Very good replacement for stock fan, somewhat affordable (very affordable when on sale). Cooling is adaquate. If you need to have a affordable socket 478 fan & noise isn't a concern, this is the 1. Noisier than I'd like. Suggest mounting HSF just before securing MB to case. Not precisely quite but if you have a socket 478 program you really should in all probability hide it anyway. No egg deduction for looks but one deducted for noise & 1 for mount. In all probability merits a three.five overall. Built an Ubuntu server out of some old Dell parts, necessary this to replace the proprietary HSF. It operates. Server is on 24ǝ so we'll see how lengthy it lasts. Fan noise would be a important issue if the server wasn't in a remote area of the home.

Nice looking copper base and big red fan! Doesn't fit our early model P4 1.7GHz - but see comments beneath. Did not know that some quite early Pentium four chips have a smaller mounting bracket compared to most P4's. When this nice Rosewill heatsink/fan arrived we swiftly found it is too big to fit! Newegg Customer Service offered us a refund in spite of our ignorance when ordering this item! We have often enjoyed fantastic service from Newegg. That's why we keep shopping here.

??? intel thermal monitor appliance warns of CPU freezing???went from constant annoying intel thermal alarms which had to be ignored to in no way over 120F in my celeron three.2ghz.came with thermal paste, not that chinese gunk i purchased 10 years ago that i would have employed otherwise. another pro: good searching :)fit proper in with my old ULTRA case and the wind tunnel goes right to it. wonderfully content, will see how long fan lasts from a ten dollar product. afterall, ive had 3 fans die on me so far in my machine (this is my first rosewill) sooo well see i guess.

I've gotten the rep of becoming the goto guy for fixing and extending the life of old 478 and 939 machines. Folks bring their broken stuff to my comp shop all the time and I use this cooler and an assortment of salvaged P4 chips and the Biostar P4M900M4 board sold here on Newegg. I also have fairly a collection of DDR ram. Anyway when I need to replace the cooler I use this and it works and it's quiet and it even works on machines that I OC. Can't think of any except perhaps free shipping would be nice. I don't recognize the reviewers that are saying that this is noisy. It's not and it's not built cheaply. Correct, it's an economy cooler but it works like a premium one. At least the 15 or 16 I've used so far have. Thanks Rosewill/Newegg.

Quiet, copper plate and fits nicely. Clamps are a little tricky to install due to the significant fan obstruction on the side. Redesign the clamps or at least contemplate it on futurre styles.

Less noise, lower RPM, and keeps my CPU as cool as a a lot more pricey (much noisier) unit that has a copper heat sink. None. A little tall. Be sure to measure regardless of whether it will fit.

arguably the best socket 478 heatsink. really quiet, moves lots of air. allowed me to OC both my 3.4ghz prescott SL8K4 and my 3.4ghz gellatin SL7CH to 3.8ghz lack of directions may well be confusing for some can't say how excellent the included thermal grease is mainly because I removed it and utilised Arctic Silver five

No, I didn't feel you did! This factor is quiet! I got it for a replacement on an older method and wow, didnt understand how loud the old one was. And I loved the easy install clips. None, definitely. Cable Routing. Wish it had some built in clips for the cable around the frame.

Cooled my old P4 3. with a stock cooler from 65c idle / 80+ load to about 42c idle / 55c load. Also significantly quieter than the stock Intel cooler. I noticed that the old cooler had a blanket of dust on top of the heat sink, so I am going to give the stock cooler a bit of credit, but this thing nonetheless performs far better and quieter. Demands tons of force to attach to the motherboard - I truly like the clips contrary to what other people have said.

Great cost for what you get. Shipping was excellent as generally with Newegg. They never fail on great shipping! Fan is extremely extremely LOUD! I have this installed in my laptop or computer room and I can hear it roaring all the way thru the home. It's advertised as quiet and it is not. This was a good come across for me. I have a Dell GX270 that I replaced the stock heatsink that when it would get hot it would get truly loud so I was seeking for some thing that would be quiet. I got it all installed right after ordering a bracket to replace the stock one. I was shocked at how loud it was. I can hear the fan all thru the residence. I replaced the fan with a quiet 1 and now everything works excellent. If youre searching for quiet be confident and get one more fan to go on this heat sink.

I bought this item simply because the stock cooler on my P4 two.8GHz processor was the loudest thing in my personal computer room save for a massive Supermicro server. The Rosewill RCX-Z200 has absolutely quited things down a lot. It does not maintain the CPU as cool as the stock cooler, but it's only a few degrees so I don't mind. Simple to install. Also fits fairly tight quarters inside an Inwin ATX desktop case with a Supermicro P4SCT+II motherboard that locations the CPU near the drives and power supply. Non so far. Hopefully the bearing(s) won't commence complaining for numerous years.

This is definitely quiet, but design is poor.Don't dismiss this as the one poor evaluation. Not numerous men and women would take the time to experiment with a item the way I have done here for everyone to discover from my mistake. Poor design. I lately a acquired a SL793 processor Ɠ.4 northwood core) for my old P4p800 motherboard.Up until this point had utilised stock heatsink/fan with a 3. northwood for 6 years with zero heat concerns. avg loaded temp 37-41C max, utilizing intel included thermal paste. OC'd to three.31Why this Product is not good. This has a flat copper plate, attached to the flat backside of a single piece of aluminum molded into only 23 fins, if you count the bracket edge where fan screws mount. Huge amount of solid material for the heat to get trapped in prior to it can get out to the thin fins exactly where it can be dissapated. Also the surface region of the copper piece, is so large compared to the size of a 478 processor. Getting that it is mounted flat to the adjacent aluminum fin piece, the heat travels outward laterally from the procesor far more quickly than it does tranfer across the boundary into the aluminum, therefore trapping a lot more heat near your processor. Consider this. Tested both this and my stock cooler tonight.Prime95 for only about 8 minutes, with this cooler and A-silver 5, CPU reached 58 deg and froze. Idle temps for half hour ahead of that hovered aroud 38-42 degrees.Promptly, without even letting my cpu cool, I switched back to the stock cooler with a fresh application of silver five, and ran tests again. Prime95 produced only 39-41C temps immediately after 8 minutes and stayed there up by means of a half hour, and swiftly dropped inside five minutes of stopping test to a chilly...below my room temp... 25C on stock cooler. Bear in mind this 3.4ghz processor is overclocked to three.77 for both tests.Only thing changed was the CPU heatsink/fan setup. This product is poorly developed. The stock intel heatsink utilizes a style exactly where all 40 fins (which are nice and thin) are fused into the copper base. picture a bunch of individual boards sitting vertically in individual grooves tight enough to hold them in location. Works and is inexpensive. Fast straightforward install. No-hassle compatibility. Moves a lot of air to maintain CPU nice and cool , if you aren't expecting it to be quiet as advertised. LOUD, LOUD, LOUD......This item is ridiculous. It is advertised as quiet and the box has "Hyper-Silence" and "Low Noise" plastered all more than it. At full speed it is louder than my OLD worn out stock P4 fan.It is just TOLERABLE only when I slow down with speed with speedfan to around 75%. Any lower and the cpu gets warmer. This is fine, and will suffice. But it is just yet another thing to have to mess with, when it is advertised to be so silent to begin with, but isn't.It is becoming employed on an HTPC in my living room and the intention getting it was for the low noise it was advertised at. Basically not the case.

This factor is heavy and properly built. Nothing was loose or skuffed. The bottom of the heatsink is made of a totally copper plate which helps in heat transfer. The second you energy it on you can just feel the energy behind it. Too poor it didnt fit ;( see below. I have a dell 8300 DEM old pooper of a P4 478 rig. When I upgraded to a 3. gig prescot w/ 1mb L2 I also bought one of these. My dell/intel MOBO has a plastic fitting arround the cpu where the heatsink is saposed to clip in. This heatsinks base is to thick to fit in. I tried and attempted but the bracket is 3 mm too brief to fit the lower heatsink bracet fitting. I would just mount over but its like a four piece plastic rector-set like mobo clip over top and I don't want to put any stress on it or it will warp/break. So I had to call newegg and attempted a RMA. This is where I was plesently suprised. I called and within 1 minute of dialing I was on the telephone with a rep. I told them my challenge and this was there answer... "Sorry for the inconvienence we will be pleased to refund you the full cost to you and have a good day :)." I didnt even have to mail the factor back. Hassle no cost and I adore it. So...Final thoughts. Keep in mind that if your motherboard has a clip set around the cpu built into the motherboard, make shure you have clearence simply because this heatsink's bottom fitting is kinda thicker than expected. I would say you could just grind it down but its made of high top quality metal and would be challenging barring taking it to a machine shop.

-Inexpensive!-Excellent fan for outdated socket 478 processors.-Lowered the CPU temperature from 86 C to 69 C.-Looks pretty cool-Thermal paste pre-applied-Copper base-Quiet -A discomfort in the neck to install-A nightmare to install-Quite hard to install-Did I mention it was tough to install? This factor is quite frustrating to install. The metal clamps that come with it make for a grueling install. There are two clamps that maintain the fan/heatsink in location that come with this factor, the very first one goes on A-OK. The second clamp refuses to snap in to the motherboard. In order to snap it in, 1 must apply pressure and strength that is basically unhealthy for any motherboard to withstand. I wasn't able to install the second clamp for fear of breaking the mainboard. It stays in location just uncover with 1 clamp.

This is a good fan. It is fairly quiet, a great deal quieter than the Foxcom that came with the CPU. If you have a case that is clear or with a clear side panel with LED lights, the red blades look fairly cool under LED or Cathode lights. the metal clips that come with it were a little troublesome, I ended up employing the former plastic clips that came with the old fan. I had been wanting a quiter more effient fan but by no means was bothered to purchase 1 until my Foxcom broke. But, I recomend it. The Foxom was okay with noise until I went from a 2.four Ghz to a three. gzhz and it spun faster to cool it; the old fan was not rated to cool down that speed of CPU but the Rosewill fan here handles up to 3.4 Ghz CPUs.
