Sleek, looks great, great length power & USB cords. Effortless to setup & use! The tiny booklet that came with the device explained everything you want to know. Lights from the enclosure is discrete (not insanely bright like other enclosure I've applied prior to) Fan's a small loud, but not a big deal. You can also turn the fan off if you'd like Excellent device! Would suggest it to anyone!

Wel built Wouldn't perform with 2 x1.5Tb WD Green drives even with the most recent firmware. It would only recognise a max of 2Tb total in either large or JBOD mode. Had to return. It may well perform with other kinds of drives but that would need additional expense unfortunately

FanSimple to instal tricky drivesHuge Mode (I don't use it, personally, but it seriously is an advantage to be able to combine 2 difficult drives of various sizes and make 1 tough drive pool.)Was able to format a 2TB Western Digital Caviar Green Drive (WD20 EARS-00MVWB0) to total format size, in spite of the limitation being claimed at 1TB. No eSATA (though there is the R2-RAID by Rosewill)No RAID help (again, see the R2-RAID by Rosewill)No ethernet (NAS is far more costly, wouldn't count on to see it on this level of device anyway)No support for disabling of either of the 2 bays individually. No switch or cover for on and activity lights. They aren't as well obtrusive, but I do have this hooked up to my laptop setup in my bedroom. A tiny electrical tape does the trick, but would be good to see a smaller dip-switch to just turn them off. I'm actually set on Network Attached Storage with RAID five and 2 drive parity, but until that is inexpensive, this seems like it's going to get me through quite nicely in the mean time. Really great dual bay USB external enclosure for an inexpensive cost.

Wonderful design. You have NO cables to deal with in this unit. You just slide the drive straight into the SATA receiver port inside and viola! Looks wonderful. Self cooled with Fan. Aluminum construct is light and robust. SLOW SLOW SLOW! Finest speed = around 50MBpsUsual speed = about 14.7 MBps I don't know what speeds are Feasible out of these enclosures, but I know that USB two. will carry up to 480 MBps, and Sata will carry up to 3GBps. So why I'm averaging 14.7MBps is beyond me. I have no difficulty out of the drive, but EVEN IF I'M TRANSFERING FROM A single DRIVE IN THE DEVICE TO THE OTHER DRIVE IN THE Very same DEVICE, IT IS Nevertheless AT 14.7 MBPS. Maybe eSATA is greater at this. I don't know why you would want eSATA even though, lead to USB Really should be capable to handle fantastic speeds. I purchased this enclosure simply because 5200 RPM external drives are slow. ha ha, jokes on me.

Performs effectively, plain and simple. Loaded it with 2x2TB Samsung "green" kind drives. They sustain temps of about 27C when idle and have not peaked above 36C at load use whilst benchmarking disc using the Gnome Disk Utility in Linux Mint 10. Fan is quiet.Major mode does operate for a 4TB massive-kahuna drive. However, you must don\'t forget to implement a GPT partitioning table and not an MBR one particular, as MBR is limited to 2TB max. Formatted to ext4 in Huge mode and it all worked fine with massive file copies that virtually filled the 4TB volume. Typical copy speed was about 33MB/s-expected with external green type drives. Nevertheless, I have decided to go with with JBOD to minimize any loss of a lot of information if just one of the drives were to fail. Every single formatted to exfat with an MBR table. No silly drivers required that are distinct to any OS. I use mainly with Linux Mint, but formatted to exfat utilizing windows7, and read off the drive in Mac osx 10.six.5 with out any issues At this price tag you can't complain, but esata would have been good, and I would have paid a bit much more for it. Its nonetheless early on, so I can not comment about reliability in the lengthy phrase. Got a 4TB external drive for nicely below 赨. Purchased this with shell shocker, got the samsung drives on sale at ๛ a pop, all from newegg. Very proposed, even came with mounting screws for the drives. The develop is solid, and on the complete aesthetically pleasing with absolutely nothing ostentatious about it. Appropriate now dealing with slow transfer speed in linux but that can be explained by my utilization of beta stage fuse exfat drivers/program. Windows exfat transfer was about 29MB/s employing a program referred to as Teracopy. Windows explorer was also pitiful to manage a large 1.1TB file copy. Hopefully linux exfat help will enhance down the line so I can bypass ever employing the misery that is windows. If not I'm back to thinking about ntfs for cross platform compatibility.

Uncomplicated to open and install drives. I was in a position switch out my two drives so that I could install a drive from a various personal computer to do diagnostics. I bought it 14 months ago and put in two Western Digital 1.0TB Green drives. Most of the time I left it powered off. With no warning it failed to operate. The energy light comes on but the Pc does not see the drives. I believed by leaving it powered off most of the time the unit would have an extended life, but now I have to acquire a replacement enclosure. I was capable to take away the two drives and they were not damaged. A 1-year extended warranty would have done me no good because it failed right after 14 months.Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,Thank you extremely significantly for purchase the R2-JBOD. The issue may be due to the USB cable failing. Please kindly get in touch with Rosewill support group either by way of telephone at 800-575-9885 or via e mail at rma@rosewill.com so we may assist you with a replacement cable. We are eager to help you in any attainable way. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks,Rosewill Consumer Care Since the data transfer function failed, the initial thing I did was test the information cable to see if it was the source of the problem. I replaced it with a distinct cable and had the exact same final results. Something on the small circuit board failed which triggered the enclosure to fail.

Solid ConstructionEye-catching DesignStraightforward to Assemble Poor good quality screws on drive enclosure Every thing went smoothly with this unit except that I could not eliminate two of the 4 tiny screws holding the enclosure collectively. Two screws came out very easily with a smaller precision screw driver, but I could not make nearly adequate torque to budge the other two. When I tried a greater screw driver, the screws quickly began stripping. I attempted just about every trick I know, but no luck. I was worried that I would be stuck with a useless brick.Despite everything I tried, I ended up with two stripped screws. With the screws recessed into the frame, there was no other way to get access to the screw heads. I had to drill them out and use a screw extractor to remove the screw heads. When I got the enclosure open, setting up the difficult drives was a breeze. Anything just worked.Anything else about this enclosure seemed to be of really high good quality. I hope that Rosewill will fix this 1 flaw in their design.

Small. Simple to open and install drives It's a bit loud and apparently not trusted with 1.5TB HDs. The Power supply seems weak. Time will tell. I installed one Seagate 1.5TB HD and a Hitachi 1TB HD into the unit. It seemed to operate fine, but I identified that my automated backups had been failing. Did some investigation and located a firmware update (windows only) to update the unit to accept 2TB HDs, but it did not operate with the 1.5TB HD I had installed. I had to move the Seagate drive to one more enclosure and put a 1TB (WD green) in it's location to make the Rosewill enclosure reputable.

After possessing this in service for more than 1 month now I give the device a solid 5 stars! Please take my assessment to consideration... to avoid failure of drives installed make sure you know the drive you are installing and its life cycles. If you use a drive that is made for continuous use (such as a dvr drive) you can\'t go wrong with this device. Utilizing a "green" drive, this unit will trigger the drive to fail prematurely due to more than cycling, I speak from expertise... I lost a 250GB "green" drive due to my own ignorance, no fault of the device. None if used for what it is intended. Please, know your difficult drives and their intended utilizes!

Have been making use of two units with two Hitachi Deskstar 1TB drives in each more than four months. Most days they run 24ǝ and the chassis are only slightly warm. I interchange them involving the Win-7 Computer and a Seagate Theater+ HD set-top rated unit. Great overall performance in either installation. Must've included an eSata port. Tempting fate... Subsequent step is 2TB units in each and taxing the set-top box with an enclosure plugged to both USB ports.. "Murphy" says they commence to go south immediately after the glowing critique!

I reseated them and meddled for a although with no luck. Ultimately I switched the drives around and it saw them each fine. Can't explain why this occurred but its operating fine now in JBOD mode.

I have been seeking for an external remedy for warehousing my audio/video files that was hard adequate to withstand the rigors of daily/pro-longed usage. This external case meets and even exceeds my expectations. I installed 2 1.5TB seagate ST31500341AS drives. This issue works extremely! It keeps the drives cool and is a really sturdy construction of aluminum. Drives were a breeze to set up and format. The manual says that you want to partition and format the drive just before putting in. I'm not positive if this is the truth but I employed a hot swappable bay to do the principal creation of the drives and all is properly on my side. It will accept 1.5TB drives so I am going to take a guess and say it should accept 2.0TB and 3TB drives as properly. It would be nice to have a tiny bit additional facts from the internet site about these enclosures (or on newegg)

For the value, this is a fantastic external enclosure that CAN be utilised as a RAID 1 (using mdadm). Hardware possibilities are JBOD or Huge (essentially a RAID ). The screws are tight on the back, but I thought the construction was just fine. The RAID 1 can be made making use of mdadm on linux machines. It is a bit tricky. I had to turn the unit of then on once again while entering this command really promptly "sudo mdadm --construct /dev/mdNN --levelɣ --raid-devicesɤ /dev/sd[DDΣ"Whereis the quantity of the md and DD is the letter of the drive.

I bought this is the backup for my NAS, but it is scary.Correct now I have a 1TB drive in a Rosewill single drive box attached to the NAS. It has a 50% Larger fan than this factor made for two drives. Exactly where is the thought approach? Small fan; or, just 1 as an alternative of two. Rosewill tech help (I am understanding!!)Could have had USB and eSATA. The single drive box does. It's affordable any a lot more. Now I am not sure aboutɅ. Trusting this box as a backup for NAS.2. Trusting this tiny fan to cool two 1.5TB drives as an alternative of frying them. And, what does this mean: "A 50mm fan keeps items running smoothly, and there's space for a power supply as big as you need." WHAT? Add a PS?Remain tuned.(Four eggs only due to the fact of the fan.)

Worked wonderful for about four months. Got it for ำ and no cost shipping. Right after four months, the drives appeared in Windows 7 about 75% of the time. Right after six months, the drives appeared about 50% of the time. The enclosure is recognized when I turn it on but not the two drives. I was supplied to RMA the unit but the shipping cost is also high to make it worthwhile. Will not be buying Rosewill again.

A lot smaller than I expected it to be with good top quality construction and a good appealing finish. The drive connectors inside are sturdy with a great snug fit. Incredibly great value when I grabbed it on Shellshocker. My fan is quiet, but doesn't appear to move much air. No screws in my box for installing difficult drives so be positive you have some on hand just in situation. Screws to secure the body are actually tiny so you will need to be extra cautious to avoid stripping. I necessary to combine two older drives to grow to be a backup place so I am making use of Huge format and its operating perfectly. A enormous improvement would be if it would enable the drive to totally spin/power down for power savings, which is a prevalent shortcoming of these kinds of enclosures.

Solid construction, stays pretty cool when making use of a fan, and just works. Doesn't rub my feet. I have two of these, and I've had no issues what-so-ever. I use 1 with two-2T drives in it for a 4 terabyte ripped Blu-ray monster hard drive. It operates good. I have never ever tried to use the "big drive" switch" to make it look like one drive. No reason to attempt, there's a lot of drive letters.

I was able to use Linux Software package RAID (mdadm) with the device. Fan is keeping the 2x2TB drive awesome Massive mode doesn't concatenate 2x2TB drives to 4TB, really unstable if you do.Not USB three. (I will get a USB3. version is a heartbeat)Tops out at 30MBps (Not genuinely a large deal because it's only becoming applied as Network Storage for streaming video) Bought this as a low-cost option to a bigger RAID enclosure boxes that expense a hundred plus dollars. As Linux (mdadm) does a greater job than most Hardware FakeRAID implementations, and it's far better at management also. I'm utilizing an old laptop as a server so USB is all I have.Poking around with a multimeter shows that this isn't really created for some power hungry 7200RPM and generally all 10000RPM drives. The external is USB2. so save your cash and go for reduce energy 5400RPM drives instead as you are bandwidth limited with USB2. anyway.Had to go to JBOD mode for Linux to recognize the 2 person drives. And then employed mdadm to do RAID0 as well as RAID1. I was going for max storage space so I settled for RAID0. I'm pretty confident that if I had one more a single of these enclosures I could have performed RAID5.
