- works excellent- very smaller- lots of feedback (lights & sound) - none nevertheless I paid about half for this more than the U*S*R usb modem and it sure operates a complete lot better. You essentially get to hear the modem dialing and connect and also the "data" light on the modem lets you know it is transferring data -- items that my twice as high-priced usr can not do (and took forever to connect).Getting half the size of the other modem is a bonus as well for traveling.YES I am incredibly pleased with this modem.

None Blue screens each and every time I restart/shutdown Vista64. Tech help was no help and told me to speak to the chip manufacturer Conexant. The driver date is 2005! Conexant did not have a newer driver. Extremely disappointing. Not recommended unless you like blue screens. Cheap, small, operates fine for information. Not usable as an answering machine for me. Recorded messages are really faint, lost in background noise. Tried with two phone lines and two computers (XP 64 and Vista 32). Identical on all. Utilized most up-to-date drivers from internet site. Got this on sale for occasional fax and dialup use. Worth it for that alone, but disappointing that the TAM function is useless.

Incredibly simple to installWorks as it really shouldGood connection speeds None I ordered this for my mom. She has an older Dell Otiplex with a smaller form factor, so I couldn't use an internal modem. I gave it to her when it came in and she had no difficulty installing and setting it up and it's working flawlessly. Absolutely not a con, but I was truly surprised how smaller this point is!

Works properly for me with some limitations, tho I may just want to come across some superior drivers. I got this to use with phone answering machine software program, "Call Station" (awesome computer software, for ฮ, btw). It answers, gives out my outgoing message, records caller message, but is not choosing up Caller ID at this point. I'm fairly ignorant about driver problems, asking yourself if there would be an alternate driver than the 1 provided on the disk that may possibly enable the caller ID function. Offered driver doesn't appear to enable caller ID, for me. Incoming message has some background static on it, which previous modem did not generate. Any ideas about how to get the caller ID function to operate would be appreciated. Is this function operating for any person else????

Everything - does exactly what it suppose to...performs with Windows Fax, Caller-ID app, Dial-up, and Phonetools. I have had no issues in the 8 months I have owned it. None Those who are getting issues may well require to take a appear at other places, like Vista 64 bit drivers on the Rosewill Web site. I ran this beneath Windows Vista 32 bit, 64 bit, and Windows 7 64 bit. Did not even need to have to load drivers in Windows 7 - they had been already set to go.

Decent price - but so what if it doesn't work? Caller ID doesn't function on this modem. Following directions on Rosewill's net web-site, I utilized hyperterminal to set parameters directly to the COM port on the modem. at+vcidɣ returns OK, but nonetheless no caller ID info. I tried it on two various systems and with at least two diverse drivers. I've wasted hours and hours on this point. Also message recording volume is really low...pretty much unusable as an answering machine. If you want caller ID, appear for a distinct modem. This 1 won't do it. No thought if data stuff functions or not, didn't need to have that.

Slackware, Debian, Ubuntu, and Mandriva Linux kernels recognize this modem without having any issues. Hylafax sees this modem as a variety 1 and 1. (V.34 capability) modem. I only use these modems for fax purposes and don't know how well they are for information connections. None that I'm conscious of. Slackware, Debian, Ubuntu, and Mandriva Linux kernels recognize this modem with out any difficulties. I am using these little puppies with Hylafax for standalone fax servers at numerous customer's internet sites. So far, I am up to 4 lines without having any problems.

Installs with just any modern day OS (Vista, XP, 32 bit, 64 bit)Great for laptops (most don't come with modems any longer) Hey, it's nonetheless a dongle modem. Takes up desk real estate.Wouldn't install by way of Vista 64 "Found New Hardware" install. But, had no issue installing with provided CD setup. If you will need a dial-up, USB modem, there is no reason to overlook this 1. We have sold it in our store for about a year now and it is 1 of our very best sellers.

Rosewill RNX-56USB V.92/56K USB Hardware Based Data/Fax/TAM Modem
Comment:
It functions fine as a data modem. Do not order this for use with Caller-ID. Especially, I ordered this modem to use with the 7MC VistaCallerID app to display incoming Caller-ID on screen in Media Center. Even though the original hardware revision revision of this modem DID support Caller-ID the current version is incapable of receiving Caller-ID information IN HARDWARE. The firmware itself still accepts the AT+VCIDɣ command properly and even reports that it is still able to obtain Caller-ID, but the present hardware revision Can not decode the incoming information from the telephone line. So, do NOT order this modem for Caller-ID usage, it will NOT perform. It does work fine as a basic fax/data modem even though. If seeking for a external USB Caller-ID modem, the Hiro H50113 (Agere chipset) is 1 of the handful of that DO appear to work adequately for Caller-ID. I just purchased one particular and it functions fine (and consists of drivers for each Win 7 x64 and x86).For me a USB modem was the only option (I had no slots left).

Simple installation on XPRapidly solid sign on and connectionExcellent solid throughput for the log on speedI'm just making use of this as a straight forward modem so can't comment on the other features such as fax or voice Slightly beneath typical speed (yes I have the most current drivers) I have 6 modems in use and a box complete of junk modems (yes I reside in dial up hell, but hopefully not for a lot longer), the speed you get depends to a huge part on your distance from the exchange and the condition of the telephone lines. 5 of my modems connect at among 26 & 28K with the occasional connection at 33K, this modem has only connected at 28K as soon as hence the slightly below average rating. My remaining modem connects at 38-40K 80% of the time (checked with on the internet tests), if it logs on at a slow speed reconnecting typically fixes it. Interestingly its the built in modem in a inexpensive laptop, buying an high priced modem doesn't necessarily guarantee superior results. This modem really should be excellent for what I brought it for, some thing that is effortless to move about and offers a solid connection, obtaining a truly fantastic modem appears to be mainly a matter of luck.

Great hardware repair with uncomplicated to set up drivers. Simple fax / telephone dialing software program included. None actually. Becoming in a position to hear the dial-tone when dialing would be helpful.(but that may possibly be my personal computer not the modem, not sure). Modem only has connection space for line in/line out and not an extra connection space for a telephone as in the older style internal dialup modems.Required to get a dialup modem to perform soon after XP Service Packs (I suspect) produced it impossible to use any of the three formerly working internal modems I attempted.Uncomplicated and speedy setup with drivers on CD. (I am making use of Win XP).Fantastic answer to what had been an particularly frustrating and baffling Windows driver/hardware concern.

This was semi valuable for debugging a com port connection. I have wasted hours trying to get this factor to recognize CIDs. When you send the modem a command telling it to listen for Caller IDs, you get the "OK" response, meaning it recognizes this as a supported command. (AT+VCIDɣ if I bear in mind properly) When it receives a call on a line with Caller ID, you simply get the incoming RING responses. This does not function as advertised. Just since they return "OK" rather of "ERROR" doesn't mean that the Caller ID functions. I have no notion if this functions nicely as a mainstream modem. I just wanted it to handle incoming calls.

Gives dialup and fax access to any computer without a built-in modem None thus far I should say I expected a lot of grief setting this up given that as we know few installs go genuinely smooth. I was quite pleased with how uncomplicated this installed and setup. I installed to an Acer Aspire netbook that has no modem as are times I am in places with no wireless or high speed access (yes they nonetheless exist lol).I had to copy the drivers from the CD to a pen drive as the Aspire does not have a built-in CD drive either. The driver folders are quite clearly identified for what version of windows (even if they are for the 32 or 64 bit version) they are for so was easy to grab to the pen drive. As opposed to most USB devices needing installed drivers you ought to have this modem plugged into the USB port just before installing drivers as when the setup begins (at least running setup directly from the driver folder and not the CD autorun menu) it wants to discover the modem is connected to the USB or it will not install.XP instantly recognized and configured and was prepared to goWell worth the cash.

This device was automobile-detected by Windows 7 x64 and sent a fax inside two minutes of my opening the box. I had no will need of a manual...the supplied Win7 Fax and Scan did everything. NB: some versions of Win7 do not assistance faxing natively (ie. with out additional software), my House Premium did. None that I can come across.
