Very good price per GB. I bought two of these and built a RAID-1 array out of them. Six weeks later, 1 of them is throwing Intelligent errors. Samsung issued an RMA with no a lot hassle, but now I have to waste time wiping the drive as best I can and shipping it at my own expense in order to get a refurbished replacement. Meanwhile, I have to either buy a new drive or let my RAID-1 sit degraded for a month, which obviously defeats the entire purpose of mirroring.

it's a excellent value for a drive this size and speed, if it worksI was a Samsung HDD follower till recently. it's defective. Samsung DM couldn't full the format. Samsung ESTool diags revealed the drive has CRC erros.I didn't know newegg doesn't cover return shipping for defective items, had I recognized, I would purchase from one more location. how can a customer be satisfied when he/she received a defective merchandise, and still have to spend out of own pocket to ship it back?newegg doesn't care about client satisfactions anymore?receiving too large?

1. Big Capacitytwo. Cool Temperaturethree. Quite Quiet4. Very very good transfer rates5. 3 Year Warranty and simple processing really should you ever will need to use the warranty approach.six. Utilizes much less power than many other tough drives.7. Samsung makes some of the best high quality challenging drives on the industry. I've been acquiring them for about ten years now and by no means regretted a single invest in. This is not a high speed drive. Not really a Con but to some folks it could be so they ought to look for a different drive. This drive is not a "NAS rated" drive. It works fine for a slower property NAS, just not for heavy corporation use. This quiet and cool operating drive is best for a home NAS application or if you just wanted to replace your present difficult drive with a thing that doesn't sound like a jet engine, or perhaps add an aditional storage drive to your computer system.Just some friendly suggestions: Never ever use a hard drive as your final backup device, they all can and will eventually fail. You ought to backup your critical information to CD/DVD media periodically.

Good value. The firmware ƑAG01118 ) that comes with this drive is defective. Once you run ESTool (Samsung's tough drive scan) it will return an error code AJ41-Ram Error. This will avoid your computer from coming out of sleep/suspend. I spoke with various technical support individuals at Samsung and their response was to downgrad the firmware (firmware is not obtainable on their website), submit service request on Samsung support web-site (tech support state website is not working correctly), and lastly spoke with their difficult drive tech support group and was told that there was no problem with the challenging drive but there is one thing wrong with ESTool. I get the feeling Samsung desires to ignore the problem. I truly wanted this difficult drive to workout considering that Samsung has a reputation for great challenging drives, was the great size for my HP mediasmart, lower power consumption and only three platters vs 4 platters. I am going to have to take a appear at the Hitachi drives since I had drive failures with Seagate and Western Digital.

Owned this drive for about 8 months now. I have it in a Rosewill USB three. enclosure and it performed fantastic for the past several months (transfer rates vary according to file size but commonly got 50-70+ MBs). Not certain what happened in the past 24 hours but the drive now makes a loud clicking noise when powered on... YIKES! Even although Win7 finds the drive, its taking alot longer, so I can only assume this drive is going to die very soon.Mind you, this drive is external and has been employed solely as a third backup drive (backup to a backup bc I'm parnaoid about property pics/videos of youngsters) and it has seriously only been turned on much less than 20-30 times more than the past 8 months. Extremely dissapointing! I'll RMA but i'll sell it. I currenly own 4 WD drives of various capacities. They're still operating and older than 8 months! Longevity? Integrity? It didn't last at least 12 months... Samsung has excellent evaluations, but I'm skeptical. The drive was not handled improperly or dropped bc it was sitting on the floor in the stand all day. Just began to make strange noises from 1 day to the subsequent...

Great cost, Rapid specially for a 5400rpm drive, it tests faster than my other three internal SATA drives which are all 7200rpm, Runs cooler than the rest of my drives as well according to hd tune's temp readings. None I've only had this drive for a small more than 1 month and its my initial Samsung drive, Hopefully it proves dependable. So far no complications.I have two front intake fans installed in my case which blow air over all four of my HDs, it appears to support reliability in the long run as ive had really excellent luck with HDs.

Significant storage space. Writing this review simply because I was helped by other reviews in the past. This harddrive was making horrible noises inside. Sounded like someone was scratches one thing. I wanted to maintain it but It became very annoying. In addition, I was afraid some thing was about to break in it. So I did a RMA proper away. Extremely cheap but you get what you pay reform.DONT Get IT. Immediately after return I purchased a 1.5tb WD black. Had no difficulties with that so far.

lost of storage space at a superior price. some motherboards don't like it. do your research just before purchasing this. some motherboards will accept only up to 1tb without having a bios flash. this drive is replacing a dead one for a media center pc utilizing a mini-itx atom board from gigabyte. ahead of flashing the bios the board would repeatedly either report the ata link is taking to respond(doing a hard reset) or would drop the drive with a cylinder head sector error soon after getting mounted for a short whilst or transferring some information too it. this may well make it look like your external esata enclosure, sata port on the motherboard, or the drive it's self is going. so just before even trying this drive make sure your motherboards bios is up to date.

Inexpensive for 1.5tb drive, quiet. Installed it into a new i7 system, applied it for 4 months when it suddenly died with no warning, parameter errors. It took a lot of files with it. A excellent example as to why you need to often back up crucial files, to which I neglected to do. Samsung appears to be willing to RMA it, but it still is going to expense me to ship it. Ive had Maxtor and Western Digital HDD's, and they have generally covered S/H if there was a problem inside warrenty. In that time I've had just a few go poor with each of these manufacturers, Maxtor even shipped me a replacement drive before I shipped the bad 1 back to them, now that was service! From what I have read about related complications from other users, if I get a replacement drive from Samsung I will just end up using it as a secondary drive now and back even that up! Im not impressed with Samsung and their HDD's. I do love their monitors, they might want to just stick with creating them.

works. size/price superbnot DOA or clicking. none really so far. It has been a though due to the fact I bought a bare drive, so I do not know if this is a fault with the drive or me :), but it didn't come with a partition table or something so I had to fire up an ubuntu live disk to develop and then format. Other users may locate themselves acquiring software or the like to get it going. so maintain that in mind. I'll post one more review if I ever have trouble.

I now have two of these drives, both of which I have managed to fill up in short order. These are my quietest and coolest operating drives (other than my SSD, of course). They are cool to the touch when operating, and HD Tune reports temps of 25C. Decent speed for a bulk storage drive. None Just bought a two TB Samsung due to my pleasant experience with these drives.

The idea of trading slower speed and a cooler drive for longevity seems appealing as so many significant capacity drives now appear to fail prematuely. It was quiet and cool. The idea hasn't worked out in practice. However the initially, of two drives, I bought disappeared from Windows Explorer a couple of times but was "found" again on rebooting; then I got drive failing error messages from Windows. It seems tough to discover any big drive that fulfills the require for lengthy term Secure storage. Samsung's disk utility doesn't even function with this drive. WD's does but after initially indicating it necessary 3 hours for the advanced test is now showing 12 hours are necessary and will likely by no means complete the full test. The drive has a three year warrantee but how a lot faith can 1 spot in the safety of one's video and jpg files? I am now going to try an Enterprise drive, as price isn't actually that important (I paid 轛 for my very first 10 meg HD drive and 踰 for my very first 400 meg HD drive and even futher back: 踰 for a 1541 floppy drive for a C64 but they all lasted). Savings are fantastic but not at the price of loss of data.

7200 RPM, A lot of storage. The HDD runs cool. ྵ C) It's incredibly quiet. It wasn't no cost. :) It is one the finest offers you can get for a huge capacity HDD. It's safe to run as a system drive, but I would recommend a faster higher excellent unit for that purpose. This is wonderful for anybody with a limited spending budget.Don't anticipate it to have a total of 1.five TB. Windows formatting often takes a smaller portion of the capacity.

Great cost-per-TB. I use 3 comparable Samsung drives with no issues. Power-saving and cool drive essential for my HTPC. Reliability is much more critical than speed for my wants. Rapidly shipping and responsive RMA service. Click-of-Death perfect out of the box. Ran Samsung utility: several sector and drive errors. RMA'd for refund. Initial drive to be DOA in 5 years of ordering HDD's from Newegg. Two-egg rating aspects in zero for DOA drive and 4 for fantastic Newegg service.

Got this for my Media Server and humming along 24ǝ for 4 months now. None - Due to the fact I know what to use these drives for. Just wanted to put my two cents worth in on the complaints about these bigger capacity drives that are "Green". They are ideal for storage and not main OS drives, thats why they are 1-2tb. Who needs a 1.5tb primary drive? If you want a HDD for an OS (Server or PC) get a quickly SATAII or SSD and you will get the snappy performance you so desire. Use these drives for storage, even in a RAID setup they function Fantastic!

Low Price, High Capacity Particularly high likelihood of failure. I'm two for two on drives that died inside months of installing them in a media center PC. The first time it was within the RMA period, but the second time was four months, just outside the RMA period. The drives were installed properly in a well-cooled system, and slowly filled up to about 70% data capacity. The 1st 1 died with NO WARNING WHATSOEVER, and took a fairly extensive media collection down with it. This 1, I at least got S.M.A.R.T. notification from Windows that the drive was going poor. It remains to be observed if something can be salvaged from it. Bottom line: Don't put something you care about on these.

- Packaged really well from Newegg regardless of comments in other critiques- Low cost - 1 of four drives failed Samsung's disk scan out of the box- Hope the failure is not indicative of other problems in the future- Low-cost I bought 4 of these drives for a RAID configuration in a Synology DS410 network attached storage device. Sadly, one of the drives failed out of the box -- failed disk scan and failed low level format. Sent back to Newegg to RMA and currently awaiting replacement drive.

Bought two of these to go into a Raidon twin drive. Set-up as RAID1 and appear to be working perfectly. No issues so far and they are quiet and cool running. Not super rapidly, but I use the drives strictly for storing pictures and documents so they're specifically what I was looking for. None so far. Got tired of the hot and noisy WD and Seagate drives and decided to give Samsung drives a try. Reviews were ideal for the 1tb drive, but for บ I gained a different 500gb of storage.
