Rosewill R2-JBOD DUAL-BAY External Enclosure
Comment:
Its fairly fast, functions with a wide variety of discs and there's a flash rom update Rosewill Assistance internet site for it so that it can help new and future discs. In Big mode, you can recycle two insufficient size tricky drive into one larger challenging drive, and that functions properly. Place the faster drive as ş. In JBOD mode, the enclosure will have two tough drive letters and functions specifically like you had two separate tricky drive enclosures. Nevertheless, if you initially installed a single tough drive in bay 1, you can later install yet another difficult drive and flip the Massive switch. I utilized mine with the "Big" switch turned off, which means that its set on that "JBOD" setting, which is the "ordinary" setting. With a single drive, the enclosure is extraordinarily fast!!! It pushes the USB specs on speed. HOT AIR GOES UP!!! The exhaust fan is at the bottom of the enclosure. Yes, the metal portion of the rear panel (which holds the exhaust fan) is upside down. To avoid overheating, only set the entire enclosure upside down so that hot air can be removed from the leading of the unit. duh!!! The fan has an off switch rather of operating a simple timer circuit from the drive activity LED or a thermal resistor or even a simple bimetallic strip. So, the fan stays on all the time. This isn't really as stupid as the rear panel upside down, but its close. Yet another missed opportunity with the fan is that considering that the cables hang out an inch, there was plenty of area to set up a good huge healthy 60mm fan externally and run that at a slow quiet speed. Yes, right after the cables are plugged in, there's adequate extra space on back. Rather we have a nonstop miniature exhaust fan that removes air from only the bottom of the enclosure. Please somebody tell them that hot air goes up!! Fortunately, this enclosure comes with an accessory foot, so setting the enclosure upside down is stable and very easily puts the exhaust fan near the Prime so that hot air is expelled. Its a quite quick hard drive enclosure and I do like it.

Compact, sophisticated, straightforward and quiet fan operation. had the enclosure loaded with two Segate 1.5T discs and formatting in just a few minutes, no complications at all. I'm content with the new backup program. Discs spin down when not in use, but enclosure fan does not. It continues to run. When discs spin down, my pc (mac leopard) offers a warning that the disc was improperly removed so you have to turn the drive off-then-on once again to get the pc to identify the drive. Not confident that is an enclosure problem or not.

Simple to install HDs, plus I like the options of how to run the pair of drives. I am operating 1 TB Black WD None This is a good way to keep points backed up. I like this setup considerably much better then obtaining a unit with a drive already installed as this setup provides the alternative of option the brand and kind of drive you want to use.

Fans keep drives coolTop quality construction Doesn't work as nicely as it utilized to, read my story beneath I have had this enclosure for a tiny over a year now. It worked effectively for the most portion, but now soon after many hours of being mounted to my iMac, the drives become un-writable. The data can be read, but nothing at all can be designed, changed, or deleted. I have to force dismount the drives and remount them in disk utility. This makes my Time Machine backups a discomfort, as they fail if my laptop or computer stays on overnight, or longer than a handful of hours at a time.

Nice external style. Works with 1.5TB genuinely well. Quick for a USB 2.. The fan. That is what killed the eggs rating!ŋ. It is way also tiny for cooling 7200 RPM drives. I'd be scared to put 10,000's in there.2. Fans on process power supplies blow IN the push air over components. Why does this one blow in? It is baffled by the circuit board so it puts litlle air across the drives straight. OR, did they place mine in backwards??The fan began out quiet, then went to a "gravely" sound soon after 20 minutes.3. The front of the situation has an internal sheet metal piece to hold the LEDs. Other than that it has no true stability in this rugged aluminum situation. So why so considerably baffle? After that the air passes by means of (??) some really little holes in the front of the case. I cannot feel (or see with smoke in front of it) ANY air coming out. 4. A single side of the drive mounting bracket is complete sheet metal. The drive mounts with the circuit board side WAY Also CLOSE to the metal for my liking. Just poor design and style. I have it as a second USB backup on a Netgear NAS for now. Essentially testing stability.Delivering it doesn't fail and doesn't burn up the single 1.5TB WD in there now, I will probably mod the case immediately after the return period expires.I am thinking aboutɅ. Reverse the fan to draw air out like a program fan.2. Drill out all the situation-front little slots to let air flow.3. If the case gets warm (means the drive is hot), drilling holes in the side and mounting an external fan.I hope I don't have to go this far.Due to the fact Rosewill makes single enclosures with larger fans, what is the concern right here? Fans are cheap. How about a ROM fix for Major? My guess is the ROM is not re-writeable. Too poor.

This drive does what it is advertised to do. Its effortless to slide the internal drives into the enclosure and fasten them in spot. It boots straightforward with no further steps necessary. Low-cost and functions excellent. When you hit the power switch to turn it off it sounds like the drives aren't parking incredibly well but this could just be normal. As lengthy as the drives aren't damaged it's fine. If you've got some old drives laying about in an otherwise junk personal computer this is what you want.

Fantastic design. Have bought two of these and have two 1TB Hitachi's per unit. I have one connected to a Seagate Theater+ media player. Unit plugs and plays to WinXP and Win7 with out hiccups. Cooling could be improved. Desires a lot more pass-via or larger fan. Not a lot more than slightly warm soon after 48 hrs straight run even though. Fan on/off switch is a stone no-no! Leave the fan ON!

smaller, separate power switch, fan switch, two bays, lights. Good price tag. none but Bought this mainly because my factory HD died. Had it replaced beneath warranty but Dell wanted to charge me 赉.00 to retrieve information off old HD. Installed my broken HD into the rosewill along with a new WD 500 gb Hd ( 54.00 from NewEgg) for back up to my new replaced HD. I am in a position to access Almost everything off of broken HD due to the fact of this enclosure. ำ.00 vs 赉.00. What a savings! Thank you Rosewill and NewEgg

I like possessing the alternative of two drives or making use of them as one big partition. It was easy to set up and feels incredibly strong. None however I haven't left it on for more than 8 hours at a time, but I don't feel it will get any hotter than it has. The cooling isn't the greatest, but if you're not regularly accessing information it's fine.

None if they don't function. I bought two of these enclosures and placed identical Western Digital 1.five TB Caviar black drives inside with enclosures set to jbod mode. After a couple of hours (I'm operating ten.six.four on my mac) I get a message "error code -50" upon trying to copy a file to either of the drives inside the enclosure. I then right after to either restart the laptop or computer or force eject the drives and restart the enclosure ahead of I can write files to the tough drives. I wrote Rosewill buyer service and they stated they are testing for the matter --- that was over a week ago. I finally took one particular of the drives out of the enclosure and put it in a docking station --- it's been running for a week with no challenge copying files to it. Rosewill and Newegg seriously ought to test this stuff prior to they sell it. Appropriate now I've got two ฽ paper weights when the notion was to have a fantastic way to back up big video files. These Rosewill R2-JBOD Aluminum three.5" USB two. DUAL-BAY External Enclosures certainly don't perform well with Western Digital Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s three.5 drives and in the time that Rosewill stalled me now I can't return them for an RMA simply because I'm just outside 30 days. I'm fairly ticked correct now and if this situation isn't resolved will never store with Newegg or obtain another Rosewill product.

Worked fantastic for about 3 months. Then the external energy supply failed. And Rosewill Consumer Service sucks major time. They hold doing nothing but lip service. I was told over a week ago that I need to be receiving a replacement. Nevertheless not right here. Following 3 emails and two calls to Rosewill client service, I nonetheless do not have a new energy supply. I wrote an additional e mail to them right now asking why this warranty issue is taking so extended. Going on three weeks of it becoming down. Looks like I am going to have to purchase a universal one myself since they refuse to stand behind their product. I have two other that have worked flawlessly for longer than this last one particular that failed. Switching about the energy supplies is getting Quite OLD. The absolute lack of assistance from Rosewill is totally appalling. In two plus weeks of attempting to get a replacement I feel that I am no closer to obtaining one. I have bought my final Rosewill product. I refuse to acquire yet another immediately after being treated the way I have over this straightforward thing.

Seemingly great construction. Feels solid. Holds two three.5" hard drives Overheats like an oven. Keeps drives consistently spinning even when not connected to a pc. Worked for about three months prior to I began acquiring I/O errors to exactly where I can even use it anymore. I know its the not the difficult drives failing because not only did I try a NEW set of difficult drives in there but I checked these drives each just before and after in a second enclosure. Not to mention the highest transfer rate I could get roughly 20mbps... pathetic. Appear elsewhere for a superior enclosure. Stay away from Rosewill.

I place two 2TB sata drives in a handful of these guys and run them off my HTPC. They're on 24ǝ and have been operating smoothly for over a year. I use them to stream blu ray motion pictures stored on the hdds. No heat or power concerns. Sturdy frame as well, and sleek style. Very best external enclosure readily available IMO. Supposedly can't use a larger capacity than 2TB drives. Haven't tried it as there are no great ɮTB drives on the market.

Good seeking and nicely made. Offers you a option of modes, and is uncomplicated to install the drives. My WHS recognized it suitable away and was simple to configure for extra storage, Quiet even with the fan on. Fan keeps the drive cool. None so far This is my 2nd unit with the 1st a single still operating perfectly immediately after months of getting on 24ǝ. Using both as storage arrays for my WHS considering that all my case space was utilized up. Purchased each on sale but even at list they are a more affordable resolution than most 4 bay enclosures and don't take up significantly far more space. You do lose a USB port using two of these rather than one particular fourǛ bay but I still have lots left on the server so not a big deal to me.

Effortless setup with two Samsung 1TB drives. Windows picked each up promptly; no problems whatsoever. The fan is truly quiet (pretty a lot silent), but appears to maintain the drives plenty cool; I have never ever felt the enclosure become noticeably warm. The unit appears to be extremely solidly built...absolutely nothing low cost about the way it looks or feels.I have utilised the unit for the final 6 months with no reason for complaint Larger footprint that a a single-bay enclosure -- about the size of a huge sandwich. Not truly an issue for me but it might be for some. One particular suggestion: it would be nice to be in a position to switch the drives on independently; often I only want to access 1 of them. Or not...the possibility of turning on the wrong one would be an unwelcome annoyance (and the additional switch would undoubtedly boost the price tag).

These have worked flawlessly; had them just over a month so far.I bought 3, and I have two 2TB drives in each. Working with them all on an intel Mac Mini operating MacOS ten.five.eight. No issues at all so far. (And I low-level formatted all six drives and have every about 1Ǚ complete, so they've seen some use.)Enclosures are pretty quiet, and they look nice. (Love the black, and the blue LEDs are good.)Separate blue LEDs on the front let you see which drive it is accessing.Drives drop appropriate in, plugging into the connectors, and then just use the included screws to secure the drives. Initial con is that the physical style needs a tiny additional tolerance. When I place the drives in and tried to place the case back together, if the screws holding the drives in are tightened all the way, it warps the case just sufficient so you can't slide it all the way back together. Took a bit of adjustment just before I got them back. And then the tiny screws in the back of the case didn't all go in totally smoothly (a little also much resistance), but they did still go in. This happened with two of the three circumstances I purchased. So that wants operate, but it wasn't adequate to take any eggs off their rating for me -- minor annoyance, but manageable.Second con is just that it's USB2, so that's a bottleneck. But that's just the USB2 spec, so I won't blame this item or corporation for that; I knew what I was acquiring. Will be looking for USB3. Or Firewire 800, but I doubt Rosewill will place any of those out because USB3 is out. This item is a great deal, though, till the newer stuff comes along.

Operates great with 2 2TB Hitachi drives as a low cost (跌) external storage. None discovered but Did not set this up in large mode considering that I needed it setup as 2 drives. I could not tell for sure but I got the impression that it could only manage 2TB partitions. If you need to have a single 4TB partition I would check very carefully ahead of ordering.
