Works very well for my application
Comment:
I have this Ethernet Switch for a few weeks now. It has been working quite well. It is very stylish compared to other Ethernet switches. I did notice that there was a hot spot on the case when it was under constant load with multiple ports running at the same time. Probably where the Ethernet Switch chip is located. Overall, it is a great product and works very well.

Performs as Stated

This router has been great to me. My roommate and I bought two. He paid for one and I the other. We have a house-wide gigabit network that often gives me transfer speeds close to 80MB/s which I think is about as fast as our computers can load from the hard drive. It's faster than USB2 or Firewire obviously, so it makes it the perfect solution for shuffling large files.

So far so good

I bought this a month ago, it does the job well. I just hope it lives longer than some sad story I read.

I've had mine for over a year now. ''0'' issues. I run game and web servers on multiple systems 24/7 and keep it running on all ports at all times. No load or heat issues. The switch does get warm and should be given plenty of space to let the heat dissipate since it's not fan cooled. As long as it used in an open area you should be quite pleased with this switch's performance, especially at this price.

Fantastic product. Just got it today plug it in and worked perfect. No adjusting needed. Feature i like is that it adjusts each connection speed for each component you have pluged into it based on 10/100/1000. also i like the fact that you can daisy chain it off a router you are already using. So if you have internet phone you dont have to disconnect it, very nice. also comes with a stand.

I bought the refurbished model for $24 not the new one listed here, but who cares!. the product was awesome so simple to setup. It doesnt have a specific uplink port, because you dont need one. it will automatically recognize a router in any port you plug it into. really neat. works great. the only thing i dont understand are the the differrent color lights for each port i have plugged in. who cares its working fine.

Netgear - GS608 - 8-Port Gigabit Network Switch
Comment:
The switch itself runs great, no problems at all. Gigabit Ethernet, however, is not yet ''gigabit.'' There are too many bottlenecks in today's computers which prevents them from actually performing at gigabit speed. The average memory bandwidth is 400 MHz, (needs at least 1000 MHz). Also, for large file transfers, hard disks are too slow for gigabit, so don't expect to be able to transfer enormous files like lightning. It is faster, but not remarkably so. You can do a few things to improve network performance, but you won't get a full gigabit. 10K rpm hard disks such as SCSI or some SATA drives will allow faster data transfer, along with high-end DDR2 at 800 MHz or so. Finally, the Ethernet card needs to be PCI Express, since the PCI bus is much too slow to handle gigabit trasfer rates. However, gigabit networks are harder to clog up with network traffic. Gigabit switches can handle lots of data, even though computers can't. But computers will eventually catch up.

Basic switches that work well. Plug them in and they run. Gig speed is great. Highly recommended.
