I just needed a dual bay enclosure for added storage, this was the cheapest one around so I pulled the trigger and ordered it. No regrets right here. It's really quiet, super easy to install drives into and reasonably priced. None

Basic setup. Works well with Linux. Massive is a great feature for HTPC use. Built in cooling fan, with a separate switch. None that I can discover. Nicely believed out style. With the use of a Network USB adapter this issue is available to the entire network with no other laptop or computer necessary other than the HTPC.

Has a switch for the fan but you will want to leave it on.Works each in JBOD or Major. It runs quite warm. I really feel bad for the 50mm Cooling Fan. Much more direct ventilation with a larger fan or two fans working to push air via the case.38$ totally free shipping

I have this unit running with two 1.5 TB drives and it works like a champ! If you are searching for a huge external drive for storage, you can set this one particular up by picking up the tough drives when they come on sale and installing them into the unit. Energy cable comes loose with any tension but if you preserve the plug firmly seated in the back and avoid pulling or tugging on the cable you will not have a difficulty.

Comment:
The overall style of this enclosure is quite good. It has a high good quality fit and finish. Certain, we all want bigger and quieter fans, but let's not get picky with an enclosure - if you want quiet, put it in a huge case with lots of cooling! I couldn't get it to perform with any of my 2TB drives - even immediately after talking with their tech support (multiple occasions). To make matters worse, their firmware update utility only functions with windows! Eeek! I ended up RMA 2Ǚ enclosures, kept 1 to use with some smaller drives. I have yet another Rosewill two bay enclosure, a model they have since discontinued, but that 1 worked with 2TB drives! Overall, I really like these enclosures, wonderful product for the funds, but I'm sorry, fix your gosh darned firmware ahead of shipping! (And test it!).

Directions make it uncomplicated to get the drives mounted and to choose which selection you want JBOD or RAID. tight fitting screws preserve the drives in place. Even although it has a fan in the back the drives will get hot but not so much that I have any complaints, works every time. None, excellent product for what I needed it for.

Seems to perform fine in Big for up to 2TB and will try the promise that it will permit writing to fill 2x2TB drives in JBOD. Fairly effortless to develop Huge drive in Windows 7 or Vista, but see con beneath if you are purchasing this for the Major mode. As Rosewill consumer service explained (who had been really quick to call back - so thanks guys) the Massive mode maximum is 2TB so no benefit with Large mode for 2x1.5TB or 2x2TB drives (even if you partition to much less than 2TB). I purchased this hoping to have Big mode more than 3 GB for the WDTV live. It won't see two JBOD drives via USB (only 1), but can see the two drives in Huge mode. As this is limited to 2TB max, no benefit from a typical 2TB enclosure.

The enclosure is nicely created I have bought 4 of them the oldest has two 1TB drives 1 samsung and the other a WD green drive. I share it over my network and watch movies from it more than the network. It continues to work flawlessly. I have two others which I purchased a lot more recently and each have two 2TB drives samsung and wd green. I had no troubles formatting them on my xp machines. They too run flawlessly I have win7 machines but chose to use the XP machines simply because of the complaints I read From customers making use of win7. Right after setting it up on the xp machine I moved one of them to the win7 machine and I am but to see any troubles. I briefly attempted a seagate 2Tb drive but I lost all of the information on that drive right after two days.I known as newegg and they took the drive back and gave me my funds back which I used to obtain a different samsung. Some clients reported issues detecting the 2tb Samsung I knowledgeable no such problem with the 4 I bought. None it functions the way you would expect. I would advise this enclosure. I have transferred files onto it for periods of over six hours and the temperature remained cool.I leave the fan on whenever it is running

When the firmware was updated, it functions fine, and the fan to preserve it from overheating is a nice touch. When I very first got it, for no apparent reason, everything would go pear-shaped, with an accompanying funny noise, immediately after 37 minutes of active use. If I was watching video, it would freeze, and I would be able to play any of it prior to the freeze point but absolutely nothing right after. All files would show as read-only. Energy cycling it got it back to normal, but 37 minutes later like clockwork it would take place once again. My partner (who works in IT) finally figured out that it was a buffer overflow and managed to update the firmware, which fixed it, but it was an enormous discomfort.

Purchased this enclosure in April...it does exactly what it says it does. I've had two 1 TB drives running in the enclosure and I can either utilize them as one major drive or 2 separate drives. Worked great up until now....the controller card has died on it and it will not remain powered on with the drives installed. I have began the RMA by way of Rosewill and I am a bit disappointed in the method. Rosewill contacted Newegg and set up the RMA through newegg. Now I have paid an further 15 dollars to ship the faulty enclosure back to Newegg so that they can repair/replace a good item that happened to only last 6-7 months. Granted it beats purchasing a new enclosure but it make me leary of getting an additional rosewill product in fear of having to go by way of this approach once more and pay more for a product that I expect to last.

Effortless to open and install drives. I bought it 14 months ago and put in two Western Digital 1.0TB Green drives. Most of the time I left it powered off. With no warning it failed to operate. The energy light comes on but the Computer does not see the drives. I thought by leaving it powered off most of the time the unit would have an extended life, but now I have to purchase a replacement enclosure. A 1-year extended warranty would have completed me no excellent considering that it failed after 14 months. Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,Thank you extremely significantly for obtain the R2-JBOD. The challenge may be due to the USB cable failing. the drive case came properly packaged. Installing the two Internal drives was a breeze. You get rid of 4 screws, slide the internal case out, slide the drives in, screw the mounting screws to the drives and slide the internal case back in. No wires, no muss no fuss. looks nice, and seems quiet, at least compared to other stuff. the only con I had was immediately after I installed the drives and slid the internal mounting case holding the drives in, the four screws did not seem to align with the external portion of the case this could be mainly because soon after tightening the drives to the internal mounting bracket it twisted it slightly. Or collapsed it knocking the alignment off. I installed two Seagate two TB drives and the worst portion of it is the formatting of the drives. It takes a incredibly lengthy time. it could be associated to the speed of the USB port, but far more than most likely it's because it's a two TB drive.

Incredibly uncomplicated to assemble. Solid construction. Runs cool and quiet. Comes with a stand and all the cables you need. Fan has a separate on/off switch. Also comes with mounting screws for your challenging drives, in case you don't have them already. Works with Windows and OSX suitable away. No Firewire ports. USB 2 only; No USB 3. Demands an external power source to operate; can't run off USB power only. I had two drives that needed an enclosure, and this was precisely what I required. Assembly was fast and simple, and both drives had been recognized by Windows 7 and Mac OSX 10.five without any extra software program. Don't be intimidated by the sparse instruction manual. If you can use a screwdriver, you can put this enclosure together.

most every little thingstraightforward to set up, easier to useand its self coolingamesome package poorly writen documentation (but the only factor u truly will need to see is the portion about the small switch to enable linking the drives as 1 volume any way)not usb three? or eSATA? I've been a die challenging fan of a diferent brand for HDD enclosures for a lengthy whilst nowfor the price, this is the best HDD case i ever owned so far. quickly recognized two 750 WD HDDs with distinct file systems, utilized that to copy over all my files to a different drive, and then simply set up for single volumegood choice if your a mediaphile (like me)no complaints what so ever and as allways new egg rocks

Bought one, utilised it, bought an additional. No failures, ever. Run them strictly as dual drives, not Big mode. They've kept my drives 񢻐 rpm) running flawlessly for over a year now. They appear terrific, specifically matching next to every other. I'll absolutely buy once again. I don't realize why they haven't added FW-800 or something of the like. I know there's a RAID version with an E-SATA connection, but that's not available anymore. USB isn't my initial choice. Power and fan access in the back isn't that awesome, either. I have had one of these enclosures for more than a year, and just purchased a second. My initially one houses 2x1TB Western Digital Green Caviars, and the new one has 2x2TB Western Digital Caviars. I extremely recommend the enclosure if all you need to have is either back up or media playback. Running slower drives is an absolute must, even so, due to the fact the ventilation is nowhere near what it ought to be for two 7200RPM drives.I use the drives in these for my digital movie library... 1,000 1080p멨p movies. Among the drives and their enclosures, I'm a very pleased camper.

It does what it should do. I have tried employing their update but I can not make it function with my 2TB drives. I'm using SAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB. The update is quite easy though has three distinct possibilities, lack of instructions does not help. I bought this to use with my 2TB drives, hence I am giving it a 2 stars.

Wonderful price (on sale), easy to use and setup, very good build top quality and compact. esata version is way far more costly This is the finest hdd enclosure I have discovered at any cost, holds 2 hdd compactly and created of nice aluminum. Note- back 4 thread hole are open-so finger tight MAX and I necessary to drill a bunch added holes in front cover to maintain them cool in my Warm room, otherwise you can take the front cover off.

- Compact Style- Solid / Sturdy Case- Quiet- Effortless Install / Set-up - None at the moment! I purchased this enclosure so I could get some use out of 2 internal hard drives I had laying around the house. The unit arrived inside two days of my order. The tough drives had been effortless to install and the whole set-up has worked great considering that that time. I now have over a terabyte of additional space to shop movies, music and pictures.

Dropped in my two 640 gig drives that I planned to use as backup drives on my new iMac and they worked wonderful. No fuss. Although I did have have to reformat. I assume it was mainly because the drives previously had been dynamic disks or due to the controller change? Either way it was expected to require to do this and I was already prepared so no large deal. Over all there are no cons to the device IMO. I noted no heat difficulties myself. And the noise was not bad from the fan and drives, completely bearable. On the other hand I am in the midst of a RMA as the internal energy has failed. The external 12v adapter is lit and it's voltage very good. Both drives still come up fine on a Bytecc BT-300 controller. When hooked up though in the this Rosewill unit it merely won't turn on. No fan, no light, no spinning drives. I only had it up and running ྸǝ) for about three days. :( Also because it expense me a different ป to RMA the stupid thing the บ I saved with on sale went out the window. Realizing 1 failure already occurred is going to make me vary leery working with this as a backup device. I'll most likely continue to maintain my photos and house videos elsewhere as effectively until it regains my trust.A bummer considering I have a number of Rosewill merchandise and only 1 device ever failed me and it was nearly two years after I bought it. I positive hope this isn't a sign of Rosewill going the inexpensive route just to make a buck. There are Plenty of other businesses whom could earn our monies if this is the case.
