know my way around fairly properly when it comes to tech stuff. You shouldn't have to reset a router 3-4 instances A DAY or install Tomato or Peach or WW- Whatever....it need to work out of the box! I had a D-Link DI-624 G wireless router that was a ROCK for five+ years...if I reset the thing a half a dozen times in that period of ownership, that was a lot. I by no means turned it off or did something particular to it until it died a quick death. I bought this router on a recommendation of a tech guy. Got it property, out of the box, Incredibly speedy and straightforward setup...lights blinking...ready to go. It connected nicely to desktop, 3 laptops, and an XBox 360...That's where it began to have troubles! Now I don't know from getting a router and installing Tomato or some other operating method, this factor Should perform out of the box and I also was so confused by all the evaluations right here by the 'I'm an IT skilled and...." It really should perform OUT OF THE BOX! This thing drops the signal consistently...or it goes from 148Mps to 27Mps to 103Mps to 130Mps to 50Mps to none (reset) to 130Mps to 103Mps to 30Mps to none (reset)...and so on. Back to the retailer it went and got a different 1....identical precise factor. Possibly we had been spoiled.

Wired networking is fine. Decent interface to router tends to make it pretty simple to configure and it has really a couple of capabilities for a "cheap" wireless router. I use my network for > 12 hours a day each and every day and with the exception of the wireless challenges, it's held up pretty nicely. Wireless authentication breaks effortlessly and calls for frequent manual reset of the router. (There's tiny beneficial advice obtainable in forums -- such as Netgear's; Netgear charges for reside person calls.) Bridging was additional difficult to set up than advertised and is limited to WEP safety. I strongly discourage anyone from employing these devices in densely populated places, or areas with many other wireless signals in range. It looks good, but is cheaply constructed. I purchased two of these due to the fact I wanted to prevent pulling a one hundred' wire by way of my apartment. The bridging was complicated to set up, poorly documented and unreliable. I ultimately went with electrical outlet networking which worked perfectly. Don't get into the bridging hype unless you're performing so under perfect conditions: i.e. few if any other wireless networks in range, you don't care about poor and antiquated WEP safety.

Replaced my decrease-level Netgear DG834G wireless router due to the fact that resulted in spotty wireless signal from the downstairs of our property (router is upstairs). Following a couple of years, we would be lucky to even get a wireless connection and generally times our hard wired Computer would generally lose signal and we would have to reset the router about as soon as a week. Our old router resulted in download speeds of 25MBPS. Even even though the other router had a max of 54MBPS I had a feeling we might get much better outcomes due to the fact this one is rated up to 300MBS. I was ideal. The funny factor is, our online service is only supposed to go up to 25MBS, but we presently get 32MBS challenging-wired. My laptop also gets 21MBPS from downstairs on the other side of our 3,000 sq ft residence. Plus the design is extremely sleek and appealing. Seems solidly built. Was plug and play with Windows 7 64-Bit household premium and was a breeze to configure. None Great value!

Getting superior connection than just before (see previous review). Have to reset less (see earlier critique). Acquiring substantially greater speeds in windows 7's network center (from 54 to nearly 200 mbps) as opposed to below 15 from prior to.WOULD Advise Acquiring THIS ROUTER, Regardless of CONS! bad wifi interference, but its actually not this router's fault. Nevertheless, worth mentioning that if your pc/itouch/whatever is going to be much more than 50 or so feet away from the router, specially if the signal would go by a kitchen or external walls (such as if you're outside) then wifi interference with this router will kill your speed.Nonetheless have to reset occasionally (once each and every 1 or two weeks).WOULD Advise Acquiring THIS ROUTER, In spite of CONS! Identified my challenge (see previous post) was wifi interference from numerous devices/neighbor's wifi. modified wifi channel from automobile (default) to 2, which drastically improved connection. Still get some interference and I program to acquire a repeater or a powerline resolution to increase connection to outdoors and outermost regions of the property.Seldom if ever have to reset wireless now, but nevertheless get some packet loss and connection dropping on occasion (about as soon as just about every 1 or two weeks it takes place till I reset router)

Straightforward to setup. Looks cool. Price tag. I was acquiring poor reception to 1 of my computers in the other space but all I had to do was spot the router on a greater place and now the signal went from moderate to robust. This created a large distinction of course and the weird thing is that it was only a difference of like 1 foot. So if you're getting trouble with signal, I would play around with the place of the router. The newer model I consider has a usb port for a tough drive but I'll just have to make due for now. Newegg rocks!

good router fairly effortless to setup. I don't like the truth that this router doesn't help loopback. loopback is when a website is hosted on a machine behind the router employing port forwarding you will not be in a position to use the port forwarding function from behind the router. Really bothersome. Working with hosts file can bandaid the concern, but nevertheless don't like that this feature isn't included in ALL netgear routers.

Straightforward install, cool style w/ internal antennas, robust signal efficiency and range. Only does mixed mode signal. Only network mode selections are 54Mb/s, 150Mb/s, and 300Mb/s. No choices based on actual B, G, or N modes. Only sends mixed mode signals. I bought a wireless N adapter for my XBox360, and the only signal it would choose up is G. Attempted Netgear tech support, and they mentioned that it wasn't doable to send just an N signal. Bought a D-Link DIR-655 and my XBox360 now picks up the N signal, even in mixed mode. Go figure. Ended up RMAing the Netgear.

Stylish, space saving, good brand name.. Had to RMA, challenge occurred once again with constant signal drop outs, I by no means had a single difficulty like this with my WGR614 NETGEAR router.. I'll be receiving the WNR3500 Gigabit N Router as an alternative, and from the critiques I don't think I'll have a challenge. I really like NETGEAR goods and I believe I just received a lemon is all. Yet another point, I couldn't connect with my T-Mobile wifi at residence cell phone.

Fantastic efficiencySensible rangeUncomplicated to set upLittle form factor/footprint Affordable, flimsy standLack of external antenna limits rangeNo CLI, and browser-based interface sucksRestricted functionality/features Skip the CD (I'll admit I didn't appear at it); browse to http:/롘.168.1.1, log on making use of username "admin" and password "password," and away you go. The setup wizards ought to be enough for all but the most brain-dead.Sadly, the interface is pretty feeble even by customer standards. It's clunky, slow, poorly-organized...just bad. If you are an IT expert you will truly roll your eyes when you see it. Most of the standard functionality you may well count on is there, but you'll come across yourself hunting around for it plenty and, like most consumer gear, you don't seriously have any way to configure the thing.Nonetheless, if you set your expectations appropriately for a sub-๠ piece of customer networking gear (I purchased mine from a guy on CL for โ), you'll probably be satisfied.

Perhaps I've been the exception, but I have had excellent experience with my router. Purchased this back in March of 2009, in the course of the initial couple of months, there were a couple of reset's expected, but given that then, this has been a smooth operating experience. Wife's VIAO has experienced download speeds as high as two.3MB/Sec (Though typical is around 1.2MB/Sec) We reside in a two story house, about 1800SqFt, Have had fantastic reception trough entire residence. Have not had heat issues, it actually sits on my workplace desk tucked behind the LCD, and subsequent to the cable modem. Network communication with other Pc's in the home and networked printers has been as expected or far better. Didn't come with a XBox 360.
