I'm employing this card in a linux box without SATA assistance on the motherboard. I opted not to use the on-board raid attributes of the card and went with software program raid. It has worked perfectly so far. Only two SATA ports.

none for me. The ports on this device are NOT e-SATA. They are INTERNAL SATA facing out. That necessitated getting a special e-SATA to SATA cable, immediately after which I found out that due to some incompatability with this card's chipset and my external RAID, this card was useless anyway. Horribly created. Why not use actual eSata ports?

Delivers a technologies bridge for older Pc's with PCI expansion slots. Via chip signifies it has hope of operating. Very good transfer rates. Solution of buidling RAID in SATA or EIDE, can boot from either. External SATA port (ʁ.5Gbps) major plus for backup drive more than USB 2..I own a vintage Pent4 two.8GHz with XP. Who woudda believed this Computer would nevertheless be running, now with SSD boot drive, RAID0 bulk storage, and fast SATA external backup...woa! Lightning XP boot, quick applications, super quick upkeep backups, thanks to this board. If you have concerns...oh properly...better off Googling your way out of difficulty than calling the tech support.Unless you want to RMA the board, in which case, New_egg...er...Rose_will will help you get a rapid RMA back to exactly where it came from.Plugged differently-spec'ed drives to make a RAID0. That was not a superior notion of mine, and the array crashed right after 2 months in operation. Now working OK with two identical drives, so far so excellent. You'll need to have a three.five" floppy drive for the install. Learned this is kinda common for RAID cards, but was blown away hearing the arcaic 1999 floppy clicking and clacking nevertheless in 2009. I mean WTH? Floppy??My RAID0 became unuseable at random moment...tech support did flimsiest attempt at helping me recover. After receiving an RMA for the board, decided to Google for a solution. Setting to Cable Pick and operating chkdsk brought the RAID back.Board appears to operate properly. Decent RAID management SW, but no bells or whistles.

Affordable SATA controller Can't boot off of it. Windows 7 drivers cause kernel level BSOD each ten minutes or so. Also, even when it did perform, read/write speeds were slower than a single 7200RPM drive (I was utilizing 2 in RAID ). Don't get this to boot windows off of. In truth, I don't ever recommend it as a SATA controller due to the fact you BSOD

Does what it says it will do.Comes with all kinds of cables, adapters, software program, and so on. ƒ SATA data cables, 2 SATA power connector adapter cables, an IDE ribbon cable, drivers on CDROM and floppy.) Can present a learning curve on some machines. I spent many late-night hours trying to get this to work. (Had I only known that Rosewill's tech support was nonetheless open!) Although the IDE port was flawless, the sata ports seemed to work on and off. My poor. Deep in my machine's BIOS, it reveals it has a favorite PCI slot for RAID cards! (And it's not the last or the initially.) This important reality is not even in the manual.Changed the slot. SATA functions! I paired this with a WD Velociraptor, thinking I could not see a lot difference because the card is not SATA II. (I can't use SATA II; the controller card utilizes a PCI Express slot.)Boy, was I wrong! Almost everything loads so fast, that it appears like a brand-new machine.

Each and every cable you will require is included. Supposedly well supported chipset.Price is nice. Didn't function in two unique older motherboards. (E7205 and I865 based) But did perform in a newer nForce 4. I bought this to work with a WD 1TB drive that the on-board SATA (Sil 3112) would not recognize the size and couldn't boot past that. However, this card did not function. The worst component was, it *pretended* to perform, but when the drive was formatted there had been all kinds of errors when the drive was mounted. Flashed firmware and that appeared to support, but just created the errors appear later. Also, it hosed the filesystem on a 250GB drive that had been working fine for 4 years.I'm reasonable positive the errors had been because of the older motherboard, but it seems to me that it defeats the purpose considering that this will most likely be applied in older motherboards on account of it being SATA 150 and not 300. Also, nearly each motherboard in the last many years already has a (better) on board SATA.I see most are working with it to flash their xBox 360's DVD for the Through chipset. I would stick to that for this card and look elsewhere to add or supplement existing motherboard SATA capabilities. Works as advertised giving me two extra sata ports. Great for those uses exactly where you want that precise chipset. Not a con truly but I believed there could be a slim opportunity I would get 4 sata ports out of this card as there are two internal connections and two external. Unfortunately, you can only use 2 at a time and they are jumper selectable. Pretty a lot what I expected though. Egg Saver shipping really sucks. One factor I have always loved about Newegg is the speed and high quality of their shipping. It seems like now every little thing with totally free shipping is being routed via USPS instead of UPS and the turn around time is horrible. Now when I order factors that come from the Jersey warehouse they bounce around the east coast for a few days before they make any progress westward. I used to be able to get items in 3 days or much less. Now it is at least five. This new Egg "Saver" Shipping will cause me to acquire much less goods in the future.

For starters, Newegg.Works with Windows Server 2008 x64. No need to have to use the included drivers, Windows recognizes the right VIA controller. Had 1 for > 6 months, expanded nearby storage x2 SATA. Has had 2 Seagate 1.5TB drives on it, no troubles. Can use PATA, but I don't have anything that uses PATA anymore.Have not had to contact any level of support yet. Bought an additional to add Seagate 1.5TB and WD Green 2TB. Even with the WD's jumper set to SATA I compatibility, the HD Tune showed a max of 10MB/sec and min .8 MB/sec, really poor access speeds as nicely. WD diagnostic tool was operating incredibly slow, was going to take 180+ hours to total the full test, um, no thanks.Did testing, the drive is fine, the controller is fine, just not the two of them together.SATA I only, but for a file server, no dilemma and the specs state this, so no surprise. Not sure if it is the free version of HD Tune Computer software or what, but can\'t get S.M.A.R.T. information from any drive connected to these controllers. four Star for not talking good to the 2TB. If you figure out how, reply to my post, thanks.I am not using any of the RAID capabilities, just 2 SATA.Making use of as portion of a Windows Server 2008 R1 Hyper-V Server setup with Windows Residence Server as one of the guests. WHS does not have any concerns with the 1.5TB drives (pass through discs) when using this controller, need to discover out far more about the 2TB.Really should have just bought a far more recent pci-express SATA II controller for a couple of far more bucks, but I had great encounter with this 1 and wanted to stick with what I know. Could have to return it, but may not be worth the return shipping expense.Worth acquiring vs. purchasing a motherboard that will deal with 8+ SATA drives. My setup is primarily for backups, serving media, and using as a development atmosphere.Motherboard: ASUS A3A78-EMRAM: 8GBProcessor: AMD Phenom x4 9750 (not OC'd)OS: Windows Server 2008 x64 R1SATA Controllers: Rosewill RC-212 (x2)Hard Drives: adequate?

Shipment time and Cost. Worthless due to the fact it didn't work. Did not perform on neither a Pentium four Sony Vaio nor a P4 Dimension 3000. Worked automatically with Ubuntu Linux (versions 7.10 & 8.04) (no particular drivers essential to be loaded). Works with Winblows XP Home also. Affordable. Flexible mixture of internal or external SATA ports, plus a PATA (Parallel ATA) port also. None that I know of. Far more SATA ports would generally be nice. Employing it to add some SATA ports to my 7 year old, AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz ATA motherboard. Currently connecting just 1 SATA tough disk to it. Bought it in Fall 2007 and the very same portion number (RC-212) is available 20 months later (May 2009) -- it's very good the board hasn't turn out to be "obsolete" and discontinued.

Card did install itself via windows.Card recognized the two drives that I hooked up through it. I'm normally not this crucial, but this card is developed to look like it will do far far more than it will. Very first off, what is up with having to set jumpers. You can have two of 4 ports. I needed access to two ext & 1 int. The book that came with it mentioned I could adjust the jumpers to allow all four ports to work. I don't feel that meant simultaneously, but it actually doesn't matter because when you do this the card stops working all together. I set the jumpers back to two ports and it recognizes a drive once again. Having regular sata ports on a external connection is silly. E-sata is standard for a external connection, just much more cables to acquire. Also, you can't boot from this card, which genuinely limits functionality for me. All in all, I was quite disappointed with this item. You can get Via6421 cards for half the price of this one, with a lot more functionality. Good SATA expansion / SATA adapter for older systems with out SATA connections. My friend borrowed it to mess around with his xbox 360 due to the fact it has a Through chipset. HP Desktop did not recognize my Seagate 1 TB (terabyte) drive, which was my original intentions of use. Perhaps it's the motherboard, possibly it's the drive. Did not test it with any other systems or terabyte drives. Haven't tried the RAID function but. Windows XP didn't auto recognize for me. I had to use the CD. RAID configuration software program included in the CD is not needed. You can do all of it's functions at the boot menu.

None, anymore... Dead immediately after less than a year. I wrote a evaluation previously relating to this card's issues about 25 critiques further down the line here with the exact same name. Rosewill supplied a link to drivers in reply (I'd already been to their site to get the drivers) and I appreciate that they took the time to respond at all, but it never fixed the problems I had with the board then, nor does it support that the board is now dead. Most unfortunate. Unless they've fixed the problems with the item, I still can't suggest working with this board with IDE CD drives. Low-cost and does work with IDE drives in non-RAID mode (what I have tried and want). Does NOT work with two SATA drives I have tried. Awful instructions. I hope their tech support is better than their written directions. In any case, it basically does not work as an internal SATA interface with noth drivers that came with card and newer drivers off the Rosewill web web page. As stated previously External ports serve no practical purpose I was hoping that I could attach an external SATA disk enclosure which has an eSATA interface on it (specifically the Rosewill Rx-258 enclosure) to 1 of the RC-212's external ports making use of an eSATA-to-SATA cable. Right after configuring the jumpers on the RC-212 to enable 1 of the external ports, I attached the RX-358 to the RC-212 even so the performance was horrible (not even usable) and unstable. I ended up removing the drive from the RX-358 enclosure and mouting it internally and attaching it to one of the internal ports on the RC-212 and it's working properly. What is the practical purpose of those external ports on the RC-212 if you can't use them to attach an eSATA compatible external enclosure?
