Rosewill RNX-56USB V.92/56K USB Hardware Based Data/Fax/TAM Modem
Comment:
Inexpensive. USB. probably operates for faxing and World wide web dialup flawed design. Cannot do V22 correctly. Will not operate 7E1 nor will it negotiate appropriately with paging terminals (TAP). If you want a low cost USB modem for faxing or Online dialup, dialup backup, this may well operate because it seemingly has favorable evaluations when evaluated for that goal. For use with paging terminals (TAP) such as Verizon the Rosewill RNX-56USB is useless. No combination of init strings will fix the reality that this modem won't operate correctly at < 14,400 bps carrying out 7E1 data communications at 2400 or 1200 baud with paging terminals. If making use of Qpage with Nagios do yourself a favor; commit a bit more $ and get a USR 5637 56K USB Faxmodem. Use init string of AT&FS13ɩS19ɤ and have fun injecting Nagios alert messages into TAP terminals for server monitoring. The USR 5637 was substituted for the RNX-56USB and the TAP injection (via Qpage) worked completely with inside ten minutes with the USR 5637 modem (which is a superior item).

Uncomplicated setup, though I had to get Windows 7 driver from Rosewill web page (it was not on disk provided, but identified it right away upon searching). After driver was loaded, modem recognized/worked quickly on connection - sent and received test faxes using Snappy Fax. Very pleased all round, and there's totally no reason I wouldn't propose this item wholeheartedly. None with the actual product... only that Rosewill must direct you exactly where Windows 7 driver can be downloaded. Had it functioning in about 5 minutes with my HP Windows 7 laptop.

Compatible with Linux's USB modem (CDC ACM) support (shows up as /dev/ttyACM0). Design doesn't block other USB ports. Physically lightweight. No built-in speaker. As a outcome, dialing-up is silent (i.e., you can't hear the dial-tone, the dialing, the handshake, or any spoken error messages). This tends to make diagnosing dial-up problems or poor efficiency significantly more problematic. Note that I've only attempted the modem on Linux for dialing-up to 1 of my ISPs. I haven't attempted the caller ID, fax, or answering-machine characteristics yet. This modem uses the Connexant CX93010 and CX20548 chips; their datasheet and manuals can be found on the Connexant web-site (Google: CX93010 CX20548). For advanced users, these documents are much extra informative than the user manual in the CD. USB vendor and solution ID: 0572򍻉.

This device is a real modem, and "just functions." No particular softmodem driver or other nonsense is expected. Current linux kernel versions detect it as a USB CDC ACM device, and present a generic serial interface you can use with a terminal application, getty, hylafax, or a PPP dialer. Gnome PPP and wvdial detect and configure this modem automatically. It is appropriate for applications where you may possibly otherwise need to have to hook up a USB to serial adapter and then an external modem, and offered for a fraction of the cost and size. I have deducted one particular star since in my restricted testing, I was unable to effectively get Caller ID working. The AT commands are present, but the modem in no way returns a name or number.

Simple to install unlike the very first modem I bought from Finest Buy that demanded I reboot my Pc twice. Also this a single was correct plug and play didn't have to use the install disk that came with it because I am working with windows 7. One last factor I liked was the shipping box it is nicely packed and can be kept for storage. Not actually a con but ร.99 was a excellent cost just wish the shipping was no cost though. Jury is nevertheless out on life of the modem first day went smoothly. At least it didn't cease operating soon after two hours like the zoom 1 did from greatest buy. Although quite a few have hated on Ideal Obtain I won't do that given that they refunded my funds with out any inquiries. Nevertheless waiting on my HDMI cable to come in so I can write a critique for my DVI-D adapter.

Performs rapidly, simply and seamlessly. Plugged it in and it began working appropriate away. It's low-cost, and even my grandmother who knows nearly nothing about computers could install it so great product for the cash. Did anything it promised Seems to be susceptible to shorting out after a excellent thunderstorm. Not enough to make me take it down a star although. I bought 1 before so I had drivers installed already. Had to obtain a different one particular cuz I had an storm with a excellent bit of lightning and this shorted out.

It may well work okay for dial-up connecting to the Internet or faxing, but not as a TAM. Caller ID would not function regardless of operating method--Windows 7 Ultimate or XP, and not just with the included computer software--it would not work with the other six answering machine programs I tried... I can\'t comprehend why Caller ID performs on all my phones without having a hassle but the Caller ID refuses to function on this modem?

None The design is affordable. Out of the box the modem didn't perform correct. Soon after finding it installed it cut my download speed in half to 26.five Kb. I tried it in a HP computer that was 5 days old, so it's not the pc. I even tried it an additional laptop or computer that was obtaining 45.two Kb, and then when I attempted this modem it cut it in half again. This modem is flawed when it causes me to get perform download speed than a ten year old Pci modem. Don't obtain this item, If you have a Pci-E slot try to get a Pci-E modem. I began the RMA process, which cost me ű to ship back for a refund. There are superior merchandise out there don't buy this 1.

Worked as advertised....for me - a fax modem! none noted so far If an active phone line is not plugged into the modem it is only acknowledged as an un-recognized device on the USB tree. Prompts are made to install a driver by the system...even even though the drivers are there. That continues until an active telephone line is plugged into it, upon which it is recognized.Didn't notice that instruction anywhere in the manual

Windows 7 and puppy linux each recognize it just fine. It will dial. It will pull up a site. I reside in a rural place, exactly where the phone lines are not that fantastic a top quality. This modem can\'t take care of that. The ISA modem on my old Pc gets 24kbaud; this USB modem gets about 9600 baud to 12kbaud, and disconnects inside a minute or 2. It just doesn't have the noise immunity and/or signal strength that the old modems had. For rural clients like me, this modem is unusable. Would most likely operate just fine for anybody living in a city, or closer the the phone company.
